For anyone out there who enjoyed Sasaki vs Desperado in the BOSJ but hasn't seen their previous singles match - DDT has it up on their youtube channel for free!

This match was the semi-main on Wrestle Peter Pan, DDT's biggest show of the year. They both took the gravity of this very seriously, and really delivered. I definitely recommend watching it, especially since you don't even need a Wrestle Universe subscription!

As a little backstory - Desperado requested this match by showing up as a surprise on DDT's special Tanabata show. Tanabata is a Japanese holiday celebrating one day out of the year when two star-crossed lovers can meet. Sasaki spent the lead-up to the match talking about this constantly and saying stuff like "Ours is a mutual love. Our love bashed down the wall (between promotions) and allowed us to meet in the ring on Tanabata" and so on.

The prize for winning the match was a year's supply of tequila.

Official promotional YouTube channels that upload free content from full matches to full shows and even livestreams of events help open up a world to newcomers unsure of what they like and not immediately ready to commit to a paid subscription of just whatever, give variety to those have been wrestling fans for years but only to what they've known on their tv and gives broke folks a source of entertainment, too. Respect to those shouting out paid subscriptions people can opt for instead, but sometimes people need to taste test at the buffet first. Regardless of the faults within any of these promotions, it is always worth making it clear there are always options and no one is the end all be all of where you can watch wrestling.

Truly i do believe prowres fans wld have more luck telling other ppl abt the hobby if they leaned into the Weird Wrestlers. If u start with a guy who looks like hed do normal wrestling theyll b like "ok but why would i watch this and not normal wrestling." If you go "hey this is kumadori hes a breakdancer who decided to take up blood sports" or "this guys backstory is he can talk to animals and his best friend is a dinosaur+he can do frankenstein type necromancy" then theres a 90% chance theyll go "oh so its irl street fighter anime shit? Heard, thats awesome, hey is that lady fighting a giant panda?"

The women's division in AEW is seriously absurdly talented- I think the main thing that struck me was the way that so many spots had both relationship and broader story going for them? It was gnarly but Purposeful. And the other notable thing is that the women in that match all... how to put this. They all have range and depth such that the entire blood and guts match felt really credible. It really did feel like they were fighting for their lives in there. Even the wrestlers who are usually lighter or more comedic like Mina felt like real threats who belonged there.

I've been kind of cold on the sisters of sin for no reason other than I haven't seen much of them, but they really got a chance to shine on their own merits and not just with Thekla. Every spot felt clear as to why it was happening. And Kris and Willow having that moment of awkwardness, actually telegraphing that things Are still weird around the betrayal and all? Chefs kiss. Wrestling is the only real thing.
