Francesca tended to have a handful of mistakes that left her mind, more so mistakes of wrong friends to have. Stupid nights as cops would be called and they would be running. She should have just stayed home, maybe ordered or gone out for take out and gone back to drawing on her iPad. Getting back to her apartment, she saw the crime scene that was Mason sitting on the step, making her look at his position, mouth partly drawn open before a smile grew, eyes flickering up to look at him when he spoke. ❝ 'Mkay, ❞ She started as she dragged her tongue along her lips partly as her teeth grazed them next. ❝ Well, you'd be the best looking fixture this place has at least. ❞ She stated as she stepped by him heading toward her door before stopping a couple of feet away from him. ❝ Alright, I've got two options for you, ❞ She grinned now at this point turning on her heels to look to her neighbour. Between Mason and his roommate, he was the one who always peaked her interest. ❝ Option one, I sit out here with you to keep you company on this... lovely seating option, or option two, you can come into my place to wait until your roommate decides to show up. ❞

mason wonders if some deity was shining down on him, that if he can do anything at all to turn this precarious situation into a positive one in the eyes of the cute girl that lived across the hall. she didn't seem to think of his situation as pathetic or stupid, so he thinks there's a way around marking him as one of those things in her eyes. her words don't go unnoticed, the gentle hum of anxiety that occupies his body on a regular basis growing increasingly noticeable by the male as he watches her swivel toward him. he thinks about how his roommate was most likely going to let him rot in this stairwell all night, how his phone is growing increasingly close to dying, and that this beautiful girl has just invited him into her place for refuge and he finds her offer hard to refuse. "y-y'know, i really don't wanna put you out like that," he starts, adjusting his position on the step. suddenly the discomfort that has settled in his bones from his lovely seating option, as she thoughtfully put it, was begging him to accept the offer and take the opportunity to get close to her while it was still on the table. "but, i really do need to charge my phone. i can be out of your hair in an hour, tops."

gemma was relieved to be done with the day. the hours had seemed to tick by torturously, especially on slow days. days like this, she almost wished that the phone would ring off the hook. for more emails to spam her inbox. anything to make the time tick faster.

but all of that was behind her now as she stepped out of the elevator and onto her floor. she was fiddling with her keys, distracted, until she heard the familiar voice of her neighbor. a soft gasp escaped her as she brought her hand to her chest, steadying herself.

"geez, you scared me," she said, a small laugh following, "I guess I should pay more attention to where i'm going."

gemma took a moment to look at him. pathetic wasn't the word she wanted; that was too mean. she moved closer to her door, twisting the key into the lock slowly, thinking.

"do you want to come in? i mean, if you'd rather stay in the stairwell more power to you, but... i have a couch."

he's mentally kicking himself for this entire endeavor when their interaction starts off with him scaring her. as if he wasn't already embarrassed enough for forgetting his key and relying on his roommate for entry to his home, he's probably marked himself as the complex idiot to the hot neighbor he's already a fumbling idiot around. "yeah, i'm uh - sorry about that. you're good, i'm the moron opening up shop on the stairwell." he shifts his position so that his boots land on the step beneath him, swiveling to face her as she speaks. "that's really okay, i mean my roommate shouldn't be much longer and i—" it's as if his roommates voice possesses him in this moment as the words come out in a swift, sloppy mess to which he punctuates his words with a nod of enthusiasm. "actually, yeah, if you don't mind... i'd really appreciate that."

After the day she had at work Katya was very much looking forward to wine, sweatpants and her couch. Yet the moment she stepped onto her floor an all too familiar face caught her attention. Before she could even ask if he was okay, Mason launched into an explanation that sounded like he's said it more than once. "Oh-kay," she replies unsure of how to respond stepping towards her door prepared to indulge her in relaxing evening. Then her conscience crashed in forcing her to turn around. "Do you wanna like wait in my apartment instead? I'm familiar enough with your roommate to know he enjoys a night out. Your ass has to be numb by now. It's not going to be weird unless you make it weird Mason." She offers turning back around to unlock her door stepping inside before looking over her shoulder. "Are you coming or what?"

there's only been a handful of exchanges between he and katya, just your typical neighborly conversations here and there. but she's been dubbed by he and his roommate as the hot blonde and even though she seemed a little out of it after a long day at work, he's glad to see the name still holds up. the thought of being alone with her in his apartment has a volatile mix of anxiety and excitement begin to settle in his chest, and when she comments about how he must be sore, he readjusts slightly in his seat. "well, i don't want to impose, i mean you just got back from work and—" he realizes he's doing that thing he does when he speaks more than two words to her, the awkward stumbling and rambling that for some reason only she can illicit from him. there's a brief pause where he turns over the thought in his head, though any processes are cut short by the disembodied voice of his roommate telling him to man up. "uh... y-yeah, i'm coming." he lifts himself from his seat, throwing his backpack over his shoulder as he regains feeling in his legs. "i don't think he'll be too much longer... i appreciate it, katya."

mason wishes he could say this was the first time this has happened. living with his best friend was cool and all until the perfect storm of unlucky happenings occur. he forgot his key this morning and there's a nagging voice that tugs at the back of his mind that he should know better than to rely on his roommate to be there to let him in. especially when aforementioned roommate decides on a random side quest for the night with no ETA in mind. he considered driving back to the office, maybe develop some film set to go to print this week but he's toiled enough over his work for the day. so, the stairwell it was. he was sat against the railing of the stairs with his legs extended over the top step, scrolling mindlessly through his phone. his battery percentage was laughably low, and a part of him hopes he didn't forget his phone charger, too. though, that's an issue for a version of mason that exists in... perhaps, an hour from now. the sound of an elevator dinging chimes throughout the hollow space and granted there's only one other person it could be, mason braces himself to put his idiocy on full display for his hot neighbor that is surely going to think even less of him now that they've seen him making a makeshift campsite of their stairwell. he shifts in his seat, no longer taking up the entire step and allowing them room to pass. "i promise i don't plan on becoming a permanent fixture. just... forgot my key." if they knew him better, they could certainly clock the pained chuckle that leaves him as anything other than sincere.
