SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED 2004, dir. Raja Gosnell
Mystery Inc. but itās the 1890s
Who had late Victorian Scooby Doo on their 2024 bingo card? Hmm?
The idea came to me when I was thinking about Sherlock Holmes and then remembered the iconic mystery solving gang hehe
what could go wrong
Thereās an old Scooby Doo Promo where they recreate the iconic opening scene of the original Scream movie.
At the end of the promo itās revealed that shaggy is just prank calling Daphne, which is extra funny because Matthew Lillard played one of the killers in Scream (Stu Macher) as well as playing Shaggy in the live action Scooby Doo movies (and later voicing the character in animation)
The thing thatās absolutely wild is that this promo aired 5 years before Matthew Lillard was cast as Shaggy for the first time.
This is exactly the kind of meta humor that the Scream Franchise loved to play with, but it was a complete accident.
old-ish stuff from twt
Who's your favorite Scooby-Doo character, and why? ā”ļø
i hope this answers the question š she's obviously smart, but she can also be really funny and relatable depending on the iteration. modern writing has not done her any favors though. i wish they'd bring back some of her kookiness and quirkiness like how she was in WNSD, instead of making her into an extreme stick-in-the-mud skeptic just because she's supposed to be the brains.
saw an amazing thread on twitter about character development throughout the scooby doo franchise focused on how fred lacks character development, in contrast with the other characters
and something that really pisses me off were comments like ābro itās just a cartoonā āitās not that deepā
as if people canāt enjoy media through analysis and research, and cartoons are produced without a lot of depth from the creators
if you consume media without critical thinking thatās on you, honestly
I saw that thread, and I feel like it severely undermines Fredās conflict in Mystery Inc. Fred has no less development than the rest of the group, and Mystery Inc does a lot to add depth to him, more than any other show or movie has done for the other characters, imo. Thereās also Be Cool Scooby Doo and Camp Scare which go into Fredās character and his role as a leader.
Anyway, yeah itās annoying when people dismiss cartoon analysis. Not only should cartoons be treated with the same amount of respect as other mediums, itās also fun to overanalyze sometimes.
yeah i also disagree with the point of the thread about fred but i really liked the way OP constructed his argument
shaggy on monsters unleashed when scooby brings him clues but itās just a bunch of trash:
