She pulled back the cover of her pip boy screen and looked at the time and map. It was still early in the day and the walk wasn’t too bad. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but do you want to go to the strip and check it out? Whatever happened out here might have started there. Plus I want to check up on some old faces on the way to make sure they are still kicking.” She looked down the highway.

Erickson thought about that for a bit. Yeah, things were very different, a bit too different. Sure, he was planning on taking another trip, but that can wait.

Vegas was very different than what it was a few months ago.

“Sure, things are real eerie right now. I wanna see what exactly is going on, now. With a lack of anyone with a real military threat, that means someone won this little war. But who?”

“Maybe it finally collapsed in on itself.” She grinned at the thought of that corrupted political machine finally turning into nothing but smoke.

“Wait, Securitrons? All the way out here?! That can’t be. The only time I ever saw them is in the New Vegas Strip. Sure they weren’t friendly all the time but I don’t think they would be walking around with fat mans either.”

“Oh, yeah. About 3 of them rolled by, going on their merry way. With missiles. I think someone did something to this place while we weren’t around, because things definitely don’t seem as tense as they were before.”

Well, it’s still the same hell-ridden world they live in, but there isn’t some kind of huge war on the horizon. It’s like that war ended.

Rattles barked and circled his legs, pressing his long body against them to be scratched and given attention. Pip rose over the steep incline moments later. “Hey. Yeah I noticed that too coming in from the outpost back south.” She jabbed a thumb behind her towards where she came. “I thought maybe they made a new stop somewhere along the highway but no. Not even any crucifixes so it can’t be Legion.”

“Did you get the feeling you were being watched by the way?” She cocked her head and gave another glance around for any snipers nests. Or possible places for a nest anyway.

Well, this can’t be normal. NCR leaving one camp could have been for a reinforcement reason, but multiple at once? They tend to keep to that ‘stretched out thin’ strategy normally.

“Alright, now I’m a bit weirded out. These scouts don’t just up and leave unless something big happened. Think someone had enough back west and made the government eat shit?”

And upon thinking about it, there has been a weird presence about lately, as if someone’s keeping eyes on everyone at all times.

“And yeah, now that you mention it. Methinks it has something to do with the sudden securitron patrol. Makes it even weirder since they looked armed to the teeth. They normally weren’t like that, right?”

“I can’t believe that god damn man dragged me out into the desert again…” Pip hissed bitterly to herself, keeping her arms close under her poncho. The sun was barely above the hills in the distance so it was a little chilly. Rattles followed besides her, sniffing everything that looked familiar. They walked this highway plenty of times but for some reason she felt like eyes were following her every move. Raiders? Animals? Who knew.

She passed by a sign high above from the past. “North- Primm next exit- Correctional facility” Erickson told her to meet there. Hopefully the NCR wasn’t still stationed there. Worthless soldiers doing nothing. Bah.

Rattles honed in on a very familiar scent and wagged his tail, darting off in its direction. She smiled a little at how cute he was and picked up the pace.

By pure shock, the soldiers were even gone from this location. Erickson stood where the NCR sentry that ‘welcomed’ people was supposed to be, kicking around a bit of dirt. Upon seeing the wanderer, Erickson gave a quick wave.

“Weird day, huh? The camp next to Primm is gone now. Heck, I haven’t seen a single boy scout for miles. Think something happened?”

Well, it would be hard for someone who hasn’t been up to speed on current events to realize that NCR and Legion had been effectively cleared out of the New Vegas territory. Sure, there might be the occasional NCR trader, but almost nothing out of that, anymore.

Several months is definitely a long time to just. Vanish. Even moreso in the wastes, since being gone for just one month can get a few people to assume you died.

Well, for the old grizzled merchant, death has yet to come to him. Not that he was looking for it, but few people his age tend to last long without being crafty.

However, what Erickson had been doing during that time is a story for another time. For now, he’s back in Nevada. Back in the Vegas territory.

And the notable lack of NCR or Legion is a new sight to behold, for sure.

And cue the random bit of securitrons armed with missiles passing by on their routine patrols.

“Okay... This is definitely not the Vegas I knew.” Erickson muttered to himself. But now is a new day.

He’ll figure out the details later. For now, it’s time to head to Primm and get stuff ready for another new trip. If he’s lucky, he’ll meet up with some old friends along the way.

I spend Christmas with my family, and I come back to this.

“What? I see no problem with this perfectly normal modified weapon.”

“Wow, with all these violent man-apes, I can make a killing with bodyguard contracts. I bet these ‘Minutemen’ could use a good gun at their side.”

“Glad to see that no place in this scorched continent is short on work.”

“So, what’s this thing going on? This ‘pegging’ shit? I swear, this blog or whatever shows me some weird stuff.”

“Good thing I picked up a holotape filled with ‘modern phrases’. I gotta thank Paul for that.”

“On second thought, I’m gonna need to punch someone.”

“Well, I think I’ve done quite a decent amount of work for the whole week.”

“I mean, I probably could have done more, but to gather so many resources is quite a hard job.”

“Or maybe I should put a bit more effort in what I do.”

“I think I’ll sleep on it.”
