There's a new mascot horror game that I think you might like. It's called Dark Pals. Unlike some of the more popular games of the genre, it actually tries to make the mascots likeable (which makes them more tragic characters, imo), and the setting is more genuinely childlike, which makes the game that much creepier.

parts of it are animated nicely, i guess?? but i think it suffers from the same problem many mascot horror games do in that the character designs and overall setting just...don't really seem all that compelling.
especially these character designs......euughhh. not only are they just not good mascots, they also suffer from a bad case of "who is this for?" (scary dog with a head too big for its body, freaky baby man with a belly mouth and a fuckin binky for a head? why???). just weird in a way that isn't even appealing in a horror sense. yeah sure, historically, plenty of irl animatronics, toys, and mascot costumes from yesteryear were a little creepy by today's standards, i get it; but mascot horror takes it too far and usually won't even stick to the stylistic trends of the era they're trying to emulate. and what are those names? they just sound dumb, and not even in a fun way.
not to mention this game does the same "big evil facility masquerading as someplace child-friendly" setting that so many others have done. don't get me wrong, it can work and be done well, but many of them just....don't do it well. or in a way that makes sense thematically.
as much as i like the mascot horror genre and what it can be, so so many developers that try it just...fall flat. they try to follow the formula that made earlier entries successful (poppy playtime especially), and it completely kneecaps them. i think the only one that's come out in the past few years that i've liked is indigo park. and is it doing anything new? not really, but at least its character designs and setting actually seem like they were meant for a family audience.
and like, the conceit of most of these games is that whatever/whoever is trying to kill you was, at the start, meant to be a mascot– the face of the company. you want something/someone who will look good as the figurehead, even if they eventually end up homicidal and covered in blood and dirt.
my point being– if you're gonna try to sell me on the fact that at some point in the history of your fictional franchise and characters' lifetime, they were meant to appeal to kids and families,
they need to look like an actual, sane marketing team approved them.
or at the very least, be in line with the jank of the time periods many of these characters supposedly come from/are inspired by.
the horrors persist but so do books, art, hot chocolate, winter nights, the moon, the sea, the stars, sunsets, literature, libraries, cats, flowers, stories, love and the wistful feeling you get when you finally return home

I saw your answer on an ask about TFC! I'm in the same boat as you! I recently checked it out cause my moots + it keeps appearing on my socials. While the characters have their own appeal, I am actually more interested in the story building. It's easy enough for me to understand the gist of what's going on but also I am very much in the dark. Also hey, it gives me a boost in making art again. I have been making so much animatic in such a sort time.

(i was sorta wondering if anyone had made any of my ocs in tomodachi....ive seen my friends making theirs, but any desire I have to play is squashed by the complete lack of desire I have to buy a switch2)
every set of ocs ive ever made gets a spot of air time on the inner tv scheduling block. maybe its just a seasonal special once or twice a year, or maybe its a hot ticket with the prime time slot (between 7 to 8 am on the morning drive and 6-12 in the evening) every day for two weeks.
clunky analogy aside, yes, i think about the rusty's crew occasionally.
I'll be 22 on the 9th of this month, and I've realized that vodka is F#$%&@$ disgusting. So I gotta ask, if you drink, what's your drink of choice?
i dont drink much, but if i feel the rare urge, i tend to go for something sweet and simple. most events i go to (family gatherings out of someone's machine shed) have a spiked lemonade or wine cooler on hand, and the myriad beer varieties usually sitting next to them are just disgusting to me.
side note; don't feel bad if you find that you just...don't care for alcohol. it's not really for everyone. personally, it makes me sick more than it gives me any sort of buzz.
