“ what do i have to do, nott? run laps around naked if you please? “ evan flashed her a grim smile. “ not quite, i am only bored. “
“well, if you’re offering...” she put a thoughtful finger to her lips before laughing. “i wouldn’t ask that of you, rosier. but surely we can find other ways to cure our boredom that don’t involve spilling secrets?”
“might? that’s an awfully uncertain word.” he shot back with a grin, catching a glimpse of her coy smile. the poor bloke had no chance whatsoever.
“prettier than diamonds, yes, but there are better things don’t you think?” he set down the book in his hands, turning to face her. “the world on a silver platter is much more appealing.”
“half the fun is in the chase, haven’t you heard?” she countered, a chiming bell of a laugh escaping her lips. “the world on a silver platter,” she repeated, a grin curling at her lips. “now, that, i can agree on. careful, someone might think you’re reaching for the moon and stars, but i don’t think there’s anything wrong with a little ambition.”
Andromeda liked to believe she wasn’t easily irritated. At least, not like Bellatrix. But the maddening slow pace of the person ahead of her was grating each nerve with every sloth-like step. She couldn’t even step around the person less she wanted to deal with the ridiculous onslaught of student traffic headed in the opposite direction.
And to think she woke in the morning believing her day would transpire smoothly.
“If we could maybe pick up the pace…” she mumbled under her breath.
persephone was not in the habit of helping people.
but today, apparently, she was feeling rather benevolent---that, or, it was a certain andromeda black that she had fallen in step beside with and the maddeningly slow pace of the person in front of them was beginning to piss her off, too. “excuse me?” she raised her voice slightly, a sickly sweet tone taking form. “some of us have places to be. we don’t have the pleasure of a leisurely walk the pace of a turtle.”
properly chastised, the student in front of them began to speed up, their steps quicker than before. persephone glanced over at andromeda with a sigh. “honestly, some students just don’t know what common decency is, don’t you think?”
“Well you don’t seem very admirable to me.” The ravenclaw frowned.
“If people are going to give you gifts the least you could do is actually appreciate them and keep them.” She stated.
“I won’t tell on you, I wouldn’t do that to that poor boy. And I wouldn’t call that love.”
“Oh, no, I’m not admirable? I’m so hurt.” She rolled her eyes, sarcasm dripping from her voice. “I’m not trying to be. That’s boring.” Was this girl serious? Her righteousness was nauseating.
“You’re welcome to the flowers, if you’d like. I’m sure you’d appreciate them more than me. And since you’re so keen on lecturing me, I’ll give you a few lessons of my own. One: save your breath for someone who actually cares. Two: lighten up. Three: don’t be nosy. There are people who are far less forgiving than me.” Did this girl really think her little speech was going to do anything? How naive.
“True, I guess they could. I’m leaving it in your hands to tell them that, then.” She raised her brows, the amused half of a smile still tugging on her lips. “In the mood of making new friends, Persephone?”
“Of course! It’s the least I can do,” she chirped, leaning back in her chair. “Oh, I’m always in the mood. I’m just selective when it comes to choosing who they are.”

“ come on, nott, i’m sure there’s something or two you can spare. “
“ you’re going to have to try more than that. how badly do you want to know? ”
scarlet lips curved into a signature smirk as chocolate colored eyes drank the interaction in front of her in with bemusement. ( what an actress this little princess is ! giving little boys delightful hopes ) while secretly destroying boyish dreams.
such a facade she puts on – “what a cruel heart you have.” alecto chirped, the smirk still imprinted on her face. “you know he is probably bragging to his friends about how you are his girlfriend now.”
laughter spilled from persephone’s lips at alecto’s comments---she was not at all mad that her fellow slytherin saw right through her act. boys were all so stupid, falling for a winning smile and a light touch.
“true, and what little of it is left,” she agreed, a smirk of her own on rose pink lips. “you think so? can’t have that happening. i suppose i’ll just have to break his heart a second time. or would this be the third? he’s awfully persistent.”
“Looks like you have an admirer.” Aurora said with a smile, looking at the gifts the girl had just been given in awe.
Her face fell when she noticed her throw them away, and she folded her arms. “Oh - well that wasn’t very nice, he put a lot of thought into those gifts.”
And Persephone didn’t even look guilty when she turned around to face...whoever this was. “One of many.” When the Ravenclaw folded her arms, amusement flickered across Persephone’s features.
“Please, I’m the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet. Didn’t you see the smile I gave him?” She didn’t need to say Does it look like I care? for it show on the smirk on her lips and in the nonchalance of her voice. “What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him. Unless...Oh, no, are you going to tell on me? I doubt he’d believe you---the boy still thinks I’m an absolute angel. It’s the power of love, darling.”
The poor thing.
Well, she might say that if she actually felt sorry for him.
“The arrogance of passably mediocre boys is amazing,” Emma commented, having seen the entire exchange, and many others like it all before. Peering at the flowers, Emma wrinkled her nose in distaste. “I mean, as if you would actually care about them. You’re so obviously out of their league. Not to mention they think they can get away with giving you equally mediocre gifts – are these flowers even real? “ She mock sighed. “When will the male race stop being a disappointment?”
“Never, Emma. They never will. Oh, the flowers are real---one of them was wilting.” Persephone scoffed. “They have it in their heads they can just take whatever they want and get away with whatever they want with a single smirk. And I am out of their league, aren’t I? Well, so are you. Besides, I don’t think anyone could get in the way of you and Quidditch.”
“I figured your parents would somehow get you out of this school no matter what you results are,” Ted responded, lifting his shoulders in a shrug — still not sparing the Nott girl a glance. People like her, no matter how smart or stupid they were, were a thousand times more privileged than he could ever be. How they did in school would hardly affect their lives, except maybe their reputations. He continued, his voice dripping with sarcasm, “That’s great for me, Nott. How lucky I am to have a brilliant Potions partner today. I’m sure half the class would willingly take my place.”
“Oh, wow, you know me so well. An expert on high society now, are you?” She did not spare the muggleborn a glance either, her voice dripping with cloying honey. Ted was hardly on her radar, and she didn’t bother talking to him outside of class. What was the point with socializing with people below her? “The luckiest you’ll ever get, really. I’d love half the class to take your place, actually. Why didn’t I think of that?” She matched his sarcasm with her own, rolling her eyes.
She couldn’t help but chime in the conversation she was overhearing. “I wasn’t sure if you were aware, but RUDE doesn’t equal to EVIL. For all you know, precious Headmaster Dumbledore could be an evil man in disguise. Maybe he’s the real Dark Lord.”
“It’s the quiet ones you have to watch out for, you know,” Persephone interjected, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial tone. “For example, that mousy girl over there? She could be plotting your demise right now.”
commotion next to him — amycus’ gaze trails the boy who held a bouquet of flowers in his hands. how sweet. yet the smile on her lips turns so easily into a sneer; the change like day to dark night.
“that boy can hardly afford the likes of diamond earrings, nott.” amusement filled his words. “though i doubt he’d do better with diamonds & pearls in his hands for you.”
“half right, half wrong. a good try, though.” she flashes a coy smile, turning towards amycus. she has no shame to show for what she’d just done. “with diamonds and pearls, he might actually stand a chance.” one where he can call her his for barely more than a week---what a shame her attention is never captured for long.
“but sapphires are much prettier, don’t you agree?” her voice is lilting, laced with a playful tone. everything is a game to her, everything is just for fun. being serious is far too boring.
“ your turn; what’s your WORST habit? ”
“ but isn’t a little mystery much more fun? i can’t have you knowing all my secrets. ” or really, any at all.
a brunet thrusts flowers and chocolate towards her, and persephone accepts them with a graceful smile and a rose pink flush to her cheeks. “oh, thank you! you really shouldn’t have.” she lets out an airy giggle, holding the gifts to her chest while the boy bids his goodbyes and hurries off. yet soon as he’s out of sight, her lips curl into a sneer---there’s no mistaking the contempt in her voice.
“how cheap.”
and the flowers are promptly tossed in the rubbish bin.
He handed Persephone the ingredients she asked for without bothering to spare her even a glance. “I’m shocked, Nott. Who knew that the likes of you needed to pass for a bright future? But for the record, I wasn’t talking about your vain arse. I was referring to the potion itself, which I’m sure you know all about, don’t you?”
“I’d like to graduate at the very least, so I can get the hell out of this godforsaken castle.” Honestly, why wasn’t she sent to Beauxbatons? “Of course I do.” She rolled her eyes. She didn’t miss the patronizing tone, but Tonks only knew of her what she showed the world: a superficial, pretty doll of a girl. “And I know more about it than you. Count yourself lucky you won’t be making something explode today.”
