Mr. Chu!
✃30 Days of Character Development: Day 1
1.) Describe your character’s relationship with their mother or their father, or both. Was it good? Bad? Were they spoiled rotten, ignored? Do they still get along now, or no?
When she was a young child, she was spoiled rotten and loved by her parents. She loved them back, after all back then they were the only people she had. Once she went to high school, though, she started to become more and more independent from them. This bothered them and they treated her quite awfully from then on out. They were ecstatic to hear that Naeun was accepted into the oh-so-prestigious Seongnam University, but were disgusted when she announced she was going to major in art. They had always wanted her to be a doctor and would even be a little accepting if she became a therapist, both of them knew that she was more fit to be a therapist anyway. They don't talk to each other often anymore and Naeun rarely goes back to her home for the holidays, she wouldn't be welcomed there. Though there is still a part of her that would like for things to go back to the way they were.
어려운; difficult {Nickhun & Naeun}
An exasperated sigh escaped Naeun's mouth as she lumbered her way down the hallways that seemed to length a football field. The day had went on and on or at least it seemed like it to Naeun. It was her final class of the day, Fundamentals of Drawing it read on her schedule. She tapped her long finger nails to the canvas she was carrying around the campus with her. Each tap made a sound that emitted exhaustion and Naeun couldn't wait for her head to meet her pillow.
She had made it to class a few minutes early and sat closest to the large window. She began to sketch the budding flowers that almost leaned into the window. Each petal was drawn to immaculate detail to so much of a degree that Naeun didn't even notice the professor walk into the class. She watched multiple students march in behind the professor as they stood side by side to each other. The professor explained that they would be split off into small groups and would use the older students who were taking independent study as models. Naeun ended up being assigned to a male student named Nickhun. He had quite short brown hair and looked like he was a foreigner. She peered at his face for a second trying to figure out where he was from, but she realized that it probably looked creepy and looked away. "It's nice to meet you, I'm Naeun," she politely bowed and got to work.
Naeun began to sketch the pose the other was making. It was quite difficult for her since she had never drew from a human model. Her eyebrows burrowed as she tried to sketch the pose in a pretty way though nothing seemed to turn out right. She began to walk side to side to get different angles of the pose but she still kept erasing and erasing. She had used her eraser so much that it barely even existed anymore. Naeun let out frustrated sighs as she sat down again, blowing her hair out of her face. "Could you turn slightly? Please?" Her desperation almost led her to ask the professor if she could just skip this one until she had finally figured the pose out and sketched it correctly. "This looks good enough," she said under her breath. She hoped for no one to see it, it still didn't look that close to the guy than in real life. She shoved the piece of paper into her backpack, looking around to see if anyone had seen her. The only thing she had to worry about now is whether or not Nickhun would ask for it, since many models like to see the final product. She took a big gulp, hoping that she wouldn't have to show him.
☼Opening Up {Sunny & Naeun}
“Well, I haven’t heard of a Arts major and Fashion Designing minor, so maybe it’s just me. Really, my mom wanted me to be a Business major, she really wants me to take over the family company, but I was like, no thanks I’m good!” Sunny laughed as she remembered how shocked her mom looked and how her dad tried to hold in his laughter. “Were you inspired by anyone? You know, to choose your major?” Sunny always felt that someone had a person to help them choose a major or minor. Someone to guide them on the correct path. Her dad was her helper, by telling her she should go undecided. Who was Naeun’s? Her mom, dad, sister or brother? Aunt, uncle, cousin? She was curious, and it wasn’t killing this cat.
"Yeah, most of the time a person's interests are quite different from their family businesses," she nodded slowly, contemplating her thoughts, "I suppose I just don't want to regret anything, you know?" she tilted her head to the side, tapping the end of her paint brush to her temples. The class was almost over and she would hate to end the conversation early, even when the others around her started to stand up from the tiring position and head onto their next class.
"Not really, I've always liked art and fashion since I was a kid, it kind of felt natural since the beginning to go this path..." Naeun could tell by Sunny's face about how intuitive she was about the subject. Naeun wouldn't ever normally go into this much depth with a person she never met, but the end of the day was nearing and thoughts seemed to pour out of her brain like paint pouring out of a bottle. "My parents thought it was always just a hobby of mine, they were actually kind of against this. They said a doctor would be a good job for me. Even a therapist they were okay with..." she let out a sigh and began to pack up her painting supplies into her backpack. "Do you want to go somewhere else to continue this conversation? I heard the coffee shop down the street was fairly nice." Naeun was craving some coffee and it seemed like the best time to try out the cozy shop.

☼Opening Up {Sunny & Naeun}
Sitting in one of her Arts classes, Sunny wished for something to happen. She hadn’t been to a party in a while and her place was not good for throwing one. There had been a steady amount in homework, which most was in her least favorite subject, English. She hadn’t hung out with friends in a while, everyone was so busy. She couldn’t remember the last time she actually saw a friend out of class, surely it was probably last month. She needed a fresh face, not that she didn’t like her friends, she just wanted another person to talk to. Ooh, a new girl talking to her! The more friends, the merrier! After a while on campus, new people just seemed drawn to her. Maybe it was her easygoing attitude or her approachableness, she had no clue. “Well! Hi there, I’m Lee Soon-kyu, but I prefer Sunny. It’s nice to meet you! I’m actually undecided, but on the classes I’m taking it looks like a Drama degree.” An Art major with a minor in Fashion Design? That’s a combo she’d never heard of. This quiet girl sounded interesting, and that’s something Sunny liked. “Art and Fashion Design? You must have a lot on your plate, eh? But that’s really cool, they flow with each other. It’s not like you’re doing Drama and Accounting, now THAT’S a weird pair!” Laughing, she looked over at the girl. She could already tell she needed someone to help her out of her shell, and Sunny was the best person to do it.
She chuckled at Sunny's onslaught of words and replied, "Nice to meet you too." Naeun nodded at the other's words, starting to pay less attention to the class but to the girl sitting beside her. "Sometimes its more fun to be undecided anyways, don't have to worry so much about fulfilling a dream," she indicated her point by hitting the tip of her paint brush to the desk.
"Is it really that odd? There both in the art category, I thought it was pretty usual but I'm not really the one to know about things," she laughed slightly at herself in embarrassment to her obliviousness. "It is a lot but I kind of like being busy, I don't have very much time to think...." Her thoughts trailed off as she suddenly felt a little depressed. Don't be so depressed, she thought to herself and soon a grin was placed on her face. "Now that is peculiar, drama and accounting? I've certainly never heard of that before," a genuine laugh escaped her mouth as she began to slightly feel more comfortable around Sunny.
☼Opening Up {Sunny & Naeun}
The campus was still a mystery to her, even after studying the map like it was her final's study sheet. 'Tis why she was scattering around to class, already five minutes late. She glanced at her watch and muttered words to herself. Naeun could feel eyes boring into her as she rushed down the hallway and up the stairs to the classroom. She could understand that she was new to the campus, though she wished they wouldn't peer towards her direction so intensely. It made her want to dig a little hole and never have to show for this class that she was now, seven minutes late for.
Huffing and puffing, she desperately swung open the door. She was met with a quite verbal lashing from the professor of the class. To quickly go unnoticed, she sat by the nearest girl close to her. She had long brown hair and looked like quite the peppy person. Sliding into the seat, she nodded her head to the girl and tried to pay attention to the lecture.
Come on Naeun, she told herself in her head, Try making some sort of connection with her. She tensed up, not exactly knowing what to say. "H-h-hey," was all Naeun could muster, the word almost stuck on her lips. She set her paint brush down and bowed her head to be polite. "I'm Naeun, and you are?" she muttered and picked the brush up back again, trying to copy the same technique that was on the board. "You an Art major?" she asked in between brushes, "Or still undecided? I'm an Art major and I'm quite sure I'll be minoring in Fashion Design. Though I want to see where the wind takes me," she almost let out a sigh of relief, she was able to hold somewhat of a conversation. She finally took her eyes off of her canvas and to look directly into the eye's of the other girl, hoping that her greeting would be well received.
