Depriving you of all comfort and softness save for a single teddy bear. Naturally you begin to bond with it. Bring it everywhere. It begins to be your only source of comfort. You talk to it when lonely. You cuddle it when hurt. It truly is you and Teddy against my cruel nature.
Eventually you earn a little more freedom and comfort. You manage to behave as I have instructed until I'm gone. Then you revert back. You still talk to the bear and bring it with you out of habit. It's the only real conversation you get. So you speak your mind.
Until one day. I come into the place I've hidden you. Phone in hand, I press play on a video. You recognize your voice. Worst yet you recognize the words. It was one of your venting sessions to Teddy. Telling him all about how much you hate being trapped and that I make you do such stupid things. The blood in your veins freeze. I've hurt you for far less. I've broken you totally. You'd just earned a proper bed...
All these thoughts race through your mind until you hear a ripping sound. You look at the source to find me standing there, with your beloved Teddy... or what's left of him anyway. He's now in pieces as I tear him up piece by piece. You feel stupid as your eyes begin to water and you scream for me to stop. Anything to save Teddy. It's so stupid. You're an adult. But you just can't help it. He was your anchor, your rock throughout this ordeal. And now he's being hurt for your mistakes.
Luckily I stop at this point and toss your precious bear back at you. Torn in two pieces your heart breaks. You mourn Teddy for days to come but noticeably your behavior is much improved. There's no more insulting me behind closed doors. No more changes in behavior. You're being a good girl and I tell you as much.
One day after a particularly impressive bout of good behavior you wake up to a present. Naturally you open it to find Teddy. Lovingly repaired and restored to his former glory. A reminder to behave.
