While the fates permit, live happily. Life speeds on with hurried step, and with winged days the wheel of the headlong year is turned.

Damn this was so cool lol this was so atmosphere and interesting. To me anyways. I never know if my readers find this stuff half as interesting as I do lmao. Don't mind me just appreciating my own writing:
There was a saying here: ‘Heaven is high, and the King is far away’. The Stars shone brightly yet were out of reach, offering no succour to the masses. The ruler is remote and aloof, uncaring toward their problems. Here, they had to pay tribute and receive little in return. A century ago, when the Hearkeners came, resisting them would've been tantamount to resisting the Vulow crown. The local rulers, appointed by Vulow, decided that less life would be lost if their way of life were to be lost, than if they started a war of secession.
Ever since then, Vulow had been careful to appoint leaders here that were pliable and easy to control. They knew the risks they had run during that incident and wanted to make sure any other such incidents would go similarly.
People here lived hard lives. Burdened by supporting a complicit upper class that didn't care, who then reported to a foreign government that really, really did not care.
Perhaps this was true everywhere, in some way or other. But the scars this land bore and the poverty that reigned throughout meant that it was more true here than in other places.

Giving award if you noticed the socks at the new sketch
She actually made a sock noticer award and tried to offer it to me but once I told her I hadn't noticed she threw it out the wall in a fit of rage
This isn’t true i would never offer an award before knowing for sure. It’s fair competition
