Yo, Tony!
My 9th grade high school history teacher, Mr. Orell once told my class a fun story about the name Tony.
One day.. he shared with us why most Italians are named Tony.
He said..
Long ago.. when people immigrated into the United States.. they would stop at Ellis Island. America's first line of defense. People were checked for lice... illness... infections... diseases....
If they were good to go... they were sent to New York. If they were seen unfit.. they were sent back to their country.
If they were sent to New York... they were put into a group.. with a tag on their shirt that read: To New York. But New York was abbreviated. Ie: To N.Y.
So when Italians arrived in New York, the other Italians would greet them, "Aye, yoooooo, Tony!!!"
