Looking up at the older male, Aiden had to admit that the softness in Mr. Junho’s eyes eased some of his nerves. He smiled slightly, nodding once. “Okay, cool. Are there going to be sign up sheets for crew, or something?” He could easily imagine Elizabeth throwing a fit if she found out Fairfield had cancelled a musical and his smile almost grew at the thought. He grinned sheepishly as the drama teacher ruffled his hair, grateful that the other guy was so kind and easy to get along with. Of course, he’d expected nothing less. Upon the suggestion that he join drama club, Aiden raised a brow in surprise. He never would have imagined himself joining in a million years, despite Elizabeth’s urging him to in the past, but now he hesitated. It felt wrong, especially since she wouldn’t be there. Forcing those feelings aside, he nodded again. “Yeah, I can join. If that’s the best way to keep up to speed with everything. And I’d like to be more involved.” With everything going on lately, he found that it was better if he distracted himself with activities. And although he knew the question about Elizabeth was coming, it still threw him for a loop. He briefly thought of the photos of the two of them on his phone, the ones of her kissing his cheek and another one of him with his arms circled around her waist. He didn’t expect her to tell anyone about him, since they had never been an official couple, but what they’d had was still real. Or, it had been real to him, at least. “Yeah, I was.” Unlilke her, he wasn’t good at hiding emotion, the pain evident in his eyes. And so even when he followed with, “But I’m fine.” it was clear that there was still more to the story. Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, he looked back up at the teacher. “What about you? How are you doing, with everything?”
“once we decide a musical, and get auditions started, we’ll have a crew sign up. i’ll email you the moment everything starts, aidan, don’t worry.” he reassured the young man, waving his hand dismissively. it was a good feeling when he noticed aiden relax slightly, if junho calmed him nerves, even for a moment, then that was worth it. if he could bring his suffering from one hundred to ninety-eight, it was worth it. it was why he was a teacher right now. he smiled wider, “you don’t be forced to do any acting, or anything. we mostly hang out, talk, snack. we watch musicals, and study and discuss them. but you don’t have to do all that.”
junho frowned, lifting his hand, and smoothing it over his shoulder. he gave him a comforting squeeze, “you don’t have to be fine, aiden. my door is always open. i was close with her too. she was my star, reminded me a little too much of myself, sometimes.” he smiled sadly, “it’s okay wit feel scared and hurt and confused. i’m scared. but she’ll be okay, we’ll find her. for now, we have to keep our hopes up, and keep fairfield welcoming for her.”
