“H-hewwo?” (maxed-out-again) (aaaa I’ve missed you!)
“Oh my god, Max? Max?”
“Yea it’s me asshole”
“I haven’t seen you since last summer, why the fuck didn’t you call me back?”
“I…”
Max tried to find some sort of excuse, but came up empty handed. How could he tell neil that his dad broke his phone?
“I lost my phone.”
Ehh.
“…really?” Neil wanted to believe him, he really did, but something about how his lack of eye contact didn’t fully convince him.
“Yes.”
Max cringed. Well a lie is better than a truth that would worry neil, he didn’t feel like doing that.
Neil only shuts his mouth, still wildly suspicious of Max.
“No really, I lost my phone. But it doesn’t matter since we’re here right?”
“I…guess. I missed you a lot.” Neil sighs.
“I missed you too.”
“Yeah Yeah Asshole, whats the plan now?”
“Can’t we just talk? For once?” He shrugs. “I just..I want to know how you’ve been.”
“I’ve been fine. Stuck at home with mr and Mrs shitbags, but I thought I should sneak out to see you Tesla.”
“How sweet,” He laughs a little.
Max, for only a second felt his mind stutter. Fuck he missed Neil’s laugh. As stupid as it sounds he missed neil. Not that he would ever admit it.
“You and only you. Oh, I almost forgot, how are you then?”
“Alright. Had to spend most of my summer with my dad, though, my mom was super busy.”
“That must’ve sucked.”
“Ugh, yeah. But I guess it wasn’t all that bad.”
“Obviously, I get to see you all the time now.”
Max falls back on Neil’s bed, taking a moment to stare up at the ceiling before rolling over. He had a sly smirk again. Stupid.
“So what now? You have any games or did they dry up?”
“How the fuck could they dry up?” Neil laughs again. If it were anyone other than Max, he’d have been annoyed by such a dumb question. But it was Max.
“You know what I mean. Even your dad buys you the shit games you still have some.”
Max rolled over again so Neil had some room, and just pulls him down. He missed his best friend, he’ll say it.
Neil lets Max pull him, plopping down onto the bed with a plop. His legs dangled a bit over the edge of the bed. “I mean, I have a few games on my DS, and some for xBox.”
“Mm. Maybe later.”
Max shrugs and falls back on the bed, right up against Neil. He doesn’t really notice or mind, just staring up at the ceiling.
“You seem distracted.”
“You’re distracting.”
“Oh really?”
Max moved up, grinning some as he leaned in a little too close. But he’s fine.
“Can’t believe I distract fucking hawking.”
Neil shoots him a mock glare before it melts back into a smile. “Don’t be so humble. You know you’re a damn good distraction.”
“Ask Nikki. She’s one of the best there is.”
Max fell back.
“So any secrets? Anything new that you didn’t tell me?”
“Shit, I don’t know.”
“Hm.”
Max thinks for a second.
“Any crushes?”
He couldn’t help the shit eating grin.
“What are we, teenage girls?” Neil smirks. “But yeah, of course.”
“Care to tell?”
“Never,”
“Aw. Pleeeeease?”
“I’ve never heard you beg before. I kind of like it.”
Max was shocked at that, a blush forming at his cheeks before he pushed the thought away, pouting slightly now.
“You’re not answering the question asshole.”
Well, duh. Neil was avoiding the question. “Take a guess,”
