i really don't see merc as a viable option for max anymore. with toto already talking about introducing team orders etc, how would that play out trying to have two dominant drivers in one team next season? I feel like increasingly merc are going to want someone who can play a second driver role for kimi unless kimi crashes out hard the second half of this season. i'm jumping back on the maxlaren delusional train bc I think with unfolding team dynamics it would make more sense

i can see why youd feel like that but imo (as much as it pains me to say this) toto is a very smart team principal in the sense that he understands that kimi is FAR too inexperienced to be the team leading first driver rn, he Needs both experience and also someone to directly learn from. cuz he is absolutely the future of merc for years to come

this imo is where max comes in, he would be an experienced driver who is not only used to being a team leader but is also a reliable driver who you can count on in every situation. he would be the perfect direct influence for kimi, providing a way for him to gain the easiest and best experience for his position as a future team leader

all the while providing merc with some of the best data and information about the car's performance on the grid.

plus at the end of the day, max and kimi would be like THE line up toto would ever want regardless of any logic
