Tell me about the commander (scrap)?
HIIIIIIIIIIIII HI OMG OKAY UH (wall of text incoming)
Commander was once given the designation of Footsolider- they were essentially bottom of the barrel, super expendable in the military. (Link to stuff about what the military does and is fighting because that's a WHOLE other side tangent I won't get into)
They were well-liked and had a LOT of ambition- perfect recipe for climbing the ranks and getting promoted to Commander. They're very "for my comrades" in their approach, but are also power-hungry. They idolized Dominus, who leads the military, and wanted to get as close to or higher than Dominus as possible.
The higher-ups, the humans behind it all, did not like Commander. In order to snuff out the power of the people, they tasked Duke with creating a virus to infect Decommissioned- then designated as Marksman.
Marksman loses control over their actions in battle one day, turning their rifle on Commander and firing. Commander loses their arm, and in their haste to avoid being decimated by the enemy, they force stop any and all automatic recalibration efforts. Thus, their gyroscope is skewed from the loss of their arm's weight, and they become very unbalanced and clumsy.
Marksman is decommissioned and sent to the Scrapyard. Commander is honorably discharged from the military, given the status of Veteran, and sent on a tram to the city. There, they are technically expected to go to the Scrapyard, but ultimately they're on their own to do whatever they want.
They climbed from the bottom all the way to the top only to go crashing down to rock bottom again.
And now here's the kicker- here's the part I'm absolutely insane over:
Commander and Decommissioned are exes.
They were in love while Commander was climbing the ranks and had a very codependent almost-toxic relationship. So for Commander to be seemingly betrayed and mortally wounded by someone they love? And for that person to be completely unable to explain themselves?
Oh yeah. That hurts a lot.
Commander eventually makes it to the Scrapyard and reunites with Decommissioned. Decom does their best to explain but Comm is having none of it. They stubbornly refuse to accept Decom's apology and explanation, furthering the rift between them. Hurt and angry at Comm's dissmissal, Decom chooses to also stay mad and the two split up officially.
But here's the thing. Despite it all, despite everything, they still love each other. They can't stay away. They want what they used to have, they want to reconcile and be happy again. But neither party is willing to admit their faults, neither party is willing to fully and wholeheartedly apologize.
So the two remain in a fugue state of "You hurt me, I hurt you, I won't apologize until you do."
AAAAAA THEY MAKE ME INSANE
sorry this turned into a duo post but these two are so deeply tied to each other, neither of their stories are complete without the other. theyre two peas in a pod theyre soulmates they hate each other they cant get enough
