episode two : origins, part two — gargoyle
The sun rose outside and he groaned, covering his sensitive eyes from the piercing sunlight. Last night, he kept tossing and turning, thinking about the previous events. His sister had been….monster-ized, and came back with rocks-for-hands. The eldest of the three Robotnik siblings, Maria, was shocked and very, very worried. Blaze had assured her that she and it was fine, but he was still worried about it.
What if he had taken more time to rescue her? Would she have been stuck like that….forever?
And he hadn’t captured the “akuma”....whatever that was. That just proves he wasn’t good enough to be a superhero.
Tikki whizzed up into the air, yawning and stretching. “Good morning, Shadow! Ready to—wait, what are you doing?”
He held up his hand, ready to take off the earrings. “I didn’t complete the job, Tikki. How can I be a good holder if I didn’t complete all the steps?”
“That was an error on my part. I should’ve told you—”
He didn’t let her finish the sentence. “Tikki, I renounce you.” Shadow took the earrings out and put them in the box they came in. Jumping down from his bed, he slipped them in the vanity drawer near his trapdoor.
Just in time, because the trapdoor opened and his sister appeared. “Oh, hi, Shadow. Breakfast is ready and Blaze is already downstairs.”
“Thanks, Maria, I’ll, uh, be down soon.” He promised, relaxing his raised quills. But she didn’t leave yet, instead narrowing her eyes and opening the trapdoor more.
“Why’re you acting so tense and suspicious? Do you have a boy in here or something?” She searched around, her blonde hair whipping around.
“No. I’m, uh, coming down right now.”
He wiggled past and into the kitchen. Blaze was sitting down, holding a croissant in her hand. He sat down next to her and grabbed an apple.
“How’s school, you two?” Maria asked, washing her hands and grabbing an orange by the sink.
“It’s good,” His younger sister swallowed. “I feel like something weird happened yesterday, though. Sally was teasing me again and I saw a purple butterfly fly up to me. Then I blacked out and woke up in the middle of the city with two people and my hands were turned into rocks.”
This is interesting, Shadow found himself thinking. I wonder if—no, I renounced her. I don’t have to worry about this anymore. I just need to find her a new holder….someone better than me.
He grabbed his schoolbag off the wall and slung it over his shoulder; he tossed the apple core into the compost. Blaze mimicked him and waved bye to their sister.
Of course, he hugged her goodbye.
He loved both his sisters but felt a deeper connection to Maria as he’d known her his entire life. Blaze was his adopted sister, and he’d only known her since she was ten years old—about four years. He still loved her the same, though.
“Bye! Love you!” They both chorused and ran outside. He swiped the garage-and-motorcycle keys from the key bowl as they did, and he pressed the pink button to open it up. It revealed the Dark Rider, his pride and joy, and his fifteenth birthday present. Maria had let him paint and decorate it himself, but Blaze got some input so there were a couple random Hello Kitty stickers on the seats and handlebars.
The two of them got on and drove away.
~<>🪲<>~
Shadow tied the motorcycle to the pole, always making sure he could see it from the main classroom. If he saw anybody steal it, all he’d have to do was run down two flights of stairs and—
“That’s a cool bike. Is it yours?”
He turned to the source of the voice and found it was Maurice, the guy sprinkled on any Byrn and/or Alliance ad (he saw him all the time since everyone who came to the bakery had an Alliance). “Yeah. I just got it for my fifteenth birthday three days ago. I’m not sure I’ve got the hang of it yet, but I’m getting there.”
The blue hedgehog was standing, tapping his foot. Likely in boredom, Shadow thought. After all, he’s got the same, if not more money as Sally. Why would he listen to me and think it’s interesting? He’s probably got robot butlers or something telling him the same information.
The bell rang and Maurice jumped a foot in the air. “Oh shoot I’m late! We’re late!” He jetted off towards the doors, leaving a tiny cloud of dust in his wake.
Shadow picked up his stuff and left for the room as well.
~<>⚡<>~
When he came into the room, he spotted Sally’s friend Nicole hunched over someone’s seat.
Shadow’s seat, he realized.
The blue hedgehog dashed to the other side, seeing the lynx squishing bright pink gum onto the seat. “Why’re you doing that?” Maurice growled.
“Sally told me to.” Nicole zipped over to her seat. He looked around for something and saw nothing that could help him. So, he reached for the gum with his bare hands, holding back a gag.
He heard voices and spotted the black hedgehog walking with a white bat. His pink eyes flicked over to Maurice and a horrified look crossed his face.
“You stuck gum on my seat?” He growled.
“No, wait, it was—” Maurice tried to explain but the black hedgehog cut him off.
“I should’ve known you were just like Sally. After all, why should you care about the lower class?” Shadow snarled, shoving him aside and covering the gum with a tissue. He stormed over to the trash can and dropped the tissue-with-gum in there.
He sat down in front of Shadow (his assigned seat) and sighed. Knuckles patted his back. Maurice looked at him and the echidna shrugged. “You really shouldn’t have done that. He holds grudges for a loooooong time. If you hadn’t done anything, he would’ve figured out it was Sally anyway.”
“He would’ve sat on it. I can’t just stand there and do nothing.”
“Goood morning, class!” Miss Elise greeted them all with a wave and a clap of her hands. “Today, we’re learning about….sculpting! Here with us, we have our very own….”
~<>🦋<>~
The window opened on her, casting sunlight onto her body. The butterflies fluttered around her, having seemingly been attracted to her by the first transformation using the Moth Miraculous.
“Ahhh, two different sets of negative emotions! Perfect timing for—” She gasped, recognizing one of them. “My son? I….” She imagined his face in her mind, smiling at her with five teeth missing. It was just a few weeks before her husband became sick, when they were relaxing in the garden. His big green eyes had been filled with wonder and love, but now whenever she saw him, they were always downcast and tired. “I….I can’t akumatize my son. Perhaps….”
She searched for the other set of negative emotions, instead finding two more. One was growing stronger and the other was fading. Purple Empress released the little Emperor from her cane.
“Go forth, my little Emperor, and re-akumatize this shunned girl!”
~<>🔥<>~
She stomped down the hall, glaring at the few students who passed by her. Why couldn’t she focus? The notes on the music sheet should’ve been so easy, but she kept messing up. Aaand she didn’t need the additional pressure from the other band members. So what if—
Her tirade was interrupted by a familiar presence in her mind.
“Gargoyle, I’m giving you back your powers, with a little bit of extra oomph. From now on, whoever you touch with your paper ball will become just like you! Use these people to get me Crimson Eye’s and Overdrive’s Miraculous!”
“Yes, Purple Empress.”
~<>🪲<>~
Shadow’s hand curled around the mini Miraculous box. He didn’t know Rouge much but he still considered giving it to her. He couldn’t give it to either of his sisters, since Maria had enough responsibility already and Blaze had already been….monster-fied. He took a deep breath and slipped it into the bat’s bag. She glanced at him but he played it cool.
He heard a thud outside and raised his quills in defense. The screaming outside grew louder and with every thud, he regretted his life decisions.
A familiar rock monster burst through the wall and everyone scattered. The manners that had been drilled into everyone was forgotten as everyone pushed and trampled to get outside. He saw Maurice dart out of the room, his quillband straining to hold his now puffed-up quills; he hoped he could find somewhere to hide safely.
Well, it’s not like he was concerned for him. It’s just that….they needed someone to warn Crimson Eye and Overdrive.
Well, just Overdrive now.
The rock monster threw a purple ball and it hit Sally in the back. She multiplied in size and rubble encased her in a shell that made her look like a statue of herself.
Shadow curled up into a ball, puffing out his quills in defense. If it seemed like everyone was clustered around the door, this threat to him would leave him alone.
“Hey, Rock Lady!” That familiar voice yelled and he was glad to see Overdrive standing there, his bright green shoes just inches from the former superhero’s nose.
“Where’s Crimson Eye?” Rouge whispered from underneath the seat—he jumped and let out a hiss as he hit the seat. “He should be here as well.”
“Uh, he might be helping everyone escape while Overdrive distracts the villain?” Shadow offered a weak excuse that his friend didn’t seem to buy. Perhaps if you check your bag, another superhero might show up. He tried to will her into searching her bag, but the bat didn’t seem to be able to receive telepathic messages.
“Y’know, Handsome, you’ve been a bit weird lately—”
The desk was thrown away with a loud bang and he flinched, covering his ears. He opened one eye and looked at Blaze, who had an almost remorseful expression on her face.
It quickly disappeared and the purple ball hit Rouge, turning her into a rock monster as well. He took the opportunity to run with the bat’s schoolbag, but two rock monsters boxed him in. A third was perched on the railing, forming a loose circle around him.
There were three loud cracks and Overdrive had one lying on the ground with him standing on its back. “Huh, seems like these ones don’t grow in size whenever you hit them,” He looked up and held a hand out to Shadow. “Don’t worry, I’ll get you out of here, citizen.”
He took it; the superhero grabbed onto him and extended his staff to the roof. He set the black hedgehog down gently. “Now stay here and you’ll be safe.”
On the roof? He wanted to say, but held his tongue. Instead, he muttered, “My….my sister is the original rock monster. Please don’t hurt her.”
The hedgehog hesitated but nodded. “I won’t. I’ll come get you when we’ve rescued her.” He promised, and jumped off the roof.
Shadow shook his head in annoyance and ducked into the fire exit. There was nobody hiding in there, so he surmised that this would be a fine place to transform. He opened the box and shielded his eyes from the brilliant pink light.
Tikki appeared; when she saw him, her face lit up. “Shadow! You’re back!” She nuzzled (hugged?) the side of his face and he glanced back out.
“There’s no time to lose. Tikki, spots on!”
~<>🐞<>~
He jumped down from the roof and landed next to Overdrive. “Need a hand?” He asked, knocking away one of the monsters from his partner.
“Took ya long enough!” The superhero extended his staff so he was running along the rooftops. “She’s climbing the Clock Tower! We’ve got to stop her before she gets to the top.” He pointed at the distant silhouette of his sister.
“Got it. The butterfly’s in the paper again. This time I know what to do.” Crimson Eye grabbed Overdrive and latched onto a streetpole. They swung towards the Clock Tower and landed about a few hundred feet behind his sister. He let the other hedgehog go and began climbing up after her.
“So what’s the plan?” His partner called.
“I’m going to—” He began, but was interrupted by the sound of Blaze coughing and hacking. A giant cloud of purple-black butterflies gathered around and formed the face of a woman.
It was hard to pick out any identifying features, but Crimson Eye definitely noticed the mouth opening. “Crimson Eye, Overdrive, I am Purple Empress. You’ve seen what I’ve done today and yesterday and it’ll only continue. The only way to stop this is to give me your Miraculous!”
He held up the yo-yo and sent it flying at the akuma cloud. With every evil butterfly captured, the cloud dwindled until there was nothing left. He turned and saw the camera-drones surrounding him.
Now or never.
“People of Soleanna!” He glanced at the camera, hoping the public couldn’t notice how nervous he was. “Overdrive and I are here to protect you from Purple Empress and whatever they sent to attack. And to you, Purple Empress, we’ll never give up our Miraculous!” Crimson Eye held up his yo-yo and released the purified akumas into the sky.
~<>🦋<>~
She growled as the last thing she saw was the annoyingly bright red yo-yo of the Miraculous of Creation’s holder. She snarled and glared at the closing window.
“I’ll get you next time—wait. I still have connection to Gargoyle,” Purple Empress activated the connection, grinning. “Gargoyle, they want to take away your powers and stop you! Get their Miraculouses and stop them!”
~<> 🐞<>~
Overdrive hopped up to stand next to him. “Nice speech, m’lord.” He complimented, winking at him and smirking.
Crimson Eye rolled his eyes. “Told you not to call me that. Now where is—”
A large thud shook the Tower and his partner tottered on one foot, waving his arms around exaggeratedly. Both of them turned and saw Blaze climbing the side of the Tower. The white hedgehog noticed them and yelled, “Help! She won’t let me go!”
“We’re coming to save you, citizen!” Overdrive shouted (hopefully reassuring to Silver, the hedgehog Blaze was holding).
“We need to beat Bla—uh, Rock Lady to the top.” Crimson Eye pointed up. “There’s no time to play games!”
His partner smirked. “Well, then, race ya! Last one to the top’s a rotten egg!” The Miraculous holder nimbly hopped up the criss-crossing pillars, using his staff to get to higher places.
He groaned and used the yo-yo to go up. At Overdrive’s shocked expression, he feigned innocence and shrugged. “Just using what I’ve got.”
Soon, they managed to get to the top and Crimson Eye stood right in front of the ‘VI’ (six in Roman numerals, for those of you who don’t understand) on the clock. He glanced down at Blaze and Overdrive (and at the city below) and swallowed. Perhaps this….was too high up. Maybe he should go down a little….
No, I came up here for a reason.
“Lucky Charm!”
A black-spotted parachute landed in his hands, nearly unbalancing him; Crimson Eye glanced around, searching for other objects that could help….
He saw Silver waving at him and an idea suddenly came to the black hedgehog. He saw Overdrive trying to pull Blaze’s grip loose, but failing each time. “Wait, Overdrive!” The superhero called. “We need to bring them together, not take them apart!” He slipped the parachute onto his back and threw his yo-yo down.
The yo-yo wrapped around her wrist and he pulled, clenching his teeth so hard he was sure he chipped a fang. Silver moved closer and closer until they (hopefully) kissed. There was a moment of shock and she dropped the white hedgehog. Crimson Eye took a deep breath and jumped off.
His senses seemed to shut down as he fell, but he managed to grab onto Silver and activate the parachute. “Overdrive!” He yelled. “Break the akumatized object and secure Blaze!”
He heard the faint cry of “Cataclysm!” in the distance and an akuma fluttered into view. Crimson Eye threw his yo-yo and caught it.
Eventually, his feet touched solid ground and he would’ve kissed it if not for the parachute falling on his head. Overdrive chuckled and removed it; the black hedgehog tried his best to shove the parachute back together, but he gave up. The superhero freed the akuma into the wild (Warriors reference! /j).
Crimson Eye threw the parachute into the air and shouted, “Miraculous Crimson Eye!”
The parachute dispersed into magic ladybugs that flew around. Wherever they touched, the object or person was turned back to normal. He turned back to Blaze, who was hunched over at the base of the Tower. Both her arms had turned to stone.
He walked over to her and helped her up. “It happened again, didn’t it?” She asked.
“Yes, but you’re safe now. I think you should try telling Silver how you feel instead of focusing on making a complicated song for them. Just let them read the lyrics you wrote and I’m sure he’ll love it.” Crimson Eye handed her the unbroken paper and gestured over at Silver.
Blaze handed him the lyrics and he yo-yo’d away to stand next to Overdrive. Clearly his sister must’ve said or done something right, because the two of them embraced. He smiled softly and looked over at his partner, who was leaning against his staff and looking over at the horizon, his dark gray fur tinted orangish.
Crimson Eye’s earrings beeped and he turned to the city. “I’ve got to go now. Uh, bye!” He yo-yo’d away back home.
~<>🪲<>~
“Spots off.”
There was a flash of red light and he caught Tikki mid-fall. He grabbed one of his late-night-cravings from the drawer and handed it to his kwami. “You did great, Shadow. Are you sure you want to give up the Ladybug Miraculous?”
He hesitated and glanced at the drawer where he stored the box. “I-I’m not sure. I will continue being Crimson Eye until someone who’s better than me comes along.”
Tikki nodded and did a little spin in the air. “Yay! I can’t wait to see how many more akumatized villains pop up. After two hundred years of sleeping, I’m so happy to finally stretch my wings!” She fluttered around, leaving a little trail of pink sparkles.
“Wait,” Shadow held his hand up. “If I’m going to do this, I need to know everything about being a superhero. Okay?”
The Ladybug kwami flew up to him. “I’ll tell you everything that I can. I promise.”
He heard a call from downstairs and nodded. “Okay, but later. I need to go to dinner.”
Shadow opened the trapdoor and ran down the steps, stumbling a little bit on the last one, and dashing into the kitchen. Blaze was sitting at their table, eagerly shoving salad into her mouth. Maria was sitting across from her, and her face brightened when she noticed her brother standing there at the end of the stairs.
“Come join us.” She smiled, pinning up her blonde hair in a bun and gesturing for him to come closer.
Shadow moved forwards and sat down next to his younger sister, grabbing some salad and nibbling on it. Blaze started talking about her version of the events after she was de-akumatized.
“That’s nice, Burnt Toast.” Maria patted her on the head and turned her batter-stained face to her brother. “And what did you do today, Shadow? Anything fun?”
“I, uh, fled in terror from the school.” He joked weakly, grabbing one of his lower quills and combing through the quills there.
“Well, we had a visitor today. Blaze, there’s someone downstairs to see you.” The two girls left the room, leaving him alone with his thoughts.
He thought back over the events of the day. In the morning, when he was locking up his motorcycle—
Oh shoot! My motorcycle!
Shadow grabbed the keys off the wall and ran downstairs; all the three people in the closed-down bakery saw was a black blur. “Sorry I forgot my motorcycle at the school!”
Maria chuckled. “Be safe, Shadow.”

“Maurice, focus!”
“M-Mother, I don’t want to do this right now. C-can we finish later?”
“Maurice, I am your mother and you will do as I say.”
“....”
“....yes, Mother.”
~<>⚡<>~
His head was propped up by his gloved hand as he stared out the window, tapping his fingers rhythmically against his knee. A piece of paper was placed delicately in his lap.
“Here’s your schedule, Maurice. If you want directions to your classes, just walk straight until you get to the double doors.” Mother’s assistant informed him.
“Thanks, Vanilla.”
The car stopped in front of a huge building, even bigger than his mansion. The doors were wide open and students swarmed like ants on a forgotten piece of food. He got out of the car, rubbing the bands of his schoolbag before he said good-bye to Vanilla.
Maurice started walking, fingers secretly crossed that no one recognized him.
“I think that’s the guy on my Alliance screen, look!”
“Look, that’s the son of the head of Byrn! He’s on my Alliance. His voice is sooo hot.” (note from author: I do not believe this, I just wanna say that this is a crazy fan, okay?)
Already, people started crowding him, asking for an autograph of a picture. Every time he could, Maurice let them (reluctantly) take a picture of him or obliged to just a brief signage of his name.
“....what makes you think anyone’s even going to like your silly pastries? I bet they’re no good, just like you.”
He turned and searched for the origin of the insults. His green-eyed gaze landed on a brown chipmunk surrounded by a couple other mobians, backing a black-and-red hedgehog up against the wall. A box of spilled pastries was at his feet.
Maurice was about to step in when a white bat did it for him. She said something to the chipmunk, who ran away, angry.
He pushed away the fans, apologizing, and ran up the stairs, making a run for it.
Vanilla had said double doors….hopefully this is the right room.
The blue hedgehog pushed open the doors and shut them, flinching at the slam. The room around him was big, with a large window on one wall that reflected the skyline behind the desk; the walls had two large bookshelves, with the occasional photo. An owl mobian sat behind the desk, typing on a computer. The name tent on the front read ‘Dennis Damocles’ in all-caps. “State your name and why you’re here.”
He smoothed down the ruffled quills. “Maurice, sir.”
“Ah, you must be the heir to Byrn and the new student here, right? I’m Mr. Damocles, the principal here. Welcome to Soleanna Academy.” The owl mobian reached out his hand (wing?) and shook the blue hedgehog’s gloved hand.
“Uh, Mr. Principal, I was sent here for directions to my first class, uh….English with….Miss Elise?” He glanced at the paper poking out of his bag.
“Alright. I’ll send someone here to take you to your class.”
~<>🪲<>~
“Shadow Doom-Robotnik to the Main Office, please. Shadow….”
The principal’s voice echoed through the classroom. The chipmunk in front of him snickered, acting like she had reported him and got him in trouble. Of course, she had done that before, but he was always let off with a warning.
“Shut it, Sally.” He growled, picking up his bags. If he were going to be expelled or suspended, he might as well make it easy on himself and make one trip.
~<>⚡<>~
Maurice sat in the uncomfortable plush chairs at Mr. Damocles’ desk, bouncing his leg and glancing around. How much longer until he was gonna be a real student?
The doors clicked and they opened to reveal….another hedgehog, just like him.
The hedgehog wasn’t much taller than him—maybe just a bit shorter—with light red highlights and pinkish red eyes. He had golden bracelets on each arm and leg; he wore a gray shirt with red accents and black shorts. He had a large patch of white chest fur on his chest (how could he bear to have it? He must be so itchy all the time). A gray schoolbag with the logo of Soleanna Academy was slung over his shoulder with a barely-hidden paper drooping out of it.
The black hedgehog remained standing by the other chair. “You asked for me?”
“Shadow, this is Maurice; he’s a new student here and I want you to take him to all of his classes. It’s a good thing you share every single one with him.” Mr. Damocles shooed them away. “Now both of you go, you’re late.”
The black hedgehog grabbed his wrist and they walked down the hallway. The blue hedgehog’s green-eyed gaze kept darting everywhere, memorizing the school campus.
“Here we are.” Shadow pushed open the door and held it open for him. Maurice walked through and looked around. The student’s desks were elevated above the floor, with stairs leading up to the ending desk in the middle and ramps on either side. There were three windows on both sides with frosted glass and patterned frames. The teacher—Miss Elise, he assumed—was standing in front of a desk with the words ‘Introductions Today’ written behind her.
“You must be Maurice,” The teacher turned to him. “You sit there,” She pointed at the closest desk to the door. “Next to Knuckles. Take off those headphones—we’re in class, not at home.”
The red echidna waved and shoved the headphones into his bag. Knuckles had white bandages wrapped around his dreadlocks and wore a dark green shirt with rips and holes, and blue jeans. A hat with gold stars and an upturned hem was next to him. “What’s up?” He greeted him.
“Maurice,” He shook his hand and sat up perfectly straight. “Do you like this school? It’s my first time being here—in any school, really.”
The echidna had a shocked face for moments before he shook his head. “Yeah, it’s mainly cool, but why would you—? Oh, right, because of all the Alliance stuff, huh?”
He hadn’t noticed the silver ring with the cursive ‘B-A’ on it before, but now he did. “Yeah, my mother sure does keep ‘this guy’ busy.”
“Boys, stop chatting and focus,” The teacher said, and Maurice straightened his posture and fidgeted with the Alliance ring on his finger. “Now quick—when did the Festival of the Sun first start? Gadget?”
“It first started two hundred years ago, when many people in this city spotted a rare occurrence called Solaris’ Fingers, where the sun was closer to Mobius than normal and appeared to have tendrils shooting out of it. Another one of these instances was reported several years later, when the Duke of this city saw it and announced that it was to be remembered.” The red wolf sitting by the window informed them. He yelped when electricity shocked him from the weird red thing he had on the table.
“Very good, Gadget,” The cheetah turned to the board; her orangish-red tail flicked. “Oh, today we’ll be talking about afternoon classes! The classes we have so far are the arts after-school pathway, the music pathway, and fashion pathway. So far, Shadow is the only person who’s applied for the arts pathway; Rouge, Sally, and Nicole applied for the fashion pathway, and Gadget and Knuckles both applied for the music pathway. Maurice, would you like to sign up for one? You just need to take this form to your mother and have her sign it.”
A piece of paper was placed in front of him and he sighed. “I, uh, have too much to do after school. I probably won’t even have time, but thanks.” The blue hedgehog shoved it into his bag.
Although….this would be a nice escape. Mother had always kept him busy with home-school, gymnastics, painting, playing guitar, and running, so it would greatly surprise him if she agreed to sign him up for anything.
~<>🪲<>~
He was sitting at the same table with Rouge, Cream (a girl from another class), and, unfortunately, Sally and Nicole. The former of the duo was too absorbed in herself to notice him, so he continued on being silent. His bat friend was busy talking about her new relationship with Knuckles, and he just let her ramble in the background as he doodled absently on the piece of paper in front of him.
There was a loud crash and he turned, alarmed, towards the music section. Sally had wandered over there and started yapping about his sister’s “horrible drum playing”.
“Hey, shut up.” He growled, standing up abruptly and baring his teeth at the chipmunk.
“What? It’s not my fault Blaze is too monotone. Ha! She’s too chicken to put emotion in it, much less tell her main ‘singer’ and cr—”
The purple cat stood from the drums and stormed out, not saying a single word.
~<>🐢<>~
He sat, crouched, hiding behind a pillar, watching the two mobians in the hallway. A black hedgehog and a purple cat stood there, talking; the cat was angry but calming down. The black hedgehog seemed to be the candidate for his former Miraculous, but he’d have to be careful.
He slipped the box into the black hedgehog’s bag and darted away.

She shut the door of her study quietly, as not to alarm anyone. The painting of her husband loomed over her, his brown eyes staring down at her with the love she captured when she painted it herself. The memories captured in the glass cages around her lined the walls: the first dress she ever designed, her wedding outfit, and a singular mannequin with nothing but a pin on a blank white shirt. The pin was a small silver oval with just a tiny sliver of purple peeking out; it seemed to be calling to her.
It’d been in the Lunaire family for generations, passed on by her great-grandparent about a hundred years ago. Her son didn’t know about it; her mother had told her that it was typically given to the youngest on their eighteenth birthday, while her son was only fourteen years old.
The purple hedgehog delicately opened the glass box and pinned the jewel to her blouse. The gem glowed and let out a burst of pinkish-purple light so bright she shielded her eyes. When the light disappeared, she saw….something floating in the air.
It was a light purple, vaguely-animalistic, with large fluffy glowing antennae; there was a black swirl on its forehead. It had iridescent white-and-blue wings. It opened its eyes; they were slightly fearful with black eyes and purple sclera. There was a collar of fluffy white fur around its neck.
“What….are you?” She (somewhat hesitantly) asked the thing.
“I am Nooroo, the Kwami of Control. Which Lunaire calls on me now?”
She sighed. “Not important right now. Tell me, what are you? What do you do? Why are you in my family heirloom?”
Nooroo seemed to sigh, as if it’d been thinking of something else. “I’m a kwami, and my power is to create devoted followers for the user of the Moth Miraculous. I’m in your heirloom because—”
“Wait,” She held up a hand, pressing a finger to her chin in thought. “Devoted followers? How?”
The kwami gulped, wincing. “B-by using their e-emotions, the holder of my Miraculous can give them powers and have slight control over the affected person’s actions.”
She stood there, thinking. “So….I could use one to give someone the power to bring my husband back?”
Nooroo flinched. “N-no, only the wish granted by the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses can. By joining those two together, you can make a wish, which for you, would be to bring your husband back. But be warned, there’s a terrible—”
“What do I have to do to get these ‘Miraculouses’?”
“Just say, ‘Nooroo, dark wings rise!’ To de-transform, you say, ‘Nooroo, dark wings fall.’”
“Nooroo, dark wings rise!”

Blaze shooed away her brother’s hand. “Whatever. I’m not going to go dance around and hug and kiss Sally. She hates me, Nibbles! I’m not gonna give her the pleasure of seeing my face again.” She stormed away, leaving her brother standing there in the hallway by the railing.
A little purplish butterfly flew up to her and landed on the crumpled-up music sheet in her hand. The background noises became muted and she heard a voice.
“Stoneheart, I am Purple Empress. Words can be a piercing spear when anyone wants them to be, huh? Well, don’t worry, I’m giving you the power to be like an unmovable rock, and their words will never get to you again. In return, I want the….Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses! Do we have a deal?”
“Yes, Purple Empress.”

He snuck up on the candidate for the Black Cat and watched him, checking for any bad qualities. So far, so good (if you know, you know). He heard crashes in the distance and knew there was no time to waste. He slipped the box into the boy’s bag and slipped away.

He exited the car and walked up the stairs. The huge wooden doors opened, revealing the normal, sparsely decorated mansion that Mother called home. He brought the bag up to his room, climbing up the stairs, up more stairs, and his room was on the right. When he hung up his bag by the door, he felt something hard that wasn’t in it before. The blue hedgehog searched through his bag for the object until he felt something in an octagonal shape. He brought it out and analyzed it for anything suspicious.
It was black with an odd red pattern on the top. Maurice sniffed it and opened it. There was a bright flash of green light and he shielded his eyes, groaning as spots danced across his vision, exploding like fireworks. The light disappeared and he lowered his arm, still in a defensive position.
An odd creature was floating there: it was a black cat with a dark green tabby pattern and a long tail. The paw pads were pale silver and glowing; it also had pale white-and-silver rings on his tail. The creature yawned and opened its eyes.
“What year is it? Nevermind that—where’s the cheese?” It darted around the room. “Is this food?” The creature—flying cat?—began chomping down on things.
“Wha—no! That’s my extensive souvenir collection! You’re in Soleanna, the capital of Spagonia, in the year 20—hey! No, you can’t eat that! It’s my couch!” He lunged and caught the cat; it let out a wail as the two thumped to the ground.
“Heh. Gotcha,” Maurice smirked. “Now—what are you? Why are you here? What’s up with the whole….” He removed one hand and gestured vaguely at it.
“Oh, I’m Plagg, the Kwami of Destruction. I grant you the power to destroy anything you touch; it’s called CATa….clysm. Obviously, this ring is the Black Cat Mira—ooh, cheese!” He phased through the blue hedgehog’s fist and started nibbling on the cheese slices he brought in for his chili dog. “If you wanna—mmm!—transform, just say—wow, this cheese is solid—, ‘Plagg, claws out.’ To de-transform, just say—*ahem*—’claws in’.”
“Alright! Plagg, claws out!”
“WAITNOTRIGHTNOWI’MNOT—”

He extended the staff and safely landed on the roof of one of the buildings, stretching. This was amazing! If only he could stay like this forever. The silver cylinder in his hand stretched to touch the roof of the building opposite him; he started tightrope walking and—
“INCOMING!” Someone yelled and crashed into him.
There was a whirring sound and the two dangled together. Red eyes stared at him and he winked. Whatever they were tied up with retreated and they both fell. The guy with red eyes landed perfectly and he landed hard, faceplanting (like in the games 😭).
He stood up and rubbed his head. “Apologies,” the guy dusted himself off. “I—oh, my hat!” He leaned down and grabbed a dark red hat off the ground; he put it on and his face was immediately shadowed by a veil of sorts.
The guy had a dark red jacket with an open front that exposed his fluffy white chest fur; the edges of his sleeves were pale yellow (except for his right wrist, which was a bit weird). The same thing was on the edges of his black spotted pants. His shoes had red soles, a white tip, and red-spotted black patterns. The top of his shoes were the same yellow as his sleeve. His quills (at least he thought those were quills) were tied in what he thought was a low ponytail. The gloves were fingerless and white, exposing light-red stripes on the end of each fingertip.
“Who are you?” He purred. “I’m….Overdrive.”
The guy rolled his eyes—at least he thought so; it was hard to see his eyes ’cause they were obscured by the veil. “....Crimson….Eye.”
“Nice to meet you,” He grabbed his hand and kissed the back of it. “M’lord.”
“Don’t you dare start calling me that,” The hedgehog growled. “Now why are we—”

Some giant rock monster stomped down and Crimson Eye let out a surprised gasp like he recognized it. The rock monster looked like a cat mobian with lava pulsing underneath the rocks. The rock cat lumbered towards the plaza in the middle of the city, breaking through walls in its path. “How do we do this?” He shouted at Crimson Eye.
“I thought you knew!” He shouted back, swinging back and forth between the buildings before he latched onto another building.
An idea appeared in his head. “Oh, I’ve got an idea! My kwami told me all about this. Cataclysm!” His hand with the ring glowed and bubbles of dark purple energy swirled around it. “It allows me to destroy anything I touch, see?” Overdrive leaned against one of the chimneys on the roof and a black dust appeared around it, instantly destroying it.
He jumped on the monster, expecting it to crumble into dust like the chimney. Instead, the monster growled and expanded in size. The hedgehog dropped like a fly and Crimson Eye swooped down and caught him. The two landed on a nearby roof behind the rock monster.
“Thanks for the save.” Overdrive was set down and he stretched, rolling his arm. “Now….what do we do?”
The black hedgehog stared at his yo-yo. “Hmmm….my kwami told me about this….Lucky Charm?” The yo-yo went straight up in the air and glowed; a wetsuit appeared in Crimson Eye’s hands.
“Maybe your Miraculous wants us to go swimming.” He joked. “Whaddaya say?”
“No,” His partner responded flatly. “Maybe—wait, where’d she go?”
“Where’d who go?” Overdrive glanced around. “The cat made of rocks? Thataway.” He pointed north.
“Alrights, let’s go.” Crimson Eye threw his yo-yo and they sailed off towards the plaza.

The two of them landed perfectly, striking poses. The rock monster (monstress? Wait, is there a feminine term for the word ‘monster’?—author) had sat down in the middle of the plaza. One hand was resting on the ground, outstretched, while the other was curled up but still on the ground.
“I’m betting we’ve got to get that hand open to defeat her,” Crimson Eye guessed. He paused for a really long time before he perked up. “I’ve got it! Overdrive, can you help me? Throw some cars at her?”
“What, do I look like I have super strength?” He felt that burning red-eyed glare even from the other side of the veil. “Okay, okay, fine.” The dark blue hedgehog hopped down. “Batter up!” He whacked a car and sent it flying towards the rock lady. Overdrive let out a whoop of joy but it quickly died when she grew taller and caught the car in her outstretched hand.
Apparently, it seemed to be enough for Crimson Eye, who threw the polka-dotted wetsuit (now apparently attached to a tube) at Rock Lady. She caught it in the clenched hand and a small purple-colored ball dropped from the hand. He jumped and caught it.
“What do I do now?” He yelled up at the red-spotted superhero.
“Just yell ‘Cataclysm’ or whatever you said earlier! Didn’t your kwami explain anything to you? Only the Black Cat’s Cataclysm can destroy the akumatized object!” Crimson Eye jumped down and landed next to him.
“Cataclysm!” The purple ball crumbled to dust in Overdrive’s fingers and a small purple butterfly flew out and away. The two of them watched it fly away.
Rock Lady groaned and began to shrink in size. Purple bubbles formed around her and she turned back into a light purple cat. “Wh-what happened?”
“You were, uh….turned into a rock monster. I don’t know why, but you’re safe now, Bla—uhhh, ma’am.” Crimson Eye helped her up.
“Thank you. What’re your names?” The purple cat asked.
“Uhhh….Crimson Eye and Overdrive.”

He jumped in through his bedroom window. “Tikki, spots off.”
The Kwami of Creation, Tikki, landed on his couch. He picked her up in one hand delicately and set her on the side of his desk, putting one of his emergency-stash cookies next to her. As she ate, he kept thinking about when he de-monsterized Blaze.
Tikki swallowed. “That was a very good first job, Shadow. You did everything well.” She praised.
“Thanks—” He turned back to look at her but paused. There was a red-and-black wetsuit dripping water onto his pink carpet.
Is that….my Lucky Charm?
“Wait….why is that still there?” He asked the kwami.
“Did you not say ‘Miraculous Crimson Eye’ or capture the akuma?”
Shadow paused.
“Oh sh—”

Ahhh, FINALLY!
Wow, that was a long chapter. Took me FOUR DAYS to write this (on paper). Oof.
So, yeah, there’ll be slight lore changes throughout this AU (including kwami and Miraculous designs and powers), so, uhhh….don’t rage at me? Please?
Anyway, bye!
