At her compliments, Mohinder’s smile widened, although in the back of his mind, he was curious what she had meant by showing her his talents. Of course he would cook for her tonight if she wished it. Right about now, he’d probably do anything she asked of him, but she didn’t need to know that. At least she didn’t cringe at his line, and for that, he felt more at ease, visibly relaxing further at her side. “Thank you. It would be an honor to show you.”
Her words gave him more clues as to who she was in relation to his advisers. Aha, so she was related to one of the more famous or outgoing members. There were a few of them that her features reminded him of. So those facts helped him to narrow down who to thank later. Of course he could have just asked, but that would make him look as though he was not fully in charge and had no idea what his advisers were doing while he wasn’t looking… Which was pretty much true, as he trusted them and did not want to waste time on stuff he did not care about.
After nodding in agreement, he said, “I try to avoid the annual parties as much as possible, but I have attended a few, yes. I think the theater would work, as I do go there quite a lot.” Another nod as he thought it over. “Yes, that sounds perfect. We can improvise the little details as they come up.” As she had implied she wanted a home cooked meal from him, he took the liberty of taking her hand into his and lifting it for secret inspection – well manicured nails, skin so soft. She was definitely from money as well, and to cover up this little act of playing detective, he kissed the tip of each finger. “Enough about me, please, tell me about your talents? Your likes? Your dislikes?”
“Good, then,” Inara said, nodding slightly, “then we met at the theater, and I was swept up by your sparkling eyes and charming humor over champagne and a discussion of the play.” Her grin broadened as he took her hand and kissed each finger, and she let out a little laugh.
“What’re my talents? Why, tending to you, of course,” she said with a small smile, referring to both her work as a companion and their little cover story of being romantically involved. “In any capacity I’m able. Spiritually, psychologically, sexually--I’m more than experienced in most facets of human interaction, and you get to reap that benefit.” Inara gave his hand a gentle squeeze, looking at Mohinder through dark lashes.
However, realized he likely already knew that information. It was what was expected of all companions. “I also enjoy the theater,” she continued on more personal note, “tea, music, conversation, people watching. My tastes are fairly simple, truly.” She shrugged, looking down briefly. Much of her time was occupied with her job, as it was more of a lifestyle than simple work; she didn’t have much actual leisure time to develop many hobbies, though she had no complaints.
“As for dislikes...well, we’ll speak of those if they come up. No need to bring any negative energy with us at the beginning of this lovely evening,” she added, meeting his eye once more.
