Hey kids. Let's talk logistics.
One of the great things about Scootaleukemia when compared to my writing is that there's a sort of immediate gratification that doesn't exist over in the fanfiction world. Unlike finishing a ~15,000 word chapter of an unpublished basket of crud and letting it sit around in a folder to gather dust and weeds with its fellow crapsacks, finishing an update for Scootaleukemia is extremely satisfying. I can see the drawing come together, the panels fall into place, and watch as you goobers fall haplessly into my hooves so that I may place you over a pit of cobras and feels, with Summerset's d'awww-inducing shenanigans leaving you none the wiser. It's more fun to draw for me than it is to write. That's just the way it is.
The problem lies with time. For those who don't know, I'm not the healthiest Earthican of the bunch, and I'm constantly in and out of hospitals and doctor's offices, all the while trying to finish my last semester of high school. On top of that, I've got leadership obligations in an engineering group my brother started before he left for college, I have to struggle to keep up with school as well as make up all the work I'm missing for being out sick, I have to set aside time to plan for college, AND I've got one or possibly two surgeries coming up at an unspecified time, which means that at any given moment, a wrench will be thrown into my fragile schedule and send everything tumbling into oblivion.
But that's fine, right? Just the hectic schedule of being a teenager. Why not just stay up late to do updates like all the other tumblr artists?
Oh wait. I can't stay up late. I actually need sleep, and caffeine is not a luxury I can afford myself often due to the contents it is frequently packaged with and the effects of such magnificent marmalade on the already teetering state of my kidneys.
Anyone who's part of the Coop will tell you I've not been around as often lately. The thing is, between all the previous surgeries, the lack of anything resembling real food, the pain medicine, the schoolwork, the college work, and trying to manage it all in a drug-frazzled brain, I'm really, really tired. All the time. I need whatever precious hours of sleep I can get, lest I faceplant one day and don't wake up for 72 hours. Hay, just saying that sounds tempting. But I've got shit to do.
"But wait!" I hear you cry, "Why can you still update FiMFiction almost every night? I thought you said you didn't have time! Are you just being lazy?"
No, sir. Unlike Scootaleukemia, which requires me to have a long stretch of free time to sit down and update, writing goofy blog posts and garnering editors takes very little time, especially when I can do said things from my phone. While I enjoy drawing more, I'm far better at writing, though that's not really saying much. Hence, I spend more time on FiMFiction because I know I can at least provide something for my audience there, and I try to repost things on my tumblr mod blog when it makes sense to do so.
All in all, it's a vicious cycle. I know I'll never be able to do any updates for Scootaleukemia for a while because I don't have the time to sit in front of my computer and draw for hours on end. Despite what the more talented artists who can pump out an update every day for over a week would have you believe, drawing takes time. Especially when you suck at it like I do. Writing, on the other hand, is something that comes much more naturally to me, and I can sit down and pump out 3,000 words on my phone while riding in the car to go get gelled, poked and prodded a few times by tall guys with scrubs.
So I'm not dead. I'm just temporarily inconvenienced. If it's all the same to you, I guarantee that this whole situation is a lot more frustrating for me than you'd expect, as I've always wanted to be an internet personality, and when I finally get rolling the world decides to be a pain in the glutes.
Updates as events warrant. Thanks for understanding, you lovable Ponynet patrons.
