One Day Part 5

The Move

Even though she was hung-over as hell, Alex still woke up with a slight smile on her face. Servando had called her, and it was all worked out. She probably should have had a little bit more faith in her relationship with him, but for the first time in a long time, she was genuinely worried. It caused her to think long and hard about what her life would look like without Servando in it. It scared her. She had always known that she loved Servando, there was no doubt, but when she came close to losing him, she realized that she was all in. She wanted everything with him, marriage, kids, to grow old together, she wanted it all, and she wanted it with Serva.

She got out of bed and took the most refreshing cold shower that she hadn’t experienced since her days at Cal, and got ready for breakfast with her family. Once breakfast was over, and Jeri teased her about being in a much better mood, they all piled back in the limo and headed back to San Francisco. Once Alex bid her family goodbye; she hopped on her plane back to Seattle, anxious to see her beau.

When Servando landed in Seattle, it was bittersweet. It was good to be home, and then he realized it wasn’t home anymore, and that he had to pack up the last 3 years of his life, and book it down to Houston. He smiled at the thought of Alex joining him. As he made his way back to his house, he called Alex to see when she would be arriving.

“Hey” he heard her soft voice that was filled with a slight irritation

“Hey yourself, what’s’ wrong?”

“My flight is delayed” she huffed

He chuckled to himself

“It’s not funny Ser, this happens..”

“...Every single time” they said together, Serva knowing exactly what she was going to say.

“Babe, it’s ok, its out of your control, I’ll just see you when I see you, I miss you like crazy” he comforted

“I miss you like crazy too” she whispered back

“Well I’m almost to the house now, call me when you land ok?”

“Ok, will do, I love you”

“Love you too amor”

Serv hung up and smiled, she was the love of his life.

When Serv opened the door to the house, it was empty as he suspected. Having been a former Sounder, he knew his roommates were at training. He lugged his bag into his room and stood there facing his bed deciding what to accomplish first. He was leaning towards a good nap.

As Serv was looking at his bed, something didn’t seem right, but he couldn’t place it. Nothing stood out in particular, but he couldn’t for the life of himself remember making his bed before he left. All the sudden he felt two arms wrap around his waist.

He jumped and spun around in pure fear before he realized that there was a woman standing before him, wearing much too sexy lingerie…and that woman was Alex.

“Alex?!” he breathed out grabbing his chest trying to calm his heart.

“I knew hiding in the closet was a bad choice” she muttered to herself

He let out a breathy laugh “You just scared the hell out of me woman”

Alex gave him a cheeky smile “Who knew you had such a girly scream” she teased putting a hand on her hip.

Serv smiled and took in her appearance, and it had quite the effect.

“Well a girl certainly wouldn’t have that happen” Alex pointed out, looking down at the newly pitched tent in Serva’s pants

“Let me show you all the things a girl can’t do in this situation…” he mumbled as he pulled her to him and planted kisses all over her.

They eventually fell on the bed, and Serva meticulously removed the last little bit of clothing she had left.

Once they were done, they just lay there holding each other, each sitting on the line of sleep and consciousness.

“Hey Al?” Serva asked

“Mmm?”

“Why did you sound so irritated on the phone? Was that part of your plan?”

“I was trying to make room for myself in your closet. A box fell on my head” she mumbled

Serv smiled to himself, too tired to laugh. Same old goofy Alex, he hoped that would never change.

…

A couple hours later, Alex woke up first. It was reaching sunset time and Alex’s tummy grumbled with hunger. She grabbed her phone and ordered a couple pizza’s from her and Serva’s favorite pizza place, and made sure there would be left over’s for the roommates. Since she had to wait a bit for the pizza, she decided to get to work packing up some of Servando’s things. She grabbed one of many storage bins from the hall closet, and set to work, neatly folding Servando’s clothes from his dresser. Alex is a skilled packer, so this was a breeze for her. Before she knew it, she filled three bins and finished the dresser and then moved to the closet.

This stuff was different; she had to be a bit more careful so the stuff wouldn’t wrinkle. Instead of folding, she grabbed a bunch of hangers of shirts and then put a garbage bag over the hangers, creating the perfect dry cleaner bag to keep the shirts clean and wrinkle free. They would just have to be careful how they set them in the car. As she was working on her third round of hangers, she heard the doorbell.

After paying the delivery driver and grumbling about how long it took, she brought the pizzas back into the bedroom and set them on bed, where she once lay. She opened the top box and grabbed a slice, silently thanking God for the delicious pizza. She went and grabbed two beers, knowing that the scent of the pizza would wake Servando up in no time. As if on cue, when she walked back into the room, she saw a groggy Servando with a pizza slice dangling from his mouth.

“Use your hands” she scolded

“I’m too tired” he whined

Alex smirked “Guess I wore YOU out this time” she winked

“Come wear me out some more” he tried

Alex humored him as she walked over and pulled the pizza out of his mouth. She kissed him hard on the mouth and then pulled away, and stuck the pizza back in.

“You’ll get more of those when we finish packing” she persuaded

“Cruel cruel woman” he whispered to himself

Alex let out a little laugh and sat on the bed by his feet and handed him his beer. There was a silence while they ate, but it was comfortable. It’s amazing how the day before, Alex was worried he didn’t love her anymore, and now they’re here and happy as can be.

“You got a lot done while I was asleep” Serva noticed while looking around the room

“Well the pizza guy took forever, so I figured I’d get started. Plus you fold like shit” she teased.

“Well I hate folding, so it only makes sense”

“So what are we going to do with all the big stuff, like the bed and tv and couches and stuff?” Alex questioned

“Dynamo said they’d pay for some movers for us. But we won’t need that stuff right away, they’re setting us up with an apartment til we can find our own place”

Alex smiled at the ‘us, we, and our’ terms that Servando was using. ‘He still wants me to be a part of this’ she thought to herself.

“Texas sure will be a new environment, no more rain everyday” she mused

“Yeah, now just throw in extreme heat and humidity, along with raging thunderstorms. Will be an adventure for sure”

“So how are you feeling about this whole thing” Alex approached softly, still not sure if he wanted to talk about it or not.

“After meeting the guys I feel a lot better about it. I mean, it’s still hard to wrap my head around, but as long as I have you, I don’t care where I am,” he explained genuinely.

Alex looked up at him and saw that he meant what he said. She put her pizza down and crawled up towards him. Without having to explain what she was feeling, she kissed him so lovingly and gratefully, that they both knew whatever problems they had in the future, they would face them together.

“I love you, thank you for saying that” she said softly as she kissed him again.

When she pulled away, Servando put a hand on her face and looked her dead in the eye.

“You don’t have to thank me for that, it’s the truth” and he gave her one more kiss before he let her return to her pizza.

“You know what’s kind of exciting about this move Al?” Ser asked

“Gee, like all of it?” Alex deadpanned.

“Ha. Ha. No. It’s that we have the chance to get our first place together, for the both of us” he smiled

Alex smiled too as she thought about it. This house was his place that he had with his roommates. She was technically just a visitor. This new place in Houston was kind of a big step for them and she couldn’t believe she overlooked it.

“Our place…” Alex smiled “I like the sound of that”

…

“Let me drive” Alex ordered

“Absolutely not”

“Serv, pull over, let me drive”

“No”

“Ser!!”

“Alex, you almost killed us earlier, you’re not driving”

“I did not almost kill us, you’re so dramatic.”

“You’re not driving” Serva smiled

“You drive too slow” Alex whined

“And we will live because of it”

5 hours later…

“I swear to God if you make one more slurpy noise with that Jolly Rancher, I’m throwing the whole bag out the window” Alex threatened

“You are a real treat to go on road trips with…” Servando teased

“You won’t let me drive, I can’t lay my seat back cause of all the stuff in the back, and you’re making those obnoxious noises with your candy…”

“You can lay your head right here” Serva patted his lap seductively

Alex gave him the ‘did you really just say that’ look, and Servando had to try his hardest not to laugh. Alex just turned her head and looked out at the landscape.

They were currently 14 hours into their 34-hour road trip and somewhere in the middle of Utah and clearly Alex was already losing it. The two had left at 4 in the morning to beat Seattle traffic, and about 2 hours into the trip, Servando demanded to drive. He loved Alex, but goodness, what a terrible driver she was. If she wasn’t boppin around to music, she was swearing at drivers on the road, and then speeding in excess, to the point of where Serva was worried for his life.

“Slurp..”

“Alex no!”

Alex’s hand was faster than Serva’s as she grabbed the bag and chucked it out on the freeway.

“Come on, why’d you do that, it was an accident”

“I warned you…” Alex smiled, clearly happy with herself.

“Next gas station you’re buying me a new bag”

“No chance in hell” Alex laughed

6 hours later

“It feels good to lay” Alex groaned as she fell on the hotel bed

“I’m exhausted” Serv mumbled already half asleep.

It was midnight and the two had been in the car since 4am. They were currently at a hotel right on the border of Colorado and New Mexico. At first Serv thought he could drive through the night, but the closer it got to midnight, the less and less he liked that idea.

The two were starving, but neither one of them could move to order room service. They ended up falling asleep next to each other in their day clothes, on top of the blankets, and didn’t wake until Alex’s alarm blared 3.5 hours later.

“Turn it off…” Serv rolled over

“I don’t even know where it is…” Alex mumbled hoping it would just stop on its own

“Alex…” Serva whined

Alex groaned as she opened her eyes hoping the light of the phone would direct her to the noise. She saw it illuminating the dark room over on the vanity by the TV.

“It’s so far away…” she said sadly

Servando didn’t answer, he just used his arm to nudge her towards the end of the bed.

‘Ok Ok…jeeze” she grumbled

Alex stumbled over to the phone and groaned at the time. Why she thought 3.5 hours was a reasonable amount of time to sleep, she’ll never know. Maybe they could leave a little later this morning, they weren’t really near any big cities, so traffic shouldn’t be an issue. She reset her alarm and went and crawled back into bed.

“Ser, get under the blankets and cuddle with me”

“I can’t move” he said with his face in the blanket.

Alex maneuvered her way under the blankets and kept nudging Serv until he finally took her advice. He wiggled under the blankets and pulled her close and nuzzled his face in her neck, as she cuddled into his embrace.

2 hours later

“Turn it off” Serv mumbled again

“Your turn” Alex mumbled back

“Your phone…your problem”

The two lay there silently while the phone went on blaring.

“We have to get up this time” Alex groaned realizing the situation.

Alex huffed and got up and turned the alarm off and walked back over to Ser’s sleeping figure. She felt bad, he had driven that whole 18 hours, and he still looked tired. She ran her fingers through his hair.

“I’m gonna shower, you sleep in a little more, I’ll wake you up when I’m done”

“Mmk” he snuggled further into the pillows

Alex couldn’t help but smile at his cuteness. He was all hers. Alex walked into the bathroom and stripped her clothes from the previous day and climbed into the warm shower. She was still so tired too, and the hot water felt wonderful against her achy muscles. She decided to take her time so that Servando could get in some extra sleep.

She had the lights off with just light from the door coming in; she couldn’t deal with fluorescent bathroom hotel lights this morning. After 10 minutes or so, she heard the shower door open with a blast of cool air, and her sleepy boyfriend stepping into the shower with her. She smiled at the fact that his eyes were still closed.

“Why aren’t you sleeping” she giggled

“I couldn’t pass up taking a shower with you” he said softly as he pulled her to him and rested his heavy head on her shoulder.

She kissed his chest and rested against him. They were the perfect fit. Alex eventually pulled away and washed his hair for him, adding in extra scratching with her fingernails, knowing he liked it. Serv rubbed both of them down with the hotel body wash, and they huddled under the warm water together rinsing off.

When they got out of the shower, Serv still looked dead on his feet.

“Baby?” Alex asked

“Hmm?”

“Are you going to let me drive today?”

“No way” he said slowly

“Ok, then you lay down for a little longer, and I’ll go get us some breakfast” She persuaded

“Lay with me” he pleaded

Still in their towels, they both lay on the bed, holding each other close

After about 2 minutes, Ser was out like a light, and Alex got up and got dressed.

In her Nike yoga pants and t-shirt, Alex grabbed the car keys, room key, and purse, and headed out to get some grub. She knew if they had any chance of making it through today, they needed a good meal to get them started.

Alex drove through the small town and saw a small diner not far from the hotel. She pulled in and decided to check it out. When she stepped inside, she was pleased to see it was an old time diner like you see in the movies. A couple of old men sitting at the breakfast bar eating their eggs and pancakes, as a woman with an apron served them coffee from behind the counter.

Alex went and sat next to one of them and the lady handed her a menu.

“What’s a pretty gal like you doing sitting next to these old goons” the lady teased

“Haha just passing through, hoping to get some breakfast and coffee to go?” Alex asked hopeful

“Of course, I’ll let you look that menu over while I get the coffee’s ready, you like cream and sugar?”

Alex told her how they liked their coffee, and went to looking at the menu.

“We aint that old by the way” the old man said next to her

Alex smiled genuinely

“I’m Albert, and this old geezer over here is Henry” He said throwing a thumb over his shoulder

“I AINT THAT OLD” Henry said loudly, clearly hard of hearing

“I’m Alex, it’s nice to meet two such young lookin fellas” she teased

“Ahaha, cute as a button is what you are”

“Albert, leave the poor girl alone, she could be your grand daughter” the waitress swatted at him with a menu.

“Can’t blame an old guy for tryin!” he defended

Alex laughed genuinely and patted him on the back. ”I’m taken, but if I wasn’t, I’d have my eye on ya”

“You hear that Henry! She had her eye on ME!”

“YEAH, CAUSE YOU HAVE KETCHUP ALL OVER YOUR FACE YOU DUMB FART” Henry joked

Embarrassed Albert grabbed his napkin, not knowing there was nothing on his face

“Fool” Henry grumbled

Alex couldn’t contain her laughter, these two were a hoot.

“Did you decide what you want sweetie?”

“Can I get an order of grits with an egg cracked on top, and then 2 eggs over easy with sausage, with some French toast?”

“Comin right up sweetheart”

“For such a small thing, you sure can eat a lot” Albert observed

Alex blushed “Haha if my boyfriend is lucky I might share it with him”

“Where is the young lad, I must see the man that snatched this pretty girl”

Alex blushed harder “He’s back at the hotel sleeping still”

“Well dang nabbit, bring the fella by on your way out, we’ll be here”

Alex smiled “We’ll see, we’re already pushing our time trying to get back on the road”

“WHERE YA HEADED” Henry asked

“YOU DON’T HAVE TO YELL YOU DEAF IDIOT” Albert snapped

“WHAT CRAWLED IN YOUR JOCK STRAP…” Henry threw his dirty napkin at Albert

“Break it up you two, you’re gonna scare the girl out of here before she gets her food” Linda the waitress swatted them both with menus

Alex giggled “We’re heading to Houston, we left yesterday from Seattle”

“Business or pleasure” Linda asked

“IT’S HOTTER THAN HELL THERE” Henry added

“My boyfriend’s job is moving him there, and I’ve heard the humidity is killer”

“And you’re going with him? What does your daddy think about you following your boyfriend across the country” Albert asked disapprovingly.

Alex thought about it. Was she really moving across the country with her boyfriend? Not really, she still was with the Thorns in Portland…but yet, they were still going to be in Houston together too.

“My job is in Portland, so we’ll be having to do some long distance. I get sporadic amounts of time off though, so Houston will be where I go when I have the time off. Both of our families are from California, and we’ve been together for 6 years, so my dad is ok with it” Alex explained

“You two sure are a travelin bunch” Albert muttered

“What do you do sweetheart” Linda asked

Alex thought about lying like she normally would when people don’t recognize her. But she genuinely believed that these people couldn’t care two hoots about her.

“Well, we’re both actually professional soccer players. My team is in Portland, his is now in Houston, he just got traded from Seattle”

“NO WONDER YOU’RE IN SUCH GOOD SHAPE” Henry commented

Alex blushed as Linda hit him with a menu again.

“I have to run a lot, I guess that keeps me in check” Alex explained, still with a hint of blush on her face.

“Well darlin, here is your food, if you need refills on your way out, stop on in and I’ll fill ya right up” Linda smiled.

“Thank you guys so much, it was so nice to chat with you guys” Alex said as she paid for her food and tipped Linda generously.

Alex waved goodbye and headed back to the hotel.

As she made her way into the room, she giggled at the fact that Servando was exactly where she left him. She went over and ran her fingers through his hair again.

“Wake up baby, I’ve got food, and coffee” she said soothingly

“Mmm, do I smell sausage?” He lifted his head up and took a deep sniff

“Yes you do, what good nostrils you have” Alex patted his head like a little boy.

He gave her a cheeky grin and a chaste kiss.

“Thanks for getting the food, I’m sure you’d have liked to sleep”

“I wont be driving, so I have a better chance at sleep than you do”

…

“This coffee is to die for Al” Serv complimented

“I know, best I’ve had in a while, the waitress said if we wanted more we should stop in on our way out”

“Yeah lets do that, this stuff is waking me right up”

“Beware, there are some old men who want to meet you”

Serv gave her a questioning look.

“They want to know who snatched up this cutie” Alex pointed two thumbs at herself

“Well I will be damn proud to tell them it’s me!” Serv gave her a deep kiss.

…

After Ser and Alex checked out, they headed back to the diner. This time they both went in.

“I told you she’d come back Henry!”

“SHE CAME BACK FOR ME NOT YOU!” Henry responded

“She came back for the coffee you dummies” Linda scolded

“The coffee was so delicious, we had to get some more for the road. And I figured we could say one last goodbye”

“This must be the boyfriend” Albert sized Servando up.

“Haha, this is Servando, Servando, this is Linda, Albert and Henry”

Servando took his arm from around Alex and went to shake the gentlemen’s hands, and did the same with Linda. Linda grabbed their cups to fill em up.

“How’d you snag this pretty lady” Albert demanded to know

Servando chuckled “I ask myself that everyday sir” Servando put his arm back around Alex as she blushed

“Aww that’s too sweet” Linda

“I was a lost kid when I met her as a freshman in college, and I instantly knew she was special” Servando explained looking at Alex with a smile.

“You better treat her right!” Albert ordered “You don’t find ladies like this anymore these days!”

“I’m gonna use the restroom real quick” Alex excused herself, finding it hard to listen to all the compliments without dying of embarrassment.

When Alex came back, Albert and Henry had unreadable looks on their faces and Servando had a cheeky grin.

“What’d you do to them” Alex giggled

“Haha nothing, nothing at all”

Henry was blatantly staring at her and it was kinda weirding her out, until Linda hit him again.

“YOU ARE GOING TO BREAK ONE OF MY OLD BONES YOU CRAZY WOMAN”

“Well I wouldn’t have to hit you if you would behave yourself!” Linda retorted.

“Here are your coffees, on the house”

“Aw, we can pay, it’s not a problem”

“Nope, this is for putting up with these two…besides, that tip you left earlier is enough for a whole pot” Linda winked.

“Thank you” Alex smiled and hugged Linda over the counter.

“Can I ask one thing? Could we maybe get a couple pictures with you folks to put up on the wall? We like to get most of our repeat customers up on the wall. And you’ve been here twice today, so that counts”

“Of course” Alex and Servando smiled. It was nice to take a picture just because, and not because they’re pro soccer players.

They took pictures with Linda and the cook, and then also with Henry and Albert. Alex gave them all a hug while Serv shook their hands. On the way out Serv ran back to Albert and Henry real quick and showed them something on his phone.

“DAMN” Henry said

“Wowza” Albert added.

“See ya fellas!” Serv waved goodbye

“What was that about?” Alex asked as the walked out

“Just showed them your body paint pictures” Serv said nonchalantly.

Alex slapped him on the arm

“Owww, why’d you do that!”

“You’re ridiculous” Alex said with a hint of a smile, getting in the car.

…

Servando and Alex pulled into the BBVA Compass parking lot and each exhaled a deep sigh. They finally made it to Houston, and they couldn’t be more relieved. Unfortunately, they didn’t know where they were staying yet, and had to stop by the training facility to pick up the keys and get directions to their new place.

Servando groaned as he got out of the car, stretching his muscles that have been in the same sitting position for far too long.

“You wanna come with me?” he asked tiredly

“I’ll wait here, I don’t need to scare everyone away with how I look right now” she joked rubbing her face

“Ok, I’ll be back in a jiffy. And you could never look bad” he winked at her as he walked away.

Alex took that opportunity to lay her head against the window and close her eyes. She was so tired, but she tried her best to stay awake to keep Servando company the whole trip, so a couple minutes now wouldn’t hurt anybody.

…

Servando headed into the building, and found the front office quite easily. He was immediately greeted by one of the people, who already knew who he was. She gave him his key to his new apartment, and a sheet that had his new address as well as some of the Dynamo phone numbers he would need. After they told him what time to come back tomorrow for his tour of the place and to start training with the team, he asked if it was ok if his girlfriend came with him for the tour, and they were more than happy to have her.

As Servando made his way back to the car, he smiled at the sleeping girl in the front seat. He climbed into the car and decided to let her sleep, they were only 5 minutes from the new apartment anyway.

As Serv pulled up to the building that he would be living in for the next 3 months, he was impressed. The place was nicer than he was expecting, and he was actually excited to see the inside. The location was cool too; it was next to a bunch of coffee shops and low-key bars.

Serva parked next to the door so that he could easily unload their junk. He left Alex in the car, surprised that she hadn’t woken up from all the commotion. As he walked through the lobby towards the elevator, he felt nervous for some reason. This was his new home and it just felt exciting. He made it up to the 4th floor and found his apartment at the end of the hall. He took a deep breath and turned the key to his new home. When he walked inside, he was once again impressed. The place was fully furnished in a contemporary style and he loved it. He brought the two suit cases into the 1 of the 2 bedrooms, the one that happened to be the master suite, and laid eyes on the giant king size bed. He debated sitting on it for a second, but decided not to because he knew he’d never get back up.

He checked out the place real quick, and then headed down to get another load. Once he was finished bringing everything up, he decided it was time to wake Alex. He debated on just carrying her up, but knew she would be pissed, especially if any of their new neighbors saw them.

He got back into the driver seat and gently rubbed Alex’s cheek.

“Ali baby, we’re here sweetie” he cooed softly

He shook her shoulder a little and her eyes slowly opened, totally confused on where she was.

She looked around and realized they were definitely not in the stadium parking lot anymore.

“Is this the place?” she asked in a deep sleepy voice, her voice cracking at the end of it.

“It sure is, it’s actually pretty cool, I think you’re going to like it”

Alex just rubbed her eyes, trying to wake up a little bit as Serv parked in their designated spot.

“I didn’t mean to fall asleep, I thought I’d wake up when you came back from getting the key,” she explained

“Baby its ok, you weren’t even asleep that long”

Serv got out and went around and opened the door for Alex and helped her out.

Alex peeked in the backseat, “You brought all the stuff in already?” she asked

“Yeah, its all up there”

“Babe, I woulda helped you, you’re tired too” she said hugging him close

“Al it wasn’t a big deal, it took me like maybe 10 minutes, elevators are totally helpful” he squeezed her close as they walked towards the entrance.

“This place is nice” Alex observed of the lobby

“Wait til you see the apartment” he responded, directing her towards the elevator.

They were quiet as they made their way up to the 4th floor, and Serv brought Alex down to the door that was theirs. Serv unlocked the door and then stopped and looked at Alex.

“I have to pick you up now,” he told her

“What, why, we’re already here” she asked confused

Serv looked embarrassed as he stood there; “You know…the whole…crossing the threshold thing” he rubbed the back of his neck nervously.

Alex thought it was the cutest thing and for that reason and that reason only, she put her arm around his shoulder and let him hoist her up. Not without giving him a soft peck on the lips first.

Serva opened the door and carried Alex in and then walked into the living room and set her on her feet.

“I was half tempted to carry you to bed and make babies with you, but I thought I’d let you check the place out first” Servando joked.

Alex just rolled her eyes at his silly confession and eyed the place. She slowly turned to Servando.

“I love it” she smiled

“I thought you would” Serv smiled back.

He leaned down and gave her a soft deep kiss.

“This is our place now” He whispered

“All ours” Alex whispered back.

Servando brought Alex into the bedroom, and the two immediately snuggled into the sheets.

“Should we nap for a little bit and then go get dinner?” Alex mumbled

“Mmm, yeah, food will be good” Ser agreed, already falling asleep.

He pulled his girlfriend close to him, and kissed her cheek

“I love you Ali, I wouldn’t want to share this place with anyone other than you”

…

For the first time in 2 days, the couple forgot to set an alarm. It was nearing 10:30 pm when Alex’s phone started ringing.

Alex recognized right away that it wasn’t her alarm going off, but instead a call. She reached for her phone blindly on the nightstand.

“Mmm hello?” her deep sleep voice still present, her eyes still closed

“Nice to know you two boneheads are still alive!” Her father chastised.

“Dad?”

“Yes, its your father, whom you forgot to call and tell that you arrived safely” He chastised.

Alex ignored him “What time is it?” she asked seeing that it was dark outside.

“Well if you’re in Houston, it’s about 10:30”

“Pm?” Alex asked…just so confused

Mike chuckled.

“You are not good at waking up darling”

Alex smiled and sighed sleepily.

“Sorry I forgot to call you, we fell asleep pretty quickly” She apologized.

“It’s ok sweetheart, why don’t you call me tomorrow and tell me about the trip and Houston”

“Mmk dad, I love you”

“I love you too Ali cat”

Alex hung up the phone and rolled towards Servando ready to fall asleep again. Just as she was drifting off her stomach growled freakishly loud.

She heard Servando snort in laughter and she pinched him under the blanket.

“Who needs an alarm when you can have Alex Morgan’s stomach growl” he teased

“I thought you were sleeping…” Alex mumbled ignoring him

“I heard your phone go off” he responded.

It was silent as the two woke up a little bit.

“Let’s say we go fill that aggressive sounding tummy up with some food”

Alex pinched him again but agreed nonetheless.

The two changed their clothes and decided to walk down to a Bar and Grille that Servando had noticed on their way in. Neither one of them were quite ready to get back in the car just yet. They held hands as they walked down the sidewalk in their new city, each appreciating the time in their own way. When they sat down at a tabletop and opened the menu Alex got a serious look on her face.

“Oh no” she drawled sadly

“What?” Servando asked curiously

“I can’t live here”

Serv chuckled “Why is that”

“I’m going to get fat” Alex said seriously, looking at all the food choices

Serv let out a deep laugh “I highly doubt that, and even if you did, I’d still love ya” he smiled as he leaned over and gave her a quick peck on the lips.

“You have to say that” Alex grumbled with a hint of a smile.

After eating way too much food, and slurping it down with beers, the two were highly satisfied.

“I’m gonna have to run like 20 miles just to burn that meal off” Alex moaned rubbing her belly as the two walked back.

“You could use a little meat on you, then maybe you could become the hunter instead of the prey out on the field” he teased

Alex rolled her eyes as she grabbed his hand and leaned against his shoulder.

“I think we’re gonna like it here Ser”

“I think so too Ali. Oh by the way, I have to go for a tour tomorrow, you should join me” Serva suggested

Alex got an uneasy look on her face “I don’t know Ser, this is kind of your thing, I don’t really want to intrude on it,” she recalled remembering what he had said about ‘the almighty Alex Morgan being his chaperone.’

“This is our adventure Alex, not just mine. I want you there with me. Maybe they’ll even let you workout there” He put his arm around her

Alex sighed and continued walking, still feeling a little uneasy about it.

“We’ll see,” she said softly

As they walked back into the apartment, they decided to check out what was on the TV for a little bit.

They sat on the couch, Alex tucked under Serva’s arm as they watched some Sports Center.

“You know…” Serv started.

“What?” Alex mumbled.

“We should probably get the christening over with” Servando said with a hint of humor in his voice

“The christening?” Alex asked, not getting it.

“I mean, we have to christen the place so it’s officially ours” Serv wagged his eyebrows when she looked up at him.

He chuckled when realization came across her face.

“And where do you want this christening to take place” she teased back.

“I think there are several places that need christening, but this couch would be a good start”

“Hmmm, I thought you’d say that” Alex giggled

Serv pulled Alex onto his lap and kissed her romantically. He shifted her so she was straddling him, and continued to kiss her.

“Yeah, I think this is the perfect place to start” He said while leaving kisses along her neck down to her collarbone.

Alex didn’t say anything; she just brought his lips back to hers, and kissed him passionately.

After christening the living room, the shower, and eventually the bedroom, the two were completely wiped out. They snuggled close, and fell asleep holding each other. It was the best sleep they’ve had in days.

The next morning, the two got up and walked down to a coffee shop, not having any coffee in the apartment quite yet. Alex laughed to herself that they probably would have ended up christening the kitchen while waiting for the coffee to brew.

After breakfast, the two found a local Target nearby and went and got some household essentials.

Once they got back they started to unpack everything. Alex neatly put Servando’s clothes in the dresser provided, while Serv put the clothes that were already on hangers, into his new closet.

“Yeah, having you pack for me was a great idea” Serva said as he dusted his hands in an ‘all done motion.’

“Yeah, you don’t get credit for that, it was all my idea” Alex huffed still putting clothes back in the drawers.

“And I love you for it” He patted her head.

“Yeah yeah…”

Once they were all done unpacking, Servando eventually convinced Alex to come with him to the stadium.

The two walked hand in hand into the Dynamo Front office and were immediately greeted by Stephanie Gonzalez. She was nice and peppy and very very short. She welcomed Servando to the team, and fan girled about meeting Alex. Alex blushed while Serv smiled in adoration.

Stephanie brought them throughout the training facility, starting with the workout gym, and ending with the practice fields, and then bringing them to the actual game day field. After all that, she brought them to the locker room where she showed Serva his new locker. Serv was a little overwhelmed, but excited at the same time, this was all his now, and it was definitely nicer than Seattle’s facility.

After that she showed them the entertainment room hooked up with Xbox’s, computers, pool tables and couches, she handed Servando a key card that would give him access to all these different places. She then handed Alex one.

Alex looked at her questioningly.

“Well, we know you need a place to workout, so that key card will get you into the gym here. For your use whenever you need” Stephanie explained

“Wow, thank you so much” Alex was truly grateful

…

Later that day, Servando had his first full training with his team. That left Alex home alone and trying to make the place a little bit more ‘theirs.’

She hung some of Serva’s artwork up, as well as set up his Xbox, because she knew he wouldn’t last long without it. She also went shopping again, and got some of their favorite foods to stock up on for when she was gone. She changed the sheets on the bed to the ones that they used back in Seattle, and organized their bathroom stuff the way that they liked. Before long she got a call from Sydney.

“Hey Canucklehead”

“I’m half american” Syd retorted

“Haha and half Canuck” Alex teased

“Whatever, I’m in Seattle lets hang out”

“Ooh sorry Syd, I’m in Houston with Ser”

“Oh you guys left already? How do you like it?”

“It’s not bad, the facilities are really nice, and the apartment they hooked us up with is legit”

“Is it up to your Superstar Standards” Syd joked

“You’re dumb”

“Dude, I can’t wait for Hawaii” Sydney exclaimed

“Oh I know, and I can’t wait to see Abby finally marry Sarah”

“Forget about them, you, me, the beach, and booze, we’re going to live it up”

“Why do I have the feeling you’re going to get me in some sort of trouble” Alex asked

“Oh don’t be such a baby, it’s going to be great” the younger one reassured

“If you say so” Alex laughed

Once the two hung up, Alex called her dad and filled him in on everything, and talked a little bit about what was going on with her back in Napa. After that, Alex took a nap and waited for Serv to get home.

When she woke up a little while later, he wasn’t anywhere in sight. Usually, if she was napping, he would lie down and join her, and he should have been home by now. She got up and walked down the hallway into the main living area and when she did her mouth dropped open in surprise.

There was Servando putting the finishing touches on a very nicely set table. When he looked up, he grabbed a vase of flowers on the counter and walked over to Alex smiling.

“These are for you baby” He said handing her the roses

“They’re so pretty Ser, what are they for?” She asked, silently hoping that he was gearing up to kneel on one knee.

“Just to show you my appreciation. After the way I treated you before you left, and for helping me with the move, I just felt like you deserved a nice night” He explained while leaning in and giving her a soft kiss.

Alex closed her eyes and deepened the kiss and then held him close, while trying to block out the disappointment of him not asking.

“Thank you” she whispered, “I love it, and I love you” She kissed him again

“I love you too baby. And I think you’re going to love this food too!”

“I’ll love anything you make me babe” she winked.

Serv held the chair out for her and then scooted her in towards the table. He then poured her a glass of the wine that she brought back from Napa, and then served her some salad.

“Hmm baby, this dressing is delicious, I love it” Alex complimented.

“Yeah, it’s raspberry vinaigrette, I thought you’d like it” he smiled

Once they finished that, Serv brought out the main dish.

“Seared ahi tuna, with a soy-peanut sauce drizzled on top, with herb roasted potatoes and asparagus” he introduced

“Wow baby, you made all this?” Alex was shocked

“I did! Just for you Ali” He answered as he dished her up

“I’m so impressed, this looks amazing!”

“Well dig in and tell me how it tastes!” Serv ordered

The meal was obviously to die for, and Alex had a slight inclination that maybe his mother helped him figure out how to cook this, but she didn’t really care, it was delicious.

“Baby, you’re going to have to cook more often, that was out of this world. I’m so full!” Alex complimented

“Well I hope you saved room for dessert” Ser hinted

“Oooh what is it!”

Serva laughed, it doesn’t matter how full Alex is, she’ll find room for dessert.

“Beep, beep, beep” the oven chimed

“That’s it now darling, I’ll go get it”

When Servando came back, Alex’s mouth instantly watered at the gooey caramel brownies that Serv was setting on the table. Alex immediately went to reach for them when Ser slapped her hand.

“Not yet, there’s one more thing” He walked back to the kitchen.

When he came back, he had a container of vanilla ice cream.

“Brownies and ice cream?!” Alex couldn’t contain her excitement.

“You don’t think I could forget your favorite dessert do you!” Serv teased.

The two ate the yummy dessert and Alex literally couldn’t move she was so full.

“Baby, I think I’m going to burst” Alex moaned

Servando laughed at his girlfriend, loving that he could do this for her. He got up and picked her up and brought her to the living room.

“Don’t burst, we still have to pay a security deposit on this place and that could get messy” he teased giving her a peck on the cheek.

He set her down on the couch, and then went and lit some candles to create a nice atmosphere. He turned on some soft music and then went back to his girl.

He lay down on the couch next to her and pulled her close.

“Thank you so much Ser, that was so wonderful and unexpected” Alex left little kisses on his face.

“Baby I just wanted to say thank you and I’m sorry for how I treated you before. I never want to do that to you again, and I hope you forgive me” He meant it

“I was never upset with you Ser, I was just so scared of losing you” She pulled him tighter.

“You aren’t going to lose me Al, not ever” He gave her a peck on the crown of her head.

The two lay there holding each other and leaving little kisses on each other every once in awhile. It was the perfect evening and Alex was so thankful for this amazing man holding her.

Later that night after they finished a favorite certain activity of theirs, Alex thought back on the events of the evening.

While she loved everything that Ser had done for her, she couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed and a little bit silly for thinking that he was going to propose to her. It was just so out of the ordinary for him to do something like that, and her mind just jumped to that conclusion.

She knew that she was ready to be his wife, but what scared her was that maybe he wasn’t. They had been together for quite some time now, and she couldn’t help but worry that maybe he still had doubts and that’s why he hasn’t asked yet. She pushed the thoughts out of her mind and cuddled into the man that she hoped would be her husband some day.

Servando on the other hand had Alex right where he wanted her. He decided on when he would propose to her, and he wanted to tease her a bit along the way. Of course he wanted to thank her and say he was sorry, but he also wanted to be a little bit cruel and get her hopes up, just to make the moment when he actually did it all the more special. He closed his eyes holding his future fiancé dangerously close and fell asleep with a genuinely happy smile on his face.
