Blank Tiles|| Scout & Trevor
Trevor kept his cool very well, even though his mind was wandering off in about a million different directions. His competitive side tried to keep his attention on the game, but every other part of him was focused on Scout. Except the parts that only focused onā¦no, he wouldnāt let those thoughts invade this date. Heād decided that it was definitely a date, because if it wasnātā¦he wouldnāt care what she was thinking. Of course there was the part that was screaming ābut what if its not a dateā in the back of his mind, but he ignored it in favor of the idea that he was on a date with a beautiful ballerina that heād had his eye on.Ā
The moment their hands brushed against one anotherās, he felt it. He didnāt know whatĀ itĀ was, but heād felt itā¦a spark. Her cheeks turned a light shade of pink, and he wondered if sheād felt it, too. āI know I didnātĀ haveĀ to, but I wanted to. I know itās no trophy, but hopefully itāll suffice for now.ā he replied. His gift had gotten the desired effect, she hadnāt even opened it and she already seemed pretty happy. It was obvious that her mind was elsewhere also, so he decided to make the first moveā literally. āIāll go.ā He said, swiftly putting down the tiles that spelled ābeautyā down the middle of the board.
He glanced up at her and smirked, as he pulled new tiles from the bag. āSoā¦ā he started, haphazardly running a hand through his hair. He knew that it would nag him all night if he didnāt clear the air now. āYou now how you said this was a non-date, right?ā he asked, gesturing towards her. āYour move.ā he said, crossing one arm over the other and peeking at his set of new tiles.Ā Ā
Scout couldn't breathe. Despite her attempts to draw air in and out of her lungs, there was simply no cooperation between her brain and body. But she didn't really mind it, she realized; the dizziness and breathlessness were pleasant as she knelt down on his soft carpet, her legs tucked underneath her as he spoke to her in that cool voice of his. She wondered why she'd waited this long to develop an infatuation like this one. When he spelled out his word,she felt her cheeks flush again, quickly reaching over to grab the little white notepad and stub of a pencil. She drew a t-chart with the upper segments reading 'Scout' and 'Trevor', marking down the points he received for his word. "Eleven points," she declared, looking back down to her tiles. She'd been too slow to go first, she realized, so her first word was now obsolete. Scout bit her bottom lip in contemplation, hearing Trevor shuffle through the silver bag of tiles. Her mind was on the game, or at least it was trying to be, when she heard him make the comment about the 'non-date' thing.She looked up at him in mild shock, hand that she had been propping herself up with nearly crumbling beneath her. He was about to tell her that it wasn't a date, that she'd been right all along, or that she should have never even thought it was a date. Did he have a girlfriend? Probably, knowing her luck. He probably thought she was weird and overbearing. "Mhmm..." Scout said in affirmation, tucking her hair behind her ear. Your move, he'd said. Maybe it was. Maybe she didn't have to wait for him to take the first step. Why couldn't it be her instead? Well, unless this wasn't a date and then she'd just be harassing him. No, it was safer and altogether more Scout-like to stick to the game beforehand, and play her next move there. She slid her letters above and below the 'U' he'd set down, spelling 'Queen'. "Thirteen points," she scrawled her number down on the notepad. Looking up at him meaningfully, Scout said, " Your turn."
Thatās exactly who I mean.Ā He nodded along.Ā Thatās what I heard as well. And Iāve been trying to get a hold of Birdie, because as far as Iāve heard she was in on a lot of the stuff he knew. If anyone has the insight on whatās going on, itās her. But the opportunity has yet to present itself.Ā He grinned at her.Ā Youāre like a mini reporter. Iām so proud.
I would appreciate that. You spend more time with everyone from that crowd. I start to get weird looks when I hang around teenagers for large parts of the day. Youāre the best, kid.Ā
Yeah, Birdie can only really be found when she wants to be found.Ā [She shook her head at him with a laugh.] No, no, I am a dancer. That is all. I don't know if I could survive in the dog-eat-dog world of reporting.
No problem. And yeah, maybe you should lay off the teenagers for a while before you get Creepy Older Guy status.
Me too.Ā
He gave her a slightly pointed look.Ā Iāve only been trying to get the scoop on that since they started with Ben and the incident at the school. But the police refuse to comment, and believe or not, no one really enjoys talking about their dead friends. I got a little something out of Prestonās daughter, but not much. Everything seems to lead to dead ends, and the people rumored to have a clue end up out of town or dead. Itās been an extremely frustrating process.
You mean like...Reid Castello? [She bit her lip.] Word on the street is he was putting together some huge pieces of that puzzle when he mysteriously died. That's why some people don't really think it was an overdose. I mean, c'mon...Reid knew his limits. But...a story's no good without any proof. You taught me that. Tell you what, I'll keep my eyes and ears open for you. When I'm not busy at the studio, of course. I really want to know what's been going on lately, and no one would be better at getting that story out there than you, Cole.
Iām on the hunt at the moment. So if you have any scandals youāve heard about, Iād love to hear them. Although, I might have stumbled across something. I just donāt know what yet.
Ooooh, that's pretty cool! Hope it pans out for you. Hey, what about all of the murders in town? Are any of you guys working on that?
