"Can’t say I ever wondered about that,” Sera admitted, smiling at Theo in thanks as he handed her the drink. “I suppose they are hoping they’ll get the money back somehow. And surely they get a bunch of donations too, after all crème de la crème of the British wizarding world is here.”

“I really wouldn’t with that one. It’ll be one you regret.” Lucie spoke up when Seraphina went to grab one of the little snacks they had set out. Some were really good but the odd ones felt more like an afterthought that had been thrown together.

Sera’s hand stopped midair and she quickly turned to look at Lucie, her eyebrows raised. “Why? Is it something wrong with it? No one has poisoned them, right? We don’t need to call the Aurors if they’re just yucky, but if it’s worse than that..,” she rambled, her eyes moving from the woman to the snacks.

“There are so many great costumes this year that my heart is sooo full,” Aurora said loudly. She clearly already had a couple of drinks so there wasn’t much that was stopping her from professing love to everyone around. She would need to find some snacks if she wanted to stay and party longer, but for now she would just treat herself to another cocktail. 

"I only went to the bathroom for a couple of minutes..,” Sera sighed as she spotted her tipsy friend. “Let’s grab something to eat, shall we? Then you can do whatever you want for the rest of the night,” she promised.

Callista wasn’t sure why she’d bothered coming to this. She always enjoyed the autumn festival but wasn’t necessarily one for dressing up. Somehow, she’d convinced herslef to come and have some fun. All she’d done is bought some black spray paint for half her hair and found her nicest black and white outfit to be some version of Cruella De Vil. Mostl she was here for the booze, “Oh sorry, are you looking to get past?” She asked, noticing someone nearby as she was lost in her thoughts.

"No, no, I already ordered,” she quickly replied. “Not sure why my drink is going to take them longer than others but they told me to wait sooo..,” she added, shrugging. She didn’t mind waiting as long as she was actually going to get something delicious.

When he agreed to participate in that event, he knew there would be people dressed in all sorts of costumes, but he didn’t think anyone would be carrying a muggle hairdryer. Nor would be waving it around and attack others.

"Oh please, it’s not like I broke your nose,” Sera rolled her eyes. She barely touched him and was quite annoyed that he made it seem as if she badly hurt him. “Make sure you stay far away from anyone with claws or pointy nails, those may seriously injure you,” she warned, not sounding like she would actually care if anything happened to him.

“Do you know how much I hate Halloween as a teacher?” Callista asked, “I mean, as a person, I enjoy the dressing up and the drinking and the party but as a teacher? As soon as it hits October, the IQ of some people drops with the things they think they can get away with. If I have to deal out one more detention for a hex gone wrong, I mightconsider taking sick leave.”

"You and me both,” Sera sighed. She was so already so tired that she was barely aware of things happening around her. “Maybe we could just hibernate and wake up sometime before Christmas right in time for the break,” she suggested.

“They all are very unique and honestly, as much as they often drive me to distraction, I love every one of them. I’m quite excited to watch them grow and see who they become.” Because it was a wonder to watch them evolve. He’d found that more than anything he loved watching things grow and helping them thrive in every sense of the word. “I think that you’re a terrible liar so it’ll make no difference Sera.”

"Do you fancy giving them all a pep talk and suggest they injure themselves less?” She asked, sounding hopeful. Sera was ready to try anything to convince the kids to be more cautious. “Hey, I can lie..,” she protested. “When the situation is serious... I think..”

“I do get that,” she nodded her head several times. “I think there’s only really a point to bring it out for holidays like Christmas and Halloween, after that it can stay locked up,” Val laughed. “Ew– some kids really do that? What a nightmare.”

"I don’t think I would be sad if it just disappeared from existence,” Sera mused. Maybe glitter was cute in some situations, but in most it was just bothersome. “You’d think they get smarter with age but somehow every year it’s always the same person who does it,” she shook her head, rolling her eyes.

Seraphina plopped down next to Theo and turned her face towards the sun, enjoying those last few brief moments of warmth. “What’s up stranger? How’s life? How’s work? How’s your uncle twice removed?” The blonde joked.

Even though Cassius was a Quidditch fan and wanted to go see the world cup, all his enthusiasm evaporated as soon as his father ordered him to go on his behalf. Gone were his plans to dress casually and hang out with his friends. Instead he needed to kiss some asses and watch his every word. He was disappointed when his team lost, but he was still their proud supporter. “It was a great game, I’m sure we’ll do better next time,” he repeated for the billionth time when someone tapped him on the shoulder. 

"You don’t sound very believable,” Seraphina observed. She had been hanging around for a bit now and was pretty sure she had heard him say the same thing over and over again at least a dozen time. “Need a break?”

“Did you say drinking game?” Candice asked. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d played one and she was already pretty tipsy in the midst of her partying. What harm could it do? She smiled, “Which one are you playing? And can I join?”

“It doesn’t really have a name, I just decided to take a shot whenever I see someone with an American flag painted on their cheeks,” Sera explained, then motioned at the drinks in front of her. “I figured there’s going to be a lot of people so I preferred to be prepared,” she added, smiling broadly.

You should relax on your holiday and not worry you’re going to fall from a cliff,” Elias muttered. “But then I guess you don’t need to worry since you’d just going turn into a bird while I’d break every bone in my body,” he added, still muttering so perhaps she didn’t actually hear all that complaining. 

"Well, I wouldn’t just leave you and you could also apparate away, but if you want to be a pessimist then go ahead,” Sera shrugged. “How about this, well reach a lovely place and then you’ll be free to nap there for a couple of hours. Deal?” She offered.

"I like it just fine, but in doses. When there’s too much of it, it gets absolutely everywhere and you still find it after months of cleaning. Also, some kids are stupid enough to eat it so they can puke rainbow, so there’s that,” Sera explained in light tone.

“Man, you have no idea how glad I am that school is finally out for the summer.” Elijah spoke up as he hopped himself up onto one of the barstools. “But all those plants I gave out to them to babysit for the holidays… I know they are hardy but how many do you actually think I’ll get back that aren’t dead?” In theory it had been a nice idea but in practice not so much.”

"Tell me about it,” Seraphina sighed. “I like those kids but, Merlin, some of are really... special,” she said finally, not wanting to offend them. Of course she would much rather like if they actually studied and were less accident-prone but, well, she couldn’t really do much about it. “Um.. Do you want an honest answer or do you want me to lie?”

Diana groaned quietly and rubbed her temples. “It’s nothing, it’s just a brain freeze,” she assured her companion. She was never able to stop herself from eating as much ice cream as she could in a short amount of time. Even though it as no competition, she just couldn’t help herself.

"Are you worried someone is going to steal your ice cream or..?” Sera asked carefully, eyeing the half-empty bowl in front of the woman. “They’re not going to run out either, just in case you were wondering,” she added teasingly.
