Thank you to everyone who’s sent asks this week checking up on me, even though I haven’t been active on tumblr in 84 years. I’m okay, my family is okay, we’re all safe and well.
For those of you who don’t know, I live in Minneapolis. This week has been... a lot. Emotions have been all over the place. There’s been heartbreak and rage, but I fully support the protesters.
I’m white so my opinion on everything to do with these events is tainted by my position of privilege, but for what it’s worth, as someone watching their home city literally burn around them, this feels like it’s been a long time coming.
Michael Brown was murdered by police in 2014. George Floyd was murdered by police on Monday. Nothing has changed in six years. Nothing much has really changed in 60 years. We continue to fail, as a society, to protect those who need us. These protests are justified. The riots are not surprising. If this is what revolution looks like, we deserve everything that’s coming.
Stay strong and stay safe, everybody. If you’re protesting, please be careful and protect yourself.
