Types of Erotic/Kinky Hypnosis Play – A Rough (or Gentle) Starter List…

I wrote this for our local Chicago hypno kink group, The Mesmer Group, to help introduce newcomers to our kink, but I figured it might be of interest to others and start some interesting conversations and discussions.

I've been half-thinking about these topics for years, but only started writing them down recently, so this is a very rough, first-thoughts list -- I'm wide open to others helping add to, correct, enhance, or otherwise improve this starter list.

Over the years people new to erotic hypnosis have asked, “What is it, and what do you DO with it?” and it’s gotten me thinking about some VERY general, broad-stroke ways we might start to present the possibilities.

This is, of course, a very personally subjective starting point, and open to endless discussion, adjustment, and editing. Naturally my own tastes and experiences led the way – I’ve tried to include as many types and examples as I could think of, but I know there’s plenty I don’t know, and types of play I’m much less familiar with. And probably some whole areas I’ve completely overlooked.

On any given day, imaginative, creative hypno-kinksters are coming up with new and exciting ways of exploring and playing that don’t fit neatly into these simple categories below – and these ad hoc categories themselves are open to interpretation, evolution, change, even removal and replacement. Also there are tons of ideas and examples that will fall under several categories – it’s all very fluid and flexible. If you see ways this core list of 10 categories could be changed or improved, please let me know.

Not everything below is recommended for beginning hypno explorers -- some of it is very advanced in technique, risk, or both. And obviously, as hypno kinksters, everything we do should be safely negotiated and consensual under SSC, RACK, or whatever consent and safety paradigm you and your play partners adhere to.

SOME TYPES OF EROTIC HYPNOSIS PLAY

Body / Physical Effects

Physical and sensory manipulation; physical arousal; sensitivity or numbing of body parts; manipulation or control or creation of erogenous zones; tickling, vibrations, pain, pleasure, shocks, invisible touching; sensual connection; sensory deprivation or heightening; freezing; breath play; drug play; massages; adding, enhancing, augmenting body parts; Hands Free Orgasms; and so much more…

Mind / Mental Effects

Amnesia and memory play (could honestly have its own whole separate category); IQ play, including reduction and enhancement; creating new fetishes; creating fixations or obsessions; personality changes; lowered inhibitions or increased exhibitionism; altered perceptions; confusion; mental arousal or desires; Hands Free Orgasms (again, everywhere!).

Emotional Effects

Creating or enhancing strong emotions such as love, hate, fear, joy, etc. Deepening (or weakening) emotional connections. Obviously, this category flows through nearly every other category.

Transformation play

Personality changes (including lowered inhibitions or “slut/stud”); corruption and innocence; turned into a doll, toy, bimbo, animal, robot, drone, etc; turned into inanimate object, including clothing or furniture or rock, tree, water; feminization, masculinization, sissification, butchification; age regression.

BDSM

Heightening, enhancing, or controlling physical BDSM play, used in conjunction with physical BDSM toys and tools; or creating BDSM-related physical sensations entirely in the mind without actual physical tools; bondage, rope, impact, sharps; heat, shock; creating, enhancing, or intensifying feelings of submission or dominance (or rapidly switching between the two); service play, including pet and pony play.

Control

Could be folded into BDSM under Dominance: controlling a partner physically, mentally, and/or emotionally, with things like restrictions, compulsions, triggers (post-hypnotic suggestions), mantras. Includes removal of will, increasing obedience, worship, limiting behavior or options. Controlling someone with a remote, music or sounds, pieces of clothing or accessories. Also could include consensual non-consent (CNC) play.

Role playing or storytelling

Creating fictional scenarios and characters to act out fantasies covering nearly everything imaginable. Common examples include things like historical, fantasy, science fiction, workplace, classroom, domestic, religious scenarios; service (maid, butler, admin assistant, etc); rituals, vampires, monsters, demonic possession, cults; science or medical experiments; kidnapping and interrogation scenes. Can also include the creation of mental storytelling “journeys” that involve taking a subject on an erotic journey of the mind into alternate worlds.

Edge play

A catch-all for various types of play from other categories, pushed to extremes. Might include brainwashing, total mind erasure, gaslighting, love/hate play, hardcore interrogation and torture. Also might include things like intense fear play, pain play, and body horror involving physical extremes (legally) possible only through hypnosis.

Energy play

I’m not as knowledgeable about this type of play, but I wanted to include the category to encourage others to share their experiences and examples. Could include the exchange, boosting, altering, sharing, or even siphoning of erotic life or soul energy. I welcome better, more informed or more specific examples.

Relaxation

While possibly still erotic, focusing more on states like bliss, blank and mindless, body relaxation, melting or empty mind, etc – sort of a mental “spa treatment.”

I’mma warn ya, @dreamykittenn… this is going to be a lot of “I don’t really have an answer for that” or “nunya, that’s private sexy stuff” or long-winded explanations about why I don’t do or care as much about these things anymore, lol…

17. What are some post-hypnotic suggestions you particularly enjoy (for others or yourself)?

I get why people ask this. They want ideas, or they want to voyeuristically groove on stuff other people do… But…

When I first started playing around a decade ago, I’d go way way out of my way to come up with really clever, creative, “oooh” post-hypnotic suggestions and triggers. For as much as the EH community lately generally poo-poos (the legal term) Stage Hypnosis for having different consent norms, there’s still a large element of EH community play that centers around very Stage Hypnosis-y “haha” trigger play – we all know the kind: triggers that are meant to be kinda funny and shocking and silly, for show-offy entertainment as much as sexytime.

I get that, and I still occasionally enjoy that sort of trigger, especially at a con or event where there’s that playful, exhibitionist, show-offy vibe in public settings.

But when it comes to my private, intimate, sexy play, I find that over the years, I don’t go in as much for elaborate, unique, clever and sometimes overly-complicated triggers or suggestions. In private, my partner and I aren’t there to see how creative we can be or how funny or shocking a trigger is. We’re there to have sexytime fun just with each other in private. To that end, sorry, those kinds of triggers shall remain private, but I will say most of them are used not to elicit some complicated chain of actions or reactions, but simply to put a play partner into or reinforce a different, sexy state of mind, such as doll or toy headspace play.

That said, sometimes partners and I want to play around with some CNC type triggers that use memory play to “hide” the trigger, so that the partner is responding to a trigger they aren’t consciously aware they have and acting in ways they can’t quite explain. Again, I mostly use those for very sexual, intimate behaviors that remain behind the Giant Nunya Door, lol.

So how’s that for a long, rambling non-answer? Get used to ‘em today! lol

18. Describe your best experience involving hypnosis

Again, I know what this question wants to hear about, lol… and I’m not going to share it.

I really do admire and appreciate those amazing folks in our community who are open and explicit and so very hot in sharing the intimate details of some of their hottest hypno play experiences. But I’ve learned over the years that as much as I sometimes wish that was me, it’s not me. Partly because deep down at heart, I’m still kind of a shy rural smalltown guy who sometimes blushes about sharing sexy sex sex stuff publicly – I’ll talk VERY openly ABOUT sex topics, but tend to shy away from sharing with strangers specific details from my own sex life.

It causes minor internal conflicts for me because I’ve always been a pretty show-offy, attention-seeking, storytelling kind of person, and for the past few years I’ve found myself immersed in and self-valuing from an online community where some of the social currency and attention and popularity is garnered from sharing stories about SEX STUFF.

But also because one thing being in the hypno kink community has taught me over the years is to really respect and protect other people’s privacy. My “best” hypno experiences always involve someone else, and the best of the best experiences involve very private, intimate things with someone else.

Even if I’m as vague as possible about a specific type of erotic play or a singular hypno moment, there could be someone who reads this and says, “Oh god, that was with ME.” And while some folks and friends and current or former play partners might really enjoy reading that vague sexual reference to themselves in a public forum, quite a few would not feel entirely comfortable with it. Including myself, lol.

So yeah, my BEST hypno experiences have usually been in private, in the bed room, involving doing really deep, hot, sexual things with close, intimate, trusted partners.

But on the PG-13 side of things, some of my best PUBLIC hypno experiences have been just hanging out with friends on a call or at a con and goofing around, improvising, coming up with new, fun, silly ideas as a group. Dating back to my first-ever hypno con I talked about in a previous ask below, I love coming up with and testing out new fun hypno ideas in a public group, and the entertainer in me loves performing and showing them off. I like playing with props (like a half empty water bottle at the most recent NEEHU) or a silly kernel of an idea and improvising and spinning it off into all sorts of new fun silly (maybe a little sexy) hypno tricks.

Also, some of your “best” hypno experiences are likely to be your “firsts”–the first time you Did A Thing or first time It Worked. I have a few of those moments from that first MEEHU five years ago–for example, the first time, toward the end of that confidence-building hypno weekend, I instantly dropped two people at once in person with just a snap of the finger or push on the forehead. Or, from that same first MEEHU, the first real HypnoEgg Super Battle, that had the whole room watching and cheering. Those were huge exciting moments in my personal Hypno Mythology :)

19. Describe a bad experience you had involving hypnosis? Why was it bad? Why did it go wrong?

I consider myself very very lucky that I’ve never had anything really bad happen or go wrong during hypno play, knock wood.

I have had hypno play that afterwards my play partner gave feedback that some part of it wasn’t entirely comfortable for them. I’ve had partners who were relatively new to erotic hypno play feel embarrassed afterwards about some of the things we did. I’ve had abreactions from a play partner when memory play CNC commands worked too well and freaked them out a bit because they genuinely did not know why they were doing or saying certain things. I’ve had scenes that I did not do a good job of fully negotiating in advance that did not cause problems for the subject or ruin the scene, but that the subject rightfully and helpfully pointed out later should have been better negotiated.

In all those situations, I was lucky enough to have good partners and subjects who felt comfortable and safe communicating any issues to me during or after, and we talked openly about the things, and I learned and noted some important lessons.

From a skills standpoint, I do have one moment I remember well from a few years ago – the first time I tried to hypnotize in public someone completely new to hypnosis, never had any huge interest in it, had never been in a hypnotic trance. And I just BIFFED it. Fumbled, didn’t have a solid plan or technique. I’d been trancing lots and lots of folks over the years, but they were mostly experienced subjects, or at least people really interested and eager to trance. But in this case, my first attempt at “street” hypnosis, I was woefully unprepared. It was in public with an audience watching, I was rushed and nervous, and needless to say, the person did not go into any sort of trance state. I felt like a failure, I felt like I’d bumped up against my stark limitations, and it rattled my confidence for a bit. (Not about trancing play partners – I was still able to do that as usual – but about trancing “strangers.”)But this past year, I’ve been helping co-lead a new, wonderful Chicago hypnosis group (Chicago Mesmer Group – check us out on Fet if you’re in the area!), and because we have a lot of new, curious but inexperienced folks attending from both sides of the watch, I’ve had a fantastic opportunity to teach budding new hypnotists structured techniques like the Ellman Induction – which meant really LEARNING the Ellman Induction myself.

I had never gone in much for formal, structured inductions – like many of us, I started with progressive relaxation and then just sort of improvised my own induction style over the years. But teaching and learning the Ellman has been great because it is a very structured, formatted, standard starting place, and it usually gets good results. (My hypno Ellman experience was similar to my relationship with Shakespeare – I “studied” a lot of Shakespeare in college, but didn’t really “get” it until I had to teach it to students later as a educator. Nothing teaches you something better than having to teach it.)

The new group has also meant that there have been a lot of opportunities recently to trance newcomers who have never tranced before. And I’ve been thrilled to discover that, using something like Ellman or a variation on it, I’ve had great success giving new folks their first-ever hypnotic trances.

Yay for learning and growing and moving past failures and stuff!

32. Describe your biggest fantasy involving hypnosis?

Hahahaha….  NOPE.

I’ve been fortunate enough over the past decade to actually live and play out some of my hottest erotic hypno fantasies – in ways I could not have possibly imagined 30, 20, even 10 years ago. And I’m continually exploring new fantasies. And yes, I do have some deep, hot fantasies I’ve never fully explored. But I’m not gonna share them here, lol. My Tumblr exhibitionism and need for attention has its limits.

33. Do you have any fantasies about non-consensual hypnosis? Describe them

Oh yes I do, very much so. As I’ve said in other answers, the majority of my fetish centers around non-consensual Mind Control fantasies, where the heat for me is in the slow, resisted but uncontrollable transformation or corruption. The hottest part of any hypno or mind control erotica for me is always the “middle ground” where the subject/victim hasn’t yet completely surrendered and succumbed, and doesn’t know what’s happening to them or why they’re thinking feeling and behaving a certain (sexual, uninhibited, lustful) way. The hottest lines for me were always,  “Oh god, why am I doing this? Why can’t I stop myself? Why does it feel so good?!”

However, I’ve found that I don’t usually go in for too much theatrical or archly artificial role-play in my kink scenes. I don’t want us to pretend like and have to act out that we’re completely different characters in a story. I want us to be us–only altered, transformed, and controlled. That can make deeper CNC play a little trickier, more complicated, and more labor-intensive with real hypnosis. (I used to co-teach a class at cons called Mind Control Fantasy vs. Hypno Reality.)

I’ve yet to find the perfect dynamic and balance in real play that lets my partner completely forget they have consented to darker CNC hypno play in a way that feels realistic and gets at that sweet, delicious middle space, and doesn’t require them to do a lot of heavy, distracting “acting.” The trick is how to make someone you are very sexually intimate with “forget” that, and maybe forget that they know you in that way, so they react with shock and embarrassment at what they’re doing – without it all feeling really contrived and artificially “acted.” But I’m always working at it and getting closer!

22, 42, and (ha)...45. Maybe focusing on your first for 45?

Hiya!

22. Do you like your hypnosis to involve power exchange, or not?

Ha! This is a funny one, because a few years ago I was really hung up on feeling like a relative “vanilla” person in a very BDSM and D/s kinky community.

There were a lot of reasons for this, but one was simply that traditional BDSM folks a) are often more comfortable attending events and cons, and b) have all those neat and intimidating toys! Standard BDSM kink tends to dominate the room – pun only slightly intended. They have whips and floggers and paddles and rope and fire and needles and restraints and crosses and tables and collars and leashes! And if your kink tends to be more just about hypnosis and mind control, you have… um, a little crystal? a pocket watch? some spiral gifs on your phone? I mean, we do a lot of our play in the mind!

I had some great chats online and in person with “BDSM” and “non-BDSM” folks about this, and over the years I’ve become much more comfortable with and even dabbled a bit in things like bondage and impact play and pain play, and sometimes with more formalized protocols of submission. Still, I don’t ever think of myself as a “dom” or “master,” though I’ve learned it can be hot to be called “sir” by the right people in the right contexts, lol.

Mainly, I’ve just never cared much for formalized rules. I know, that sounds like, “oh I’m a rebel, baby!” self-aggrandizing, lol. I just don’t like having to memorize and follow strict or ritualized protocols, for me or my play partner. (This doesn’t just apply to kink – it’s why I’ve always struggled with things like languages, math, even grammar – they all to some extent require memorization of and adherence to sets of rules.)

Which means I don’t usually go in for what most would consider formal or protocol D/s play. THAT SAID… as with nearly EVERYTHING in kink and hypno kink, if the right partner is into those things, that makes it HOT for me, and I’m very likely to give it a try or at least temporarily learn and immerse myself in those protocols or formalized roles and types of play. And I often find I enjoy them, even if they don’t directly ping my Kink Center.

(On the other hand, I usually roll my eyes and choke back scoffs when I see toppy folks in and outside our community – usually the online-only, younger types– who seem ONLY able to see erotic hypnosis as “master/mistress-slave” dynamics and walk around asking each other “how many slaves do you have?” before bragging about their own numbers. It’s totally fine if that’s what EH means to you, but what bugs me sometimes is the automatic assumption that that’s ALL it is, what it is to everyone.)

Point is, part of my hypno kink journey as a hypnotist and mind-control fetishist has involved embracing the obvious: that while I may not think of myself as a “BDSM or D/s” guy, my kink, my fetish IS absolutely usually about a power exchange, about controlling someone, bending them to my will, making them do what I want (which is always what they want and what we’ve negotiated out ahead of time).

After all, I can’t really deny being pretty damn toppy when I wrote this yesterday in response to another question:

“What do you love about hypnotising people?

…seeing them lose their own control and surrender and fall under mine… blank and mindless and ready and waiting for me to take over their thoughts and desires.”

So yeah, there’s that. Definite power exchange.

42. Which famous person do you think has the most hypnotic voice?

We’ve decided for now it’s Orson Welles! See my previous answer below!

45. Have you ever been to a hypnosis convention? Did you enjoy it, or not? Why?

Why yes, yes I have, 12 of them in fact! With numbers 13 and 14 coming up this summer and hopefully number 15 this fall. Plus, over the years, 3-4 other, smaller weekend hypno gatherings with groups of 10-20 kinksters in a rented house somewhere.

I guess I must enjoy them, since I keep going, lol. And many of you have heard my preacher’s spiel about the value and fun (and challenges) of going to cons, etc.

But actually, I’ve learned that nearly every con can be a different kind of experience for me. If I attend with a play partner, that’s a whole different dynamic than if I go alone. Some cons I attend wanting to focus on learning and practicing the craft and picking up new skills. Others I teach or host a lot of classes or discussions. Some cons I just want to go see and catch up and hang out with good friends. Some cons I do a LOT of hypnosis, all day and night. Some cons I go almost the entire weekend without trancing anyone. Some cons I have private sexy play time. Some cons I don’t at all. Most cons I host parties in my room when I can. Every con anymore, I show up with boxes and envelopes full of little paper Hypno Scout badge stickers, lol.

Sometimes I go to a con knowing a lot of my good friends will be there and we’ll have a sort of automatic, default group to hang with. Sometimes I go to cons not really knowing who will be there or I go without some of the Usual Crew. For example, this past NEEHU in March, I went hoping to simply spend more time in public hangout places, chatting, meeting new folks, making new friends, catching up with some folks who I’ve known a while but haven’t had a chance to really hang out with at recent cons. (Everyone is busy, everyone has their own agendas and plans!) So that was really, really nice for me – plus I did some hypno, too, which is always good!

But you asked about my first con! You always remember your first!

It was the very first MEEHU outside Chicago (my home city), 5 years ago, summer of 2014.

Like many of us going to our first-ever kinky thing, I was terrified. I’d barely ever been in the same meatspace with another kinkster who knew I was kinky, and as closeted and small-town faux-vanilla as I was at the time, the idea of that MORTIFIED me.

But I knew I had to get over my fear and go; that if I really wanted to Do This Thing, I’d have to eventually log off from online, get out of the chatrooms and get face to face with my fellow kinksters, my play partners, and my own sense of self as a kinkster. Plus, it was right in my backyard, figuratively. I had no excuse not to go.

Luckily, I also had @fayvie, who I’d been playing with online for months and who REALLY wanted to go, and who gets ALL the credit for pushing and pulling me out of my fear bubble and almost literally dragging me out to the Chicago ‘burbs and into the hotel lobby. (”OMG these hotel clerks will KNOW I’m a weirdo freaky pervert KINKSTER!!”)

But once I got out of my own room and on to the convention floor (everything was on one floor, including class and play rooms), my social survival skills kicked in, and I started chatting with folks I knew from Hypbook chatrooms, putting faces to names, etc.

I remember there were some bumps and awkward moments, but for the most part, I had a fantastic weekend with Fayvie and DJ Pynchon, and Lee Allure and many others. We made up games (HypnoEgg was born!), tranced around a lot, had an amazing time, and by the end Monday afternoon, I felt both a giant exhale at having taken and gotten past that first huge step into the in-person community, and a huge sense of excitement over where things would go next.

And over the next five years and 12 cons we’ve had all kinds of ups and downs, challenges and changes, but I can honestly say I’ve rarely had a fully bad con – whatever the vibe, whomever the people, whatever I go looking for, find or don’t find at a particular con, I always come out feeling I got something from the experience.

Those who know me know that I can be a little… um… grumpy… And often in the weeks before a con, I’m grumping, making Scouts badges, grousing about not really feeling like going… but I always go…  and I always come out the other side on Mondays so glad I did, so happy to have seen so many folks and friends again, and rejuvenated and re-energized about doing the hypno kinking.

21. Do you have any tips for how to negotiate hypnosis play?

Nope! lol

Honestly, I’ve never been much of a formal play negotiator – I tend to be very loose and improvisational. And usually I tend to mostly play with people I know fairly well, so we hopefully have good communication.

However, lately I have been doing a little more “pick-up” type play at parties and cons, and I’ve learned that I do need to improve my “pick-up” negotiation skills, for when I’m playing with someone I don’t really know. I still have things to learn on that front to make sure I’m fully covering all bases.

When I’m with a play partner or starting to work with someone who could be a potential play partner, my “negotiation” tends to be more informal – I try to get to know them, talk about likes and dislikes, get a sense of their style and interests, and then proceed somewhat slowly, communicating all the way, getting feedback, backing off things they don’t care for, asking what they like or would like to try.

In pick-up play, the dynamic is very different – I may not know them all that well, I may only have a vague idea what they’re interested (presumably something I’m interested in, or we wouldn’t be negotiating some sort of play.) That’s where I need to practice more. Knowing what to ask about; physical and thematic limits, levels of eroticism in the play; touch, sexual touch; laying out all parts of the scene – the whole checklist.

I guess my main advice, to myself as well, is to ask a LOT of questions and stress open communication before, during, and after, in case you didn’t think to ask the right questions.

I know others in the community place a much higher focus on a more structured, formalized negotiation, and I think those outlines and guidelines are important to know. I do sometimes wonder how successfully we can fully categorize and enumerate and plan for human behavior –  it doesn’t fit neatly in spreadsheets. But while I don’t think we can fully plan out and program all our sexy and play interactions, I respect the effort, the attention to safety, and appreciate the guidelines.

That said, I still put more of my faith in creating a rapport that lets both sides feel open and okay about communicating and respecting likes and dislikes before, during and after play, even if we find out we failed to fully cover all angles in a formal negotiation. But as I start to do a little more causal pick-up play at events with people I don’t know as well, I know I need to continue to work on my formal negotiation skills.

42. Which famous person do you think has the most hypnotic voice?

I can’t tell you how much I’ve thought about this the past day, knowing someone would ask it, lol! And I still don’t feel I have the perfect answer.

I mean, yeah, all the usual, cliche choices – male types with deep resonant voices, women with silky seductive voices, etc.

But I keep coming back to a really obvious, super tropey choice: Orson Welles.

Welles was a hobbyist magician and a real hypnotist, but you can see how he used both those skills throughout his career as a film director and actor. He came to see film making as both a magic trick played on the audience as wellas a hypnotic seduction of them.

I suspect there’s a whole older generation of male hypnotists – especially stage hypnotists – who at one point or another used Welles as their role model. The deep, seductive, sonorous voice; the stage actor’s booming projection; the arrogant air of authority; the playful “trust me… but don’t fully trust” tone.

Plus I just had a dream the other night with Welles in it. Yeah, that’s right, I’m the kind of person who has dreams about Orson Welles.

So Welles it is!

44. Have you ever used hypnotic conditioning to help you or someone else with a part of your/their life?

Yes and no, lol.

First off we all know and preach, as amateur, hobbyist, recreational and erotic hypnotists, do NOT try to perform therapy on your sexy play partners. Nope, no, don’t do it. Don’t try to “fix” people or their problems.

However, those lines can get a little blurry around some of the edges.

After all, erotic hypnotic play itself is, by some definitions, a form of therapy or release or relief. We may do it because it feels good and hot and sexy in the moment, but also because we often – on both sides of the watch – feel more relaxed and chill and focused afterwards.

I think the areas where some of us may dabble a bit tend to be not around problems or broken emotional things, but more general topics like motivation, productivity, focus and concentration, or just feeling more energized and positive about your day.

I don’t do “conditioning” in those areas, but if I know a play partner is stressed about something coming up (a test, a performance, an interview, etc.) or just having trouble slowing their thoughts and worries down enough to maybe be productive or to sleep well before a big day, I will sometimes help them relax and visualize and internalize ideas or feelings that may benefit them.

When studying for a test, I might help them visualize memory metaphors and boost concentration and retention, try to help them relax and organize their mind and memory so that recall and understanding comes more clearly and easily. It’s not conditioning or programming, it’s just helping them form some mental metaphors that might help them out.

Or if it’s the last trance of the play session, and we’re both heading back to busy RL and work or whatever, I might close the trance out with something generic along the lines of, “waking and feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, finding it easy to focus and concentrate and be as productive today as you need or want to be.”

Or, if it’s time for bed, something similar, only with a focus on feeling relaxed and ready for bed and sleep whenever it’s time.

With something like diet or exercise or healthy self-improvement, I’m much more reluctant anymore to try to specifically help boost those efforts, but I might generally help encourage them make the better, maybe healthier choices they want to make, without going into any specifics about foods or exercise.

Most of our lives are spent getting in our own way in our heads. I don’t want to do  “therapy” on anyone or condition or program someone to practice self-betterment–I don’t want to create compulsions or commands in those areas. But if I can help more generally with supporting someone’s own efforts and desires, to simply help them with a motivational nudge toward a general idea of what they already want to do, I think that’s okay in some cases.

But again, I don’t make a practice of this sort of thing – I’m mostly here for the sexy times. And if I do offer up a bit of hypno motivation, it’s only with people I know well and have been playing with a while.

7. What do you love about hypnotising people?

For me it’s watching them get lost in it, consumed by it – seeing them lose their own control and surrender and fall under mine – that point at which they can’t help themselves. If there’s a bit of struggle and surprise in there, some “oh god, what’s happening to me,” then all the better. Also, as someone who kinks on transformation, the heat for me is in the contrast of states – a few minutes earlier they were awake and chatting normally… now they’re blank and mindless and ready and waiting for me to take over their thoughts and desires.

And on some level that’s what erotic hypnotism is to me: a tool, a process, a means or pathway to my partner and I doing really hot, sexy things together. I don’t kink as directly on the hypnosis process as some – for me, when playing, the induction and trance state are means to an end: my erotic mind control fantasies. But over the years of in-person experience, I’ve come to appreciate the simple trance state itself. In part because it’s the tool I use to play, but also for just the perfect, still, deep sensual beauty of it.

9. How do you feel when you hypnotise someone else?

If it’s a non-erotic situation, then a sense of accomplishment – like hitting a baseball, throwing a bullseye, making a basket… Or throwing clay on a wheel and watching it form a bowl. A feeling of “Oh hey, I did that.”

If it is an erotic situation, then, well, turned on, duh. And the sense of accomplishment becomes more about the feeling of power and control – my words wrapping around their thoughts, or my touch or gestures guiding them and then my soaking in their responses.

20. What’s one tip you have for other hypnotists/subjects?

COMMUNICATE. If you’re shy or awkward or hesitant to speak openly about kink and hypno things and stuff, do what you can to get over that. Nudge yourself along into increasingly daunting communication situations. Work at getting over embarrassment or awkwardness in talking about kink and sex things.

Talk to each other, get to know each other, listen to each other. Express what you like and want, what you don’t. Build rapport and trust. Nothing in life is ever going to be 100% perfect or safe or always comfortable. But if you can TALK to your play partners openly and honestly and feel they’re LISTENING to you and you to them, then it’s so much better and easier to work through challenges or issues or mistakes that may come up during erotic hypnotic play.

For Tists – Find hypnotists you like and whom others seem to find effective (especially your own play partners, if applicable), watch their videos, listen to their files, print out transcripts of their language to pour over and study. Become a human hypno-sponge and soak up anything and everything that seems to work and/or that you think is cool. Being an effective hypnotist is a lot about confidence – making your subjects feel you can do it and that they can do it. You build confidence by having incremental successes. You can help those successes happen by feeling as secure as possible about what you’re doing. You get secure by practicing, repeating, memorizing, internalizing–learn it all so well that you can forget it and just fall back on muscle memory most of the time.

I do 87% more little paper sticker arts and crafts these days than at any other point in my life.

Hey look everyone, it’s @fayvie!

46. How has being involved with hypnosis/the hypno community improved your life?

I was just thinking and chatting about this recently!

As others can attest, this is a different question for someone in the 40s or 50s than for someone in their 20s or 30s.

For me, despite developing MC and hypno fetishes in adolescence, I was completely closeted and isolated in my fetish for about the first 40-some years of my life. So I can draw much brighter, stronger lines at the points where I a) first found hypno communities online, b) first interacted with other kinksters online, c) attended my first in-person events and Did the Kinky Thing In Person. (I’d never even approached it in private with intimate partners before.) (And of course, Fayvie was the key player in that in-person leap.) d) Became involved enough in the community and cons and local events that I started to feel like “a kink person.”

And I struggled with that some these past few years – with cons and classes and  badges and plans and trips and stuff filling up so much of my free time now, I started to ask myself, “Is this who I am now? Is this who I want to be? A ‘kink guy’?”

I still don’t have an answer to that part of it, but in thinking and talking about all this recently, I realized that getting out and getting into my fetishes has in some ways made me a better person. I hope.

For starters, there’s the standard answer: I feel more free, more open about who I am, I get to explore and indulge something that has been a big part of my psyche for decades, it’s not bottled up, and of course, it’s very hot and very fun.

And, at a point in life when it’s easy to feel your friend group slowly whittled down by life (and yes, death), by lifestyle changes, geographic relocations, and by different priorities, it’s been wonderful over the past decade to meet and make a whole bunch of terrific new friends, some of whom I’ve become very close to, not just as kinksters or partners, but as just old fashioned Good Human Beings and Life-long Friends.

But one thing I’ve been especially thinking about lately is how exploring and expressing my various toppy control and corruption and humiliation and objectification fetish fantasies in fun, sexy ways with terrific consenting partners has hopefully helped me be a slightly better person outside the kink con or bedroom.

My MC fantasies are often about corruption, transformation, and control, often involving some variation of dollification, bimbofication, etc. And as super hot and sexy fun as those things are to play with, when they were bottled up in my head for decades with no interactive outlet, only erotica and porn, I can’t help but feel they rotted inside me and poisoned me some.

I know I’m pretty fucking far from perfect, but I do feel that kinky guy me today, the guy who plays out his darker fantasies with consenting partners in safe, temporary play spaces is maybe less passive aggressively repressed unconsciously sexist and misanthropic (and neurotic) than I was a decade or so ago before I started wading into the hypno community and Doing the Thing For Real with Real People.

47. What is one thing about the hypnosis community you think could change for the better?

Heh. This is Pure Fayvie – pull the pin on the grenade and then dance off!

The one thing I know today that maybe I didn’t know a few years ago is that I CANNOT change the hypno community for the better, lol.

I gave up trying, and in part because I had to learn that I was always probably part of the problem. I’ve never been perfect, I’ve learned a lot about a lot of things and myself since joining the community and have worked to improve.

One thing I came into the community wanting to do was to help make it more open and welcoming for people like myself a decade ago who do NOT necessarily initially identify themselves as “kinky.” Who may think of themselves as fairly “vanilla.” Who may not even be AWARE that they even HAVE a fetish – just that there are some interesting things (in our case, about hypnosis or mind control) that makes them feel kinda funny inside in a weird but neat way. I wanted to expand community outreach, to make events welcoming to people who may not initially feel comfortable going to a “kink” event, let alone one in a local dungeon.

Maybe HypnoScout badges are a small silly way of doing that. Maybe so is hosting room parties at cons. I don’t know. But I know it’s not enough, and I know I’ve stopped trying to push for change at the upper levels and just focus on trying to be kind and welcoming at the ground level.

That said, I’ve written some sort of further response about a half dozen times now about things and attitudes I think are currently problematic, toxic, and destructive in our community, and each time I end up deleting it. Sorry, lol, but that’s a much bigger, thornier, more complex issue than I could tackle here. Maybe some day. Or someone can just buy me a drink at a con sometimes and get me rolling on the topic ;)

11. What’s your ‘signature move’ as a hypnotist?

My signature move is being too lazy to have a signature move.

To that end, I tend to snap my fingers a lot. Gets right to the point.

Also, anyone who plays with me knows I often ask, “Wanna see something neat?” which means I’ve just thought of something devious and sexy I want to try on them. I say it so much it becomes kind of a lame tropey joke with me.

27. What’s your favourite work of hypnosis erotica?

I should just rattle off a few old EMCSA stories from 20 years ago that I found really hot at the time, but of course I can’t just do that…

I just don’t read much hypno erotica anymore. *sputter gasp* I know, I know…  I have so many good friends who write amazing stuff, but it’s just not my go-to thing these days. Probably because the Internet and social media have rotted my attention span.

But also maybe because–and this is just a dumb-ass theory I’m making up right now–reading and looking at a lot of hypno erotica was a huge important stage in my kinky journey, but one I may have moved on from these days. These days I’m incredibly lucky enough to be able to attend a lot of hypno kink events like cons, local group munches and classes, weekend getaways, and I have wonderful play partners both locally and long-distance. Maybe my fetish just doesn’t need to consume as much erotica to sustain itself anymore. Or I’m just fickle and flighty and too lazy to read anymore…

But back in the day, in the late ‘90s/early ‘00s, I devoured MC Stories – I was there every Saturday or Sunday to dive into the week’s new batch. And I have some faves from those days, but either a) I’ve lost them in the Interweb Sands of Time and can no longer remember their titles or authors, or b) TBH, they were kind of crude, blunt steps along my hypno-kink and personal fetish and sexuality explorations, and are embarrassing to point back to today. (My hypno-kink interests/themes and hypno erotica tastes don’t always conform to what I sometimes feel has become the sort of Accepted Style and Tone these days.)

And since I’m rarely on Tumblr anymore, I just haven’t kept up on who’s fun and hot and new these days.

31. What’s your favourite book/movie/TV show that includes hypnosis?

Again, like the previous answer, this was something that was HUGE to me 20, 30 years ago, when I was feeding my growing fetish in secret isolation, and I’d pour over DTV VHS titles at every video store I could find and videotape any TV shows with a hint of hypno or MC, all in hopes of stumbling across some weird little gems full of hypno kinky shit.

These days, I barely pay attention. As important and pivotal to my fetish development the sort of tropey, PG-rated hypnosis in most stuff was (usually accompanied by an old-school EC comics moral punishment), it just doesn’t do much for me anymore. I sometimes go back and re-watch clips from those movies or shows that just LIT ME UP 30 years ago, and shrug. They’re quaint and fun, but mostly as nostalgia.

I suppose someday I could try to make a list of Really Important Pop Culture/Erotica Milestones in the 40+ year development of my hypno and MC fetishes, but that seems like a lot of work, lol.

Jeeze, I’m sorry, Boop, I’m really sucking at this, lol.

I have no idea. This is the first time I’ve been back on Tumblr in months and months. Who’s hot and fun and popular these days? I mean I always love my friends who create and curate such hot stuff, but I haven’t even been paying much attention to any of it lately.

So:

a) I’m not on Tumblr enough any more to have a favorite

I removed your brain, @digitalswitchgamine, but it was part of the hypno embalming process (as far as you know), so it was like legit science and stuff...

With others, I've also removed parts of brains, switched brain parts around (front to back, left to right), took the whole thing out and put it back in backwards or upside down, and sometimes just removed the higher reasoning functions, leaving only the reptile brain stem for raw needs and desires.

You can also hypnotically take the brain out and do things to it, blow on it, rub it, roll it around, dip it in things, put it in the freezer...

Answering A Question (That Probably Only I Was  Asking)

I almost gave up on this blog back in 2016 due to some major changes in my personal life. I figured there was no way to integrate hypnosis and kink into my very average life and vanilla marriage- that I would have to make a choice. So I chose to put tumblr and kink aside for a bit to focus on the rest of my life- and to try and make all those pieces fit together in a way that made sense to me. I reposted a bunch of my old articles and files and kind of mentally said goodbye to this whole part of my life at that point. 

I ended up staying away for only about 6 months. My wife ended up being (thankfully) much more tolerant of actually living around my bizarrely-kinky ass than I had feared she would be.  I’ve found little bits of time and energy to play around on Tumblr since then. But, in a way, I feel like I’ve never really completely rejoined this little online piece of the community- or at least, not in the same way that  I connected with it in the past. That’s not the fault of the people (who are generally quite lovely)- I just don’t often have a lot of spoons to keep up.  I often feel like I’m talking over people more than I’m interacting because of it.  

I had kind of reached a happy medium on just being a weird hypnokink auntie (who pops up every once in a while to TLDR and shake a finger) when this Tumblr fracas happened. Suddenly losing a platform has kind of forced a choice. Am I invested enough to backup  my Tumblr in case I get deleted? Is there another  place where anyone would be interested in my weird combo of kink-but-not-sex-plus-science-and-feels? Am I engaged enough to start a blog from scratch on a new platform? 

I’m sure I eventually will start a new blog. I like the community and the people- both reading people’s thoughts and being part of a discourse. It will probably take me less than 6 months this time to decide I’m ready to rejoin y’all in whatever platform the online community decides to head to.  But for right now, I’m feeling like just sitting here,  watching the dust, and occasionally writing random posts into the wind.

 If I’m still viewable after Dec 17 (and I should be), I’ll post any new profiles here so you can follow me at those if you wish (if there’s anyone left to follow by that point).
