some more space soda :) made some idle animations and added a couple more locations, plus a whole new exploration mechanic for the in-game forest. I wanted to do justice to the expanse and mystery that is true to the experience of being out in nature, and having it explorable by the same scrolling background as the town wasn’t it. The next step is to finally start work on the first main quest, and I really want to get Sebastian’s idle animation functional for it

hmm all i can say is chase your joy… do what feels good, try new things if they call to you. Be open to all artforms and styles, what you’ve learned in one medium can be applied to another. and Follow Your Heart

as much as you're comfortable saying right now, could you talk about space soda? like what type of game it is and what you do? all the art you post of it looks so tasty and munchable and i was hoping to find out if it'll be a kind of game i get into playing!

It’s a visual novel/point-and-click adventure game! The story takes place over five days, right after our main character Dante wakes up to everyone telling him that all electronics in town simultaneously went haywire at midnight, broadcasting a voice message that sounded suspiciously like Dante’s missing-presumed-dead sister. Dante and his friends must race against the clock to solve the mystery of her disappearance and uncover a much larger conspiracy in their weird little town.

Our setting is Merriton! A rundown mountain town that is most famous for a rumoured ufo crashlanding in the nearby lake (and the blockbuster film based on the story.) It has developed into a quirky tourist trap that draws tourists and conspiracy theorist nutjobs from all over the country, especially at the time of their annual alien festival. Which! Is in 5 days!

I hope to have players explore the map and complete lil sidequests along the main story, but we shall see :3. I am fighting for my life against unity as we speak

Space Soda is going well 🚀👾 🛸🍔🛼🌧️ I’ve started putting together a map system and filling out parts of it so that the player can explore on day one! These are sketches of the mountain lake and the residential neighbourhood. I’m also working on making doors etc. lead to the right places and tweaking the paralax effect and lighting on each scene so it looks nice.

I’m a huge pinterest fan i cannot lie… i’ve been curating my boards since 2015. i love fringe and patterns and stripes and earth tones and chains and vests and big jackets and big pants etc <3

what are some books I should read (I'm currently finishing a trc reread)

Spinning Silver and Uprooted by Naomi Novik both had me glued to my seat to find out what happened next. I was physically unwell while reading this bc i neglected all other worldly needs to read them. Epic level storytelling, fairytales come to life, and Women. 🌱❄️

what is your primary inspiration for your art style?

this is is a very tough question 🤔 I have lots of inspirations and I’ve been trying lots of new things lately!

I was inspired to go for the more inky, watercolour style after (re)reading Witch Hat Atelier. The art is so beautiful and clearly so much love is put into every brush stroke, and the story itself speaks so much about the experience of being an artist. It reminded me of the traditional work I would do before I got into digital art and fandoms and all that. I’ve been so focused on trying to replicate digital fanart that i loved that I forgot to enjoy the process. I love swirly lines and lots of texture and transparent layers of colour and its been so joyful to put that into my recent work. and its all thanks to Kamome Shirahama 👑
