SubwayArt | Pinboard | Chalkboard | Combo 

This EddieBauer Home picture frame / cork board combo was a gift from my wedding registry.   Back then,  EddieBauer had an extensive and amazing Home department and bridal registry.  This held wedding pics, invites and appointments for the longest, but now it just lacked it’s original appeal.  

Inspired by all of the subway art around the web, I dreamed up a piece that was sentimental, yet practical.  After sanding and painting the frame, I cut 1/4 inch MDF to fit the picture slots and painted them with black chalkboard craft paint.  A bit of black cotton duck canvas stapled to the cork board provided the perfect backdrop for my cross country subway cities.  

My husband’s from the Brew City; I’m from Detroit; he spent some years in Brooklyn Heights; and we fell in love there.  Atlanta is our current home, and Panama City Beach is our favorite yearly vaca get-away.  I had no fancy transfer paper, so I improvised with a simple Microsoft Word print out for each word, some chalk, a sharpie, and white acrylic craft paint mixed with a fabric medium.  I discovered (probably online somewhere) that if you cover the back of the paper with chalk, place it on your fabric, and then trace the words, you get a faint outline that you can then fill in!  Quite tedious.  But, tracing through the chalk outline with a thin black sharpie on the canvas allowed me to finish the hand painting in stages without worrying the chalk would rub off. 

In our entryway, this piece has been updated to once again allow us to pin invites and appointments, but now we can also jot notes for our weekly schedule, and enjoy our personalized subway art!

Toddler Sized | Rocking Chair | Remix 

Hey y'all!  How cute are these little guys!?!  I spied them randomly hanging out in the back of my Mr’s truck one day after some little lady didn’t have the heart to just leave these sweethearts at dump.  He will almost always inconvenience himself before hurting someone’s feelings.  Sweet I know.  So, Mr truly hoped I wouldn’t see them, and truly intended to just take them right back to the dump on his next trip… Let’s just say I’m sure there were times when he wished he’d never ran into that lady!!  Poor guy.

I knew they were not for our 3 rough and tumble boys, but definitely wanted to help them find a new amazing life somewhere.  Just a bit dated and dark, these 2 sweet peas in a pod were in otherwise perfect shape and ridiculously unique ~ most toddler sized rockers are all wood, or all fabric.  But this wood/fabric combo?!?  Rare indeed. 

 Well, 4 makeovers later, they finally had the timeless look I was going for! Cyndy over at TheCreativityExchange has an amazing chalk paint recipe that she posted back in 2012 that’s been my go to fav on furniture redos for a couple of years now.  Super simple, super effective, super resourceful.  I slightly distressed the paint, then topped it with a coat of Annie Sloane wax to protect the finish. 

 Though I am a huge fan of all things vintage, the too yellow, too 70ish vinyl had to go!  An unsuccessful fabric paint attempt lead me to removing 150,000 really rusty, really in there good staples!  But at least that allowed me to refresh and plump up the cushions quite a bit.  First, I tried a pink ombre denim I had on hand.  Too on trend.  Then a muted apple green denim. Too dull.  My sister kept urging me, “they need a hand painted whimsical giraffe or something!”  Although I love her confidence in my artistic ability, and implicitly trust her style vision, I just couldn’t make that work in my mind.  So I went with a -not so whimsical- cream polka dot on grey!  Then stitched up some fun pillows for color and a bit of interchangeable whimsy. 

Now to find them a home.  These cuties were quite a labor of love!  I was getting acutely attached to them and pretty particular about what kind of home they needed to live in.  But, a dear friend’s surprise baby bump, and subsequent zealous enthusiasm over my handy work, and a surprise baby shower, led me to finding them the perfect forever family.  2 sweet little chairs for one sweet baby girl: Welcome to the world baby Emma!

Rocking chairs and gliders are great for quiet moments with one beautiful baby on your lap. But quiet turns to confusion with baby #2 clamoring for your attention at the same time, and I assure you pure chaos by the time baby #3 comes!! (Not that I'm speaking from experience.) 😵😮 This bedroom scaled bench would be an amazing solution. You'd have room for baby on your lap and kiddos 1 & 2 snuggling on each side. #perfection
