A Merry Sceada Advent - Day 14
@scootpatoot - đ Day 14: Watching the Northern Lights together
Hello there friend! I donât believe weâve met before - well, looks like this is a good opportunity to change that!
Sceada couldnât exactly claim to know many a Lalafell or having befriended them, with their numbers easily countable on one hand alone. Sure, there were Teledji and Tulala, the merchant even having gone on an expedition once together with him, and then there was also her Grace, the Sultana Nanamo Ulânamo with whom he had forged an unlikely friendship.
But beyond that? At most he could claim to have been acquainted with a Miss Tataru once, many years ago, but other than that, he did not know any Lalafell.
Well, perhaps he could change that today.
Scoot seemed to be a very lively sort, packing a surprisingly big amount of energy into such a small stature, and he was not one to stand down from a confrontation. Someone who would defend their friends and companions, no matter what.
A trait Sceada certainly found admirable.
He had taken the short-statured paladin out of town, leading him up a snowy hill a fair bit away from the admittedly not too bright lights of the settlement. He took care not to lead the Lalafell through any deep snow, silently fearing it could prove troublesome for them to wade through it. After all, if the snow managed to reach up to his hip, then it would be at face level for them.
Naturally, he could have offered to carry Scoot, eliminating the need for such precautions by using their height difference to an advantage, but he doubted a proud adventurer like him would appreciate such an offer, instead likely feeling insulted.
So, leading him through the shallow snow it was then, and heâd do his utmost to distract the man from noticing that by engaging into lively conversation.
Eventually, they would reach the top of the hill, an opening clearing with a marvelous view of the night sky. Sceada would place some blankets he had prepared out on the snow, giving them both a place to sit for the time being - and to lie down once the show began.
âThere⊠all set. It should not be long now before it begins.â
âBefore what begins?â
âJust lie down and keep your eyes open, and youâll seeâŠâ
Albeit being met with some skepticism regarding the words he had chosen to use, Sceada would eventually convince the Lalafell to lie down - just in time for the big show to begin, for this truly breathtaking natural phenomenon to unfold.
Lights of various colors would soon dance across the night sky, painting meandering bands into the heavens, illuminating them with their gentle and silent magnificence. They would begin gently, almost as though they carefully had to explore the foreign sky anew, slowly growing bolder and more daring as they proceeded to spread from the north. And finally, at the height of their mesmerizing performance, the lights would engulf the entire night sky, illuminating it so brightly, why, one could easily believe it to be day again already.
That whole spectacle lasted for a bit more than an hour, before the familiar, usual calm and stillness returned to the starry winter sky. The whole time, Scoot and Sceada had been lying there, marveling at the beauty unfolding overhead them. and when it at last ends, the Burmecian only had one things to say, one question to ask:
âWell Scoot⊠Did I promise too much?â
And with a happy grin, the Burmecian would resume watching the skies above - after all, perhaps theyâd yet be treated to a second round?
Only the heavens above would knowâŠ
