Extreme Sports Photographer Alexandre Socci Captures Brave Kayakers’ Journey Across an Active Volcano

Sports photographer Alexandre Socci set out on a dangerous mission with the help of professional kayaker Pedro Oliva and his team to the waters surrounding the active volcano of Mauna Loa in south-central Hawaii. The challenge was to navigate the molten lava, which gushed from the volcano into the water stream. The stunning images showcase the stunning, yet lethal oozing lava, which added an otherworldly element.

Aquatic Surreal Lovers are Swept Away by the Sea by Chalermphol Harnchakkha

Thailand-based artist Chalermphol Harnchakkham a.k.a. hubucket composes unique and surreal illustrations, which create a psychedelic union between nature and the human body. Harnchakkham’s bold and energetic pieces depict the movement of nature, its roots and its lurching ocean. Drawn in a series of linear lines, which resemble delicate threads, the illustrator creates silhouettes from the flexible linear structures, which result in an intriguing optical illusion.

Often drawing from the power and strength of the sea, the aquatic and lovers illustrations are a portrayal of the ephemeral and fluctuating nature of relationships. The portrayal of the romantic counterparts are intricately connected to the sea, its beauty, strength, delicacy and chaotic passion.You can find his illustrations in his Society6 and Etsy shop.

The Completed Cake (Part 1)

Based on Neil Gaiman’s “The Day the Saucers Came”. Hopefully, all the bits and pieces of the cake are recognizable from the poem! Ultimately I didn’t deviate too much from my original design, and each layer of the cake (roughly) corresponds to a stanza of the poem.

There is however one small addition not drawn from the poem. I completed the cake shortly after the passing of the incomparable Sir Terry Pratchett. As another of my favorite authors, his works shaped much of who I am today and I included a small tribute to him on the top tier.

I figured Neil Gaiman wouldn’t mind.

Eleanor Roosevelt’s efforts to aid Europe’s refugees began before the US entered World War II. She was seen by many as a trusted advocate who could bring their views to President Roosevelt’s attention. In July 1941, acclaimed physicist and German-Jewish immigrant Albert Einstein wrote this letter to Eleanor urging her to tell the President about the State Department’s rigid application of immigration rules and regulations. A “wall of bureaucratic measures” erected by the State Department, Einstein asserts, made it all but impossible to aid the victims of Nazi brutality. At the bottom of the letter in Eleanor Roosevelt’s handwriting are two notes. One says simply “FDR” and is an instruction to her secretary to send Einstein’s letter to the President. The second notation is Eleanor’s reply to Einstein which was later typed into a letter: “Tell Mr. Einstein I will bring his letter at once to the President.” Although Einstein’s letter was given to FDR, there is no evidence that the President responded to him or took any action based upon it.
