âSometimes your boss is an asshole, a slave driver. Sometimes they just want to be your best friend and give you everything you need to do your job. Other times... other times your boss is Jeremy Blaire. And all youâre job is, is to survive.â
This is a wonderful piece of art I was lucky to procure from @eroticlava of a scenario written between myself and my wife, who played Blaire. Unfortunately that was almost two years ago. Oh well, yâall still get to enjoy this amazing piece with me.

McCree tried not to watch the womanâs ailment with too much curiosity. He didnât want to seemâŚwell, too rude. He was a rude child, but MauraâŚshe had a certain patience about her that was different from most people. A good part of it might have been simply because of her profession, but he wasnât about to write her off for doing her job. Instead, he waited patiently, though he still fidgeted like the wild thing that he was, grinning when she was ready.
âYeah, you let me know when they come up with a machine like that. Iâm gonna use my pay from this gig and buy eight of âem.â He winked one charming eye, flashed a bit more of his teeth, and chuckled. Now that they were on the move, and not trapped in an offfice, his body language became that much more genuine. His thumbs hooked into his belt loops, and he stayed by Ainsleyâs side, matching her pace, and beaming the whole while. This was a good idea, he decided.Â
Hopefully so was joining Blackwatch.
He blinked a couple of times at the request, but nodded, and launched himself back into the tale of that particular train heist, the one that set the ball into motion for him to get caught, and his gang disbanded, and that was when Overwatch had snatched him out of prison to offer him the deal of his life. Heâd been taken in, biting and scratching and shouting obscenities.
And here he was.
Who was looking down on him and guiding him through it all? He didnât rightly know. But he wasnât going to be the fool that looks a gift horse in the mouth. Nah, he was going to hop up on that baby and ride off into the sunset. And Maura was his ticket in.
Was he staring, or was he trying not to? He clearly noticed her decreased mobility, the slow, limping gate at which she now had to stumble around with. Most of the uglier reminders were hidden beneath the billowing legs of her trousers, or the long sleeves of blouses. A few scars and patches of discolored skin showed above the neckline of her shirts and ruffled tops, small things she could pass off as childhood injuries, but that was it. âYou buy one of those, and have it delivered to my office, then weâll talk.â Yes, because that was what she needed; a beacon of light framing her old habit for alcoholism, a brilliant reminder of the crutch she once had to lean on for sanityâs sake. On second thoughtâŚ
The change in Jesseâs posture was immediate. The minute the sun touched his already sun kissed skin, Jesse McCree was unwinding and relaxing into a far more natural state. She could already tell he was going to be a good fit for Overwatch. For all intents and purposes, Jesse McCree was just a wild child who needed the right outlets, the right set of hands to guide him down the correct path. His patience with her slow, uneven gate, his reluctance to stare, and the courtesy to keep pace with her, were all simple actions that meant a great deal more than he was probably aware of.
Maura listened to McCreeâs story, watched his hands, his expressions, as he recounted the tale of how he came to be here rather than in a jail cell. The boy certainly had a way with words and a natural talent for story-telling, which made her wonder how much of what he was telling her was true and how much was exaggerated. Ainsley guessed it to be at least fifty/fifty.
âThank you for the story, Jesse. I think I have all I need now.â Maura stopped and leaned heavily on the cane, most of her weight distributed to the one good leg she had left. âIâll send my notes and my recommendation to Reyes and Commander Morrison in the morning,â Her heart fluttered for a second, skipped a beat, as she considered the ramifications her recommendation would have on the young manâs future. For once in her life, Maura hoped that she was doing the right thing; and for the right reasons.
Donât let me regret this.
He laughed a little at the sight of the woman wielding a gun with such proficiency. He shouldâve known better than to think anyone employed by Overwatch wouldnât have weapons training. It brightened his demeanor though, to know she could take care of herself. Jesse watched her, his own pistol held at the ready. âIâm pretty sure this ainât no drillââ As he spoke, the power flickered outâŚand the emergency lights came on, glaring red as McCree glanced upward. He edged over toward Ainsley, and guided her out the door. â âSidesâif they were fucking, they wouldâve probably placed me on guard so they didnât get bothered none.â He grinned that boyish, half-askew grin of his. ââŚGonna have to disobey that order, Miss Maura. Iâm gettinâ you somewhere safe come hell or high water.â
Ainsley was thrilled that her ability to properly wield a weapon pleased Jesse so much, and she mentioned as much. âBasic weapon training was a requirement for working here. Due to⌠past events, I took it upon myself to get the training before ever considering this position.â And it was a good thing she had. The heft of the Beretta in her hands made her feel ten times safer, even if she had never needed to use it⌠And then the lights flickered off. Back-up generators kicked in and the red emergency lights cast an eerie red glow over the darkened office and the halls beyond. âJesseâŚâ But he was there, heavy hand on her arm, gently guiding her out into the hallway. The building shook again and Maura felt a surge of panic as flashbacks flickered in and out of focus. âThatâs Dr. Ainsley to you. Now get me out of here.â Donât panic. Donât panicâŚ!

@schrodingersinkblots liked a post for a short starter
He charged down the hallway full speedâthere had been an invasion by terrorists. And he had to be sure a certain someone was safe. âMaura!â He cried the name as he hurried into her office, his Peacekeeper drawn and at the ready. âMaura, thereâs been an attack. Thereâsââ An explosion rocked the building, and he held out his hand. ââŚâthereâs no time, I gotta get you to shelter! Câmon!!â
The lithe woman had a gun pointed at the door, finger resting flush with the trigger, waiting for whatever enemy might try and rush her while she hobbled to safety. The thing was a relic, an M9 beretta, hammer cocked and round in the chamber. âJesse!â Oh thank God! Ainsley disengaged her weapon, flipped the safety and stuffed it down the back of her trousers. âAre you sure itâs an attack and not just Morrison and Reyes having⌠Relations?â It was a fair assumption in her opinion. Quickly, she took the cowboyâs hand, but not before grabbing her trusty cane. âIâll move as fast as I can. But, Jesse⌠If Iâm holding you back, you will leave me behind.â
He clearly perked up when the offer was made. A walk? A walk would be nice. It would help him cease in his fidgeting and wriggling. Striding along on his own two feet always granted Jesse a reprieve from the difficult task of sitting still in a world that seemed to constantly rush about him. He preferred to meet its pace rather than watching the action from the sidelines.
Rather gladly, he hopped up by the grace of her proffered hand, and straightened out his shirt just a little bit. âYeah, a walkâll do just fine. A walkâll do me well.â He gave a succinct nod, almost ready to drag the woman out the door when she gave him a chance at freedom. After all, McCree was not used to being put on a leash or bridled; rather he maintained his freedom was a vital part of his person and shouldnât be wholly compromised. Being in Blackwatch was a big step up compared to prison under those conditions.
âDrinks? Do I get somethinâ hard for my troubles? I like whiskey.â One dark eye winked at the psychiatrist. That was almost certainly going to be a negative, as he was too young to drink. It was always worth a try.
Once out of the office, he seemed to slip into an entirely different posture. Everything that was Jesse McCree relaxed and fell into stride next to the much-shorter woman. Yes, this was better. Itâd be easier to breathe.
His enthusiasm was almost contagious, enough so that it put a small smile on the doctorâs warn features. Maura wasnât a spring chicken anymore, but she also wasnât old enough to be considered old. Still, with her past history, coupled with advancing age, Ainsley was less capable of getting around than she had been used to back in her prime. As Jesse stood up and straightened himself out, Maura grabbed a cane from behind the door, and leaned heavily upon it. Once the young renegade was ready to go, the door was opened, releasing the tornado of youthful energy upon the medical wing. Thankfully, her office was on the ground floor, and adjacent to the nearest exit, which in turn led out to a garden path. Ainsley limped along, watching McCree as he rushed to meet the flow of time again, as he relaxed and unfolded from the discomfort of sitting in a confined office. âWhisky? Yeah, sure. You want ice with that?â Her tone was light, sarcastic as she handed Jesse a can of cola. He was easily twice her height, but a cane to the knees did wonders for shortening folks too big for their britches. âBesides, as far as I know, they donât have Jack Danielâs vending machines here.â What a world it would be if they decided to make one though. âNow that weâre out of that stuffy office, letâs try things again. Is that okay with you?â With a change of scenery, Maura was hoping that Jesseâs answers would be more natural, that whatever the answer was, it would be the first thing that came to mind, the first words that came to his lips, rather than a rehearsed answer he thought she wanted to hear. Besides that, the air was good for her lungs, her mood, and the walk was good for her stiff, damaged muscles.
