He’s just a fucking kid. He was a kid when he started selling himself, he was a kid when he became a detective, he was a kid when he started killing. In the end, no matter how old he was, he’s just a kid. Abandoned and alone.

I can only imagine how tired he must have been by the end. In my head, it’s been five years since this business started in earnest. Five years of this every single day. From 14 to 19. No matter how much he claims it was his decision or his plan, I refuse to allow that child to bear the responsibility for this.

The thing people seem to misunderstand about Goro Akechi the most is that he only claims full ownership of his actions because it’s the only framework he has for what happened. What’s the alternative? That he climbed out of hell with nothing but his intellect and his body with the sole purpose of exacting revenge, only to fall victim to Shido’s manipulation? To be a puppet again? It doesn’t work. He’d fall apart. I think it’s our responsibility to see past that shield— I think it’s what Ren does best— and to lay eyes on the child that lies behind it. To give that child the normal life he deserves and the unconditional love that he deserves.
