Moonbows
A moonbow, also known as a lunar rainbow or white rainbow, is a rainbow created by moonlight rather than sunlight. It's formed when light from the moon refracts and reflects off water droplets, like those in rain or mist, creating a visible arc of light in the sky. Moonbows are generally fainter and less colorful than regular rainbows, and they are much rarer due to the need for specific conditions like a full or near-full moon, clear skies, and dark skies.
Also called a Paraselene
(pair-uh-sell-een, sometimes mispronounced pair-uh-sail-een)
They have a long and interesting mythological history in many cultures. They are associated with the devil in English folklore, with Draugr or other dark elves/shadowfolk in Nordic mythology, and in Japanese mythology they’re associated with Tsukiyomi, the moon god, and are a sign of either good rice harvest, if they happen during summer, or a sign of imminent natural disasters, especially tsunamis and earthquakes. Sometimes they’re associated with death as well, probably because their solar counterpart, a Parhelion, is associated with rebirth (and by extension snakes)
They’re one of my favorite natural phenomena:)
Mildred found the receipt in Franks pants pocket, she froze in horror. The bologna sandwich she was eating dropped from her hands and fell face first onto the kitchen floor, splattering mustard everywhere.
"You son of BITCH!" she screamed. "I knew it!"
Frank bowed his head in shame. He didn't even know how to answer "I'm... I'm sorry Mildred. All these years you've been right... I'm.... I'm so sorry ".
Frank finally had to admit that Mildred was right. He has been paying too much for car insurance.
