– “RIGHT, WELL YOU’VE LOOKED BETTER,” she snaps back, not giving his bullshit the time of day. granted, ryder looks just fine – good, even – but her comeback slips out of her lips before she can even process what he looks like. sitting under the stars with him feels like years ago, maybe even a different person than the odette she is right now. and ryder’s tone of voice seems to agree. he still thinks no more highly of her than he did before. it almost stings, but she’s numb at this point. “i, um – i know, thank you captain obvious,” she hisses, digging through her purse for the missing earring after ryder’s reminded her that it’s there. “but glad to see you’ve got nothing better to do than narrate my exploits,” she adds, fumbling with the clasp.
"Really, you think so? I thought I dressed up quite nicely actually." he fought her words, knowing that the dig was quite shallow -- if effective at all. messing with odette always was a sort of fun time for ryder, it always seemed to entertain him at otherwise quite boring times. And he couldn't name a worse time than a cocktail party. The epitome of small talk and polite conversations, things that were the opposites of ryder's strong suits. "Is that why you're just now putting it back on? Besides, what else would I be doing than talking to my best friend?" a small emotionless chuckle left his mouth.
