Art Fight: Seraph-Chim
AO3: SeraphChim Main: @nekcihcetaruccayllacilbib
Mainly art stuff. Comms closed for now, at least until I get the hang of this
:3
I mostly make digital art. The dream is to draw regularly; this will include my and my friends' oc's/sonas, fandom stuff, Christian themes, and random pieces. I'll be sure to tag them all accordingly. I've been known to post process updates such as sketches or partial colorings as well, which will be under [#wip]! As for [#my writing], it's projected to be mostly fanfics. I don't have many of those—you can find all of my finished works on my AO3.
I'm not accepting commissions as of now, but I will take art trades or small requests for minicomics, one-shots, or just sketches.
+*.~Enjoy your stay!!~.*+
((tags guide under the cut))
#my art -- finished pieces, including everything from quick sketches to fully rendered artworks
#my writing -- this is where I'll link my fanfics that I write from here on out (likely to be mostly one-shots, but i am working on a sonic&shadow or sonic/shadow au fic). Other than that, this is also where I'll keep my short poems (or "poems") and teeny-tiny-short-stories
#:p -- non-writing-related text posts or just me being a silly lil guyg
#wip -- works in progress! The function this serves is that it shows you I'm not dead. The reason I post em is cause sometimes I get excited (or lonely. take your pick.)
#sonic x shadow fealty au -- this is that au I mentioned before. The basic premise is that a demon who is only capable of following orders is pitted against Sonic, god of the wind, and swears its fealty to him in exchange for his command to love. Instead, Sonic transforms it into an angel in his image and names him Shadow; his only command is to do whatever he wants to do. I don't categorize this as strictly sonadow/shadonic because, even though this relationship is going to be close and intimate, I don't think of them as lovers in this au; however, if someone wants to interpret them that way, it doesn't bother me, because they do love each other in ways that are often presented as romantic in today's society. If it helps, you can think of my presentation of them in this au as a qpr
#shitty work art (queue)/self reblog (queue) -- self-explanatory. I draw at work or in the past, I post or reblog it here so y'all have something while I'm in-between full artworks or working on my fic(s)
if i haven't drawn a character dancing, they're not my blorbo.
process under the cut because i really just wanna put it there!
sketch and lines! i have found that i like the process better if i treat this stage like traditional art - meaning, no layers or anything. just scratch and erase, and repeat xP (it helps, though, that the brush i use looks like ink already). i wanted to keep a lot of energy in his legs, where most of the movement is, so i left them a lot sketchier-looking than the rest of his anatomy. i also left in the ends of that line of action and eventually mask-colored it in, cause i like it a lot
struggle with the face and accidentally draw a future version of yourself
move on to clothes (keep it sketchy for portions that move a lot, and keep portions of the anatomy work to better show off form) and colors. i did a base layer with different textured brushes for each portion, and rendered them with mask layers, as usual
details, like his shadow and a last-second cast-aside jacket
fill tool, lasso-erase, and gentle texture for the backdrop. circle tool with a textured brush and then gentle texture again for the halo, and a layer of white over parts i didn't want to show through (namely within the halo and his shirt)
notes:
i flipped the canvas every now and then, especially when i felt stuck (that faaaacce TvT). it helped me keep the energy without it feeling too warped. much as i like traditional, this is the biggest perk of digital x]

i also used different textures for different materials! to show age a little better, for instance, i used a slightly grittier brush for his skin than for his pants - and his shoes were done with my line brush and a blending tool, so it looks more like leather.

i try to keep it loosey-goosey for fun stuff like this. i'm not incredible at making every little thing perfectly even and neat (especially lines), so things like this, where i just splotch and erase until it feels good, are significantly less effort, and free up my mind for details that are actually important (color, texture, "dynamicism," etc). i actually was barely looking where the head's base layer went ^^'

kim's weak jawline makes me feel so represented. no one ever likes characters with them (especially if they have strong noses, also like me), or else they don't want to bother with drawing them... and yet, here comes kim kitsuragi, the sun in our skies and the food on our table... he makes me so happy x3 i hope i look even more like him in my 40's (i do fear that i may've given him my small ears by accident though ;-; )
