âI Take Issueâ project- wrote my first graphic novelette! Not something Iâd normally say, but Iâm super proud of this.
(please excuse the weird layout, itâs formatted for printing rather than internet)
I had to reblog this. Because itâs not only beautifully painted, its idea is something that needs to be shared, again and again, so that more people will take their bloody buckets off.
Thank you for making this.

DJ's passengers say they were doing nothing wrong when Hess ran out in front of them in the road. Hess says he only fired because he was in fear for his life. Hess later admitted to lying on multiple occasions after DJâs death about the shooting.
These were all murders. They were not accidental. All of these innocent people: men, women AND children. Were murdered because they were black. Not because they were violent. Not because they were threatening, but because they were black. Something has to change. We have to MAKE a change. Black lives matter. Black men. Black women. Black children. Non-Binary blacks. Trans blacks. Every single one of their lives matter. Your friends. Your neighbors. Your teachers. Your brothers. Your sisters. We are the change.

âHookupâ
I rarely used Grindr because it was full of fake profiles and paranoid DL men, but I was in a mood that night. I was swiping through profiles when a guy messaged me his phone number. I checked out his profile but the only pic he had up was a pixelated pic of what looked like a pair of shoes. I sent him a message back saying I wasnât interested and when he asked why, I told him because he had no pics up. He then sent a message telling me to call him and I wouldnât regret it. I was going to block him and move on but something told me to give it a try. So, I called him.
âWassup,â he said to me after answering the call on the second ring.
âAre you gonna send me a pic?â I asked immediately.
He laughed and said, âWhy send a pic when you can come see me in public?â
âYour profile said youâre on the low. How can we meet in public if youâre on the low?â
âAinât nobody really in here right now. The store will be closinâ soon.â
      âStore? What store?â
âTarget. Iâm in the snack shop part of the store. If you wanna meet up then get yo fine ass down here. Your pics look sexy as fuck, bruh.â
Flattered, I laughed a little and asked, âYouâre at the Target in Fairmount Plaza?â
âYep. Iâm sittinâ at a table with my dick on brick thinkinâ about what yo head game must be like. Them lips look like they can do some damage. I ainât never been sucked up by a dude before.â
      âYou havenât?â
âNah, but I heard yâall know what to do. I need my dick slurped on and gagged on for real. I ainât nutted in over a week.â
âAlright, let me throw on some clothes and Iâll come meet you. If youâre on any kind of bullshit, I swear I will put you on blast in public.â
He laughed again and said, âBruh, I ainât on that bullshit. Youâll see.â
      âIâll be there shortly.â
      âBet.â
I ended the call and tried not to get excited or get my hopes up. I really needed some dick that night and I admit I was a little turned on by the fact that heâd never been with another guy before. True curious men were like unicorns and it was always amazing seeing their reactions to some of the things Iâd do to them. Before leaving to go meet up with my Grindr hookup, I told myself that if it didnât work out then I could still jackoff while one of my anal toys was up in my ass.

âBehind the Platformâ
I remember a time when I enjoyed doing a photoshoot with Jamal. Weâd smile and have fun while the photographer snapped shots of us and the mood would be so genuine. After the photoshoot, weâd go back home and have sex like two wild animals. Hell, there were times where we couldnât even make it home and weâd have to get it on in the back of his Chevrolet Tahoe. I truly missed those moments. Now, five years into our relationship, I constantly found myself wondering if being with him was still worth it.
âTurn your head toward me,â the photographer directed as he got in position to take another shot.
I turned my head towards him while facing the wall and he snapped a few shots of me. When I looked up and saw the way Jamal was watching me from across the room, a shiver ran up my spine. I could tell he was still angry because of the argument we had the night before. He hadnât said a word to me that morning but every time he stared at me; I could feel his anger. When the time came for him to join me, he finally spoke to me.
âI wanna do a separate shoot, Corey,â he told me as he took his shirt off. âIâm not really in the mood to do that lame ass couple shit.â
âLame ass couple shit?â I asked. âYou really are on some other shit today. Weâre supposed to send in solo pics and pics of us together. Theyâre not gonna pick us for the ad if we donât.â
      âSo?â
      âJamalâŠâ
âCan you go the fuck on already? Youâre done.â
âThis little pissy attitude of yours is really getting old. I canât believe youâre this mad because I used the last bit of laundry detergent last night. It is not that damn serious. All you had to do was take your ass down to the store and buy some more.â
                      Me (Corey McMillan)
      âIt ainât even about that.â
âOh, what the fuck ever, Jamal. Iâve had it with you picking petty shit to argue with me over. And Iâm tired of defending your stank ass attitude whenever my friends are visiting.â
âFuck your bitch ass friends. All they do is talk shit and eat my food and junk up my apartment.â
      âYour apartment?!â
âYes! I pay most of the bills up in that mothafucka! Youâve had it with me, huh? Iâve been had it with your sorry ass! Now get the fuck out my way!â He pushed me out of the way so that he could begin his session with the photographer.

âA Righteous Burdenâ
The date July 22, 2009 is a date that I will never forget. It was a cloudy Wednesday afternoon and while I wasnât necessarily looking forward to Pastor Ballardâs Bible study, I was excited about choir rehearsal because our choir director Mr. Hankinson had agreed to play a song that I composed myself. Iâd been trying to get him to use one of my compositions since I began writing music. I wasnât much of a gospel lyricist so Mr. Hankinson wrote words for the music, and they were amazing. I couldnât wait to sing the song with the choir for the first time and I really couldnât wait to sing it for the church that following Sunday. However, it wasnât my music that made July 22, 2009 memorable. It turned out to be the day I experienced a miracle.
âYouâre not gonna change my mind,â Kareem said to me while putting on his Jordans. âIâm done with school, Ant.â
âWhy now?â I asked while looking at myself in the mirror to make sure my tie was on right. âBaby, why would you drop out of school right before our senior year?â
âBecause itâs pointless. Iâm not goinâ to college or doinâ anything important so I donât see why I should waste my time.â
âSo, being at school with me is a waste of your time?â
âThat ainât what I meant and you know it. Anthony, Iâm just done with that shit. Iâm done with it. Iâm a grown ass man. FuckâŠI mean, forget school. I got other stuff I need to be worried about.â
Kareem Taylor had been my boyfriend for a little over a year but weâd known each other since elementary school. He was my best friend up until sixth grade, which was when he began picking on me and hanging out with the bad boys at school. I later figured out he picked on me because he liked me and even though I liked him, too, neither of us built up the nerve to do anything about it until the end of our tenth-grade year. I wrote him a letter basically telling him that I wanted us to be boyfriends. He came to my house after school that day and gave me my first kiss. And just like that, we were together.
