Closer comic!

Summary: Nico and Jae-Soo are coworkers who also happen to be roommates. While they’ve had their ups and downs, they usually get on really well despite Nico’s grumpy nature clashing with Jae-Soo’s cheerful one. This changes when Jae-Soo suddenly becomes more withdrawn and sullen, however.

Missing their friend, Nico tries to be less grumpy towards Jae-Soo but this only seems to make him drift further away. Now after professing a lack of interest in dating anyone for months, Jae-Soo is suddenly going on a date. What’s Nico to do when this awakens a kind of jealousy in them that they didn’t figure they could feel?

Long time no see regarding these comics!

I went on hiatus from this comic last year as I became burnt out on it. What started as something to keep me in a routine during lockdown took over my creative life for 4 years. I was pretty miserable about it in my personal life, too.

On reflection I'm not sure if or when I can face coming back to the way I was making pages, but I didn't want to leave Rib part 4 totally unfinished either. I still love these characters and think of them often obviously, even if I'm not drawing them! It's not their fault the project wasn't sustainable after returning to face to face work.

As a compromise with myself I've brought together my rough draft of the final 23 pages of Rib. There was at least one more comic in the very early stages of planning about J's backstory that never got off the ground but who knows? Maybe I'll come back to this with the energy and enthusiasm it deserves someday.

Thank you all for being with me for this project. This hopefully isn't farewell but just a see you later!

Gale and the orb!

This one was very challenging to work on as the lighting and colouring were so different to what I usually do! I had to resort to a lot of zooming in/eyedropping/measuring/etc.

Some recent silly billy OC content of my positively nihilistic Bhaalspawn bard Lugh x my timid giant cleric of Eilistraee, Ilphyl.

With their powers combined they make one (1) emotionally regulated person.

The age thing is difficult because of DnD/elf shenanigans but physically they're in their 20-30s. Also yes, Ilphyl is veeeeery tall for a drow. Their mother didn't call them a tree for nothing!

I made some little thumbnail sketches to illustrate different forms of love Eilistraee values that Ilphyl (and Lugh) embody;

Nor (dedication/passion to something or someone), immaea* (love/loyalty to family and kin), ssinssrig (longing), lurraggath (noble sacrifice), raggath/arkhlavae (lovemaking) and the act of deep and unselfish love (alurlssrin**.)

*those two ladies are some of the priestesses from Ilphyl's enclave who found them after they were attacked! They're Ilphyl's 'big sisters', so to speak.

** That's baby Ilphyl and their Mama. 🥺

Ilphyl (short hair) is a newly minted cleric of Eilistraee and Lugh (long hair) is a bard.

Did what was supposed to be a colour study today based on one of the more upsetting (potential) parts of Baldur's Gate 3.

I just love the lighting in that damn dungeon, though.

(I don't usually rely on a rule of thirds grid so heavily but I was nervous because I knew I was recording. 🤧)

The heartbroken bard Lugh goes on a quest to the North Ward in Waterdeep in search of a newly erected shrine to the Goddess Eilistraee. Despite having no love for the Gods, he intends to make a hefty request of her for the sake of a different love entirely.

(Aka: 'Give me my dead cleric back!')
