so this year is my fourth year doing artfight(third participating), and i decided when i woke up this morning that i was curious what my art progress looked like though the lense of artfight and the attacks ive done in the years ive participated.
so my first year is pretty short annd basic, but good for where i remember my skillset being at the time;
Those are all my attacks my first year participating in ArtFight(Stardust/Seafoam). Every single one of them from that year. And tbh its about what I expected. If i tried i could probably go and dig up the bases i used as reference for the two humanoid drawings and compare if i really wanted to.
I used Gacha Club too, which im actually rlly happy to see there. There was a bit of time for like a year where i tried to completely avoid everything gacha in online spaces bc growing up playing/watching/even making characters on gacha was seen as super weird by my classmates, so i distanced myself from it.
Ive gotten back into it now and use it alot for reference on drawing hair at certain angles or making hairstyles for drawing (hair and styling is the DEATH of me oml) but seeing a bit of almost physical proof that I used it and was both proud enough and confident enough to post it publicaly on something like artfight is almost inspiring to look back on for some of the internal struggles im facing with my art now.
Also the gif with the warriors image was i think genuinely my first looping gif to just be a looping gif. I had done like frame-by-frame simple animation memes, but not a gif that was just a gif. so thats cool :D
My Second year of ArtFight was Fossils/Crystals. I did 6.5 times the amount of attacks i did the year before. Yes i did the math(technically its 6.571428..5....7..... you get the point). Last year i did completely different things than i did the previous year;
Theres a lot of Phighting there, isnt there? Yes, yes there is.
In December of 2024, one of my close friends introduced me to this silly little class-based 5v5 game on roblox called Phighting. This is when everything went downhill (/j) Very quickly after introducing me to Phighting and me asking questions about the story and lore and learning more about the game as a whole, i developed a hyperfixation. That is still going strong to this day. My favorite gays are my own characters in the Phighting universe(im sane, i promise)
I did a lot of art of Phighting OCs last year, since im pretty sure thats when the tag search was added, i just looked through the different versions of the phighting tag until i had a giant list lol
I put my ocs with a lot of other ocs too, mainly phighting of course, and some of the artpieces i did with them are still some of my favorites even right now - even if some of their designs are a little outdated...
I also did a ton of little headshot stickers last year for revenges and such, but stupid tumblr 30 image restriction so i had to leave some room for my this year attacks so i didnt grab any of the stickers to show :(
also i just really like the tweening i did for that last looping gif in this batch too, so i included it :D
And now, this years Artfight. Comedy/Tragedy/Mystery. Im hoping to come out for the third year in the row on the least populated team, but as much as i love my team mystery crew, i dont rlly think we're going to win and im just glad to be here lol (so many of my attacks are friendly fires its so funny but im almost kind of crying inside)
This year, just in the first two weeks so far, have been so fun. Ive been experimenting with so many more things and styles, and making adjustments to styles ive already made for myself and 'perfected' between this event and last, and my art has gotten so much faster in some ways that its kind of wild to me;

I feel like looking at just last years AF art versus some of this years so far theres a pretty obvious different in skill level/understanding here. And i mean that in the best way possible, looking at last years art of mine versus this years from an outside strangers perspective(while still being an artist) I would probably say that i wouldnt be completely sure if those images were made by the same person. I would believe you if oyu told me after looking at them first, but i dont think my knee-jerk reaction would be that they were the same single artist. And that is so weird to say about my own art. Cool, but weird.
In three out of the four images i was able to put here, i experimented with lighting in a way i sort of started to just before the event started.
In two of the four images, i experimented with backgrounds in ways i havent before(no, not the first one. that background is a pinterest image and you can fight me but i was not drawing a club stage and lighting just to put an image as my phone screen)
In ones of the images, i experimented with evironment and a scene in which i dont think i have ever tried in this way before.
All of those, and i am beyond proud of how they all came out. I even did completely lineless on the last one, and i genuinely dont think i could replicate it with a different character if i tried. It took six and a half hours. and i love it.
I cannot remember a single time in my life where i have been so happy, proud, and excited to draw and keep developing all these different styles before these last couple of months. I dont know what happened or what artistic switch in my brain flipped 'on' from 'off' but I am having so much fun with my art jounrey that i didnt really think i would have, and being able to look back and litterally see the difference in my art overtime like i did through artfight is just crazy.
TLDR; im really happy with my art progress and looking back on the journey through artfight made me think real hard

Realizing that my interpretation of Boombox is one where he will never truly be open, not until much further down the road,,, He considers himself someone who’s come from privilege and has never dealt with any real strife. “Being thrown off Splintered Skies wasn’t my traumatic incident, that was Skate’s!” He knew he had made the cut, he would’ve made it in… but he valued Skate more than some fancy floating island, so down he went. He has no regrets about that moment. The only reason he grew a fear of heights from that moment is because every time he can’t help but picture Skate falling and he has to grab onto him just to make sure he’s still right beside him. Skate was the one who was thrown off, he’s the one who’s worried he’s going to die every time they’re up high! Skate is the focus and he’s the one who should truly be worried about. Skate’s been through so much, and now he even holds the burden of protecting Craterdust on his back. Boombox shouldn’t add his own grievances onto that. Grievances that are honestly silly! That are so completely nothing compared to what everyone around him deals with! He’s a goofy musician that most everyone loves, one where his bad days only consist of being called annoyingly loud, and dealing with music block. Someone else’s bad day is conflict filled and at any point could end with death. Why in Inpherno would Boombox burden those around him with his nothing burger anxieties? In fact, out of anyone it should be him who should hold the burden!
So he does.
And he ignores his own needs, his own wants. He doesn’t need them, he lives such a happy life already. The others, his friends, it’s them who should given what they need and want.
So he’ll toss away every grievance and ignore how large the pile is growing, so he can become what they need and give them what they want.

Ive probably rambled about these two before but these are Disco(Yellow horns) and Wolf(blue horns). They are two of my phighting ocs who i adore dearly and theyre daring but like no one in the public knows at all bc they both have mysterious backstoriess oooo (not rlly they both just care about protecting the other too much to risk making them a target :P)
ive never really. animated like this before. like at all. the most animation ive done is silly little animation memes that are loops and kinda sorta basically tweening. I have never done this much movement before in an animation.
I am so very excited to continue and finish this omg I think it's actually going to look so good. I just hope it doesnt somehow burn me out before artfight bc I have so many ppl I want to attack omg there's so many pretty art out there from so many people its amazing.
also i made this on flipaclip. on my phone. and mostly while technically at work, but thats besides the point. and the 1-2am nights dont count either. it was technically the weekend.
