OOOOOGH I LIKE THIS ONE
So. My favourite game is Chants of Sennaar. Slight spoilers for the ending incoming. I could go on for hours about how beautiful the storytelling and symbolism and languages and world and characters and graphics are and how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chants of Sennaar.
I’ve played through the entire mostly non-replayable puzzle game 3 times, and I’ve only ever gotten the perfect ending because I can’t bear to leave that world unconnected.
The ending absolutely crushes me every time. Having the symbol of the connections between peoples morph into the glyph for each culture’s most treasured concept—God for the devotees, duty for the warriors, beauty for the bards, transformation for the alchemists, exile for the anchorites—is just such a perfect representation of how different values can appear as rotated versions of each other, and at their root, they are all based on humanity. I find that fitting, given that the antagonist is a robot seeking to isolate the people of the tower.
It reminds me of the current day relationships with artificial intelligence (specifically LLMs. Let’s not conflate ChatGPT with life-saving innovations in technology) and how it seems that people are forgetting how to connect.
It’s important today in the real world just as it is for the people of the tower in Chants of Sennaar: we have to help each other. We have to learn about each other. We have to love each other.

and when i accidently cut a vein and i am bleeding out on my bedroom floor, maybe i will feel a miraculous change and suddenly realise that i want to live, that i don't want to hurt myself or wallow in my own sorrow, and that i still want to experience so many things in life. i still want to watch movies at my local cinema and i still want to go for walks through malls with my friends, and i still want to eat at that restaurant my friend recommended, and i still want to go to prom and i still want to see my friends grow old with me.
i just want to be happy. i just want to be with my friends. i don't want life to separate us.
Maybe when that car finally hits me I'll realize that oh I actually DO care whether I live or die or whether I feel pain in the moment and I'll finally stop feeling like it wouldn't even matter in the grand scheme of things. No one would even consider it suicide because it isn't. It isn't 'willingly get hit by car' it's 'dont care if I die from it' and maybe that feeling will change.
Maybe when I finally swallow the pills, I'll realize I want to live. But maybe when I get resuscitated I'll realize I don't. We always want what we don't have. The peace of death, the joy of life, while becoming blind to the emptiness and pain that will follow no matter where we go. Either way, I'll still have that bottle of pills in the medicine cupboard and the knife hidden in my bedframe. Maybe I'll use them, maybe I won't. No matter what I do I'll regret it, but maybe it's better to die with regrets that survive with the threat of my own mind.
Maybe when I’m gone, I’ll think of what I’ve left behind. And maybe I’ll notice how much less laughter rings out from the halls and the classrooms, maybe I’ll notice how my friends’ eyes are a little weary, maybe I’ll notice how the strangers who I made smile wonder why I disappeared. Maybe by the time I realize how valued I am, it will be too late. I do everything in my power to help other people learn this very same lesson. And maybe it will never be enough.
I know it now, logically, but not emotionally. That disconnect might be my downfall. That disconnect might save me. Why can’t it be both?

One:
This is his chance to rewrite the perspective of him. A new place, a new page, a new set of introductions and first impressions that will cement his truth. Perhaps the undying magic that weaves his growth will loop his strings over in the direction he so desperately longs for in his every waking moment.
And two:
However mindlessly he knows this young woman must have decided who to give what piece to—no thought to it at all, likely—it still feels like somewhat of a personal offense on the universe’s part. Why must it draw him forward in this struggle?

Ro suddenly understood every romance novel he(?)’d ever read and he hated it.
Life was already complicated enough, what with all the ‘I don’t feel right in my own body’ and the ‘I feel vaguely alone for some reason because my brain is a dumbass’ and all the other problems that came with being human.
Being human was overrated.
Also he hadn’t been able to get good sleep in what, a year? Ever since he’d left- that team.
But that was. Besides the point.
Life was annoying, and now was a bad time to be experiencing Emotions™.

Epic transition
He is sitting, alone, in an infinite field of flowers.
All around him, they bloom like in a timelapse, but he knows that time isn’t passing. (Everything that is now has always been, yet never will be.)
The sun shines down hot on his face; a warm wind flows around him. He is offered no comfort by the heat. It reaches his body, but not his mind. (Here, they are one and the same. But he is unaware.)
He watches the flowers grow as they sway in the wind, bright colours extending out in every direction. He can’t see the ground beneath them. (It doesn’t exist.)
They keep growing, then shrink and die, then rise again; (This eternity, this loop,) it won’t end. That’s certain.
But not possible.
This cannot be real. He recognizes this, even in his delirious state.
Besides, he knows well enough that orchids wouldn’t thrive in these otherwise idyllic conditions.
Despite his understanding, the illusion does not break. It simply fades, after time, and he drifts into a permanent unconsciousness. (A blessing, a void.)

It’s really easy for me to find snippets without dialogue because there’s only like.. one chapter (out of eleven) in orchid that has any dialogue.

Today we’re talking about the connections between the symbolism in the entirety of orchid to Chapter 10 of YOU’RE KILLING IT! Yay
1. Obvious one of the paralleled dynamics between the siblings. They are at different stages of “drifting apart”, and our dear audience can only hope that they get a chance to go in a different direction from Flyte who dies and Flutter who ambiguously does or doesn’t also die.
2. Soup.
3. Scraps disliking water is meant to remind our dear audience about Flutter disliking snow.
4. “Uncertain” is reminiscent of the reoccurring line of “Not certain, but possible” in orchid (referring to whatever the toons believe in). Sprout showing he cares about Scraps’ (and Goob’s) wellbeing is contrasted with that symbolism. It’s also followed by Scraps projecting uncertainty as an undesirable trait onto herself.
5. Sprout specifically describing Goob as sick is meant to relate to how Flutter sees a sickness in some toons (most importantly, Flyte, and also Gigi) that are questioning their mortality. And subsequently are able to die.
There are more little ones that I put in and then forgot about probably. I love talking about the brain creatures!!!!!!!!
