VIDEO- Making Mechanics
Please take a moment to check out this project I'm invloved with on KickStarter
'NY-based Fashion and backstage photographer Eli Schmidt (His backstage work has been featured most recently in T Magazine, the New York Times Style Magazine) followed legendary choreographer Karole Armitage (Madonna's "Vogue," plus ballets for Baryshnikov, Cirque du Soliel, Broadway, and the Bolshoi aren't bad) as she created her world premiere "Mechanics of the Dance Machine." The rehearsals took place at MANA Contemporary, where Armitage Gone! Dance is in residence, culminating in a two-week season at New York Live Arts. "Making Mechanics" will be a short (approximately 15 minute) documentary about the process, and will include an interview with Karole as she looks back over her 30 year career as an leading international contemporary artist.
The project seeks funds to do the final editing for the film, as well as the rights to use the beautiful score by London-based composer Gabriel Prokofiev (yes, he is the grandson of Sergei) which Karole used in the ballet. The film also showcases the unique and dynamic light design by Clifton Taylor. This film will be unique as it shows Karole's process as a choreographer, showcasing both the intensity and the vulnerability of her dance-making process. The project will also include the printing of 10 images as part of a showing with the film, which were all taken during the creative process as well.
Supporters who contribute $100 or more will recieve an 11x14archival print of one of the photos to be featured in the gallery show. '
