Sick Machine by Pictureplane
What I like: -trappy Crystal Castles type percussion -synth -whiney vocals (think Teenage Dirtbag) -lyrics (don’t necessarily make sense but I like what I hear) -imagery AF
Imagine waking up and the sun never rises. Or being lost underground in a subway station. Or driving through a dimly lit tunnel only to find it never ends. And all colours have sort of faded and everything is dirty and broken and the air smells slightly metallic and any sense of self has long passed. But things are happening, and these things are easy to accept. This song is raw, gritty, emotional and strangely relatable. With a trap beat, synth loop, angsty 90′s esque vocals, and some incoherent but admirable lyrics, it makes me feel like I’m in high school, walking around consumed by a dissociative stupor. The rest of the album is not so great imo, sort of jumbled in style. Like if Silversun Pickups tried making top 40 clubbing hits. Maybe I need to give it another chance but for now I’m convinced this is the only good track on the album. And all I know is its been on repeat for a week now and I’m still not sick of it.
