Bella clenched her fists.
None of them know.
All of this is pointless. Meaningless. And they all go about their daily lives as if nothing was wrong!
Why was it she wasn't allowed to tell them?
It infuriated her. It hurt her even more than seeing that they didn't remember her.
"They'll never recover from the war."
Bella lay on her back, staring up at the endless darkness that was the sky.
Even the void felt more comforting than this.
"Why is it that I'm happier when I don't exist?" she mumbled aloud. Not that she needed to ask.
Unfortunately, she knew the answer. She just wished others knew as well.
Mayhem raised a hand to her forehead dramatically. "Oh, I feel faint," she lied.
"I fear Mother is paying more attention to Order than to me again. Can you imagine? Order! Over her own daughter!"
"Pah! Who needs them!" Her feigned despair immediately evaporated. "Their silly little rules and regulations are worthless."
"That is indeed a good question. Their lives are too short, too impermanent. With most creatures, however, they typically keep ecosystems stable... humans, however, seem to be fond of finding new ways to uproot it over the eons. I am sitting by wondering what would become of mortals in their entirety should humanity run their course... and how long it would take."
Oh now this one would be fun to play with.
Mayhem stopped, head turning backwards to face the source of the voice, a cheshire grin on her face.
"Ah, but the rules say they're precious and deserving of life," she lamented as her body spun back into place beneath her. "No, no, we can't simply wipe them out."
"It's not even fun to play with them. They die so quickly after you take out their organs." She wiggled her fingers, claws briefly peeking out from beneath the sleeves.
"I'd love to see how long it takes for them to choke on all their chemicals and plastics, but alas, that'll take too long and I'd get bored."
"Boring."
The spirit bobbed through the air, floating in some irregular pattern.
She flicked her wrist, an entire tree being uprooted and tossed aside as she idly moved on.
"Always so boring. Too fragile. Too predictable." Mayhem tilted her head back dramatically, throwing her arms wide.
The edges of her sleeves momentarily burst into flames.
"Why should we even care what happens to mortals?"
The presence of the void-touched is noteworthy in its absence. To see something without sensing it.
They exist, and yet they do not.
A lone figure - who had not been there a second ago - stands, face turned toward the sky. Her hands are folded behind her back, letting the silence hang in the air.
"Do you think people know how fleeting existence is? How little time they have left?"

Mayhem starter call, maybe?
"Oh no. Oh no no no no."
Strange, isn't it? To see someone so confident with herself shrink. To see genuine fear in her eyes.
"Please. Not again."
Tsk tsk.
"Did you really think your flimsy little piece of paper could keep me away? Did you really think that mortal laws have any weight against us?"
Mayhem leaned forward, her smile all sharp teeth as her forked tongue flicked at the air between them.
"It's been so long since I've had someone to play with. Humans are much too fragile, little cat, and your kind don't last much longer."
Oh, she made a show of the fact that she wasn't touching the Destroyer. They both knew how easy it was to follow the letter of a rule but not the spirit.
"Just one little game can't hurt, can it?" she asked innocently.
