Enjin will hear a voice message for you and melt into the leather of his seat. Practically 'becoming one with the Jeep'.
After a day filled with nothing but the strangled roaring of trash beasts? It's music to his ears.
The gentle, familiar kind his muscles can't help but soften for.
Outside, a trash storm pelts against the mouth of the tiny cave they've parked beneath — thick sheets of junk clattering against stone hard enough to shake the Jeep every few seconds.
"Enjin...how many times are you gonna listen to that thing?" Rudo asks with mild concern, leaning over the center console.
The words fly right over Enjin's head as he lifts the phone to his ear. Rewinding that specific part.
'Can't wait to see youuu.'
Nothing beats the sound of your smile. Your words light — quick as they ease into that giddy tone. It never fails to settle warm beneath his ribs.
'Can't wait to see youuu,' it chimes once again — causing Enjin to clutch his chest. Fabric threading between the webbing of each finger. Like he's physically trying to keep his heart from spilling out.
To make matters worse. Enjin mumbles to himself. "Mm. Needed that." Too Casual, for someone surrounded by trash striking the floor with enough force to crack the earth open.
Zanka and Riyo remain unfazed in the backseat. Choosing to fill the time with light conversation.
Like it's normal to see this — six-foot unit of a man slouching so far down it would put puddles to shame.
"Is he okay?" Rudo looks at them. Blinks. Then returns his gaze to Enjin.
Riyo waves a palm, "Ehh, you get used to it." and bits of amusement thread through her scoff.
Without further questioning, Rudo just watches the entire interaction. Enjin records a message. Waits for you to send one back. Listens to yours an ungodly number of times while smiling to himself.
Until the collection of trash pouring from the sky finally clears. Only then does Enjin put the car into gear. Phone still in hand as he groans — stretching.
He holds it up to his lips and presses record. "Gotta leave now, pretty. Duty calls," he sighs, and the sudden wide look he gives the rearview mirror is of someone who forgot he wasn't alone. "Also, I'm with the kids-"
Enjin twists in his seat, angling the phone's speaker to everyone at the back. "Say hi, guys."
"Uh-" Rudo fumbles, getting not a single word in before the phone gets pulled back.
Enjin hums. Still Pleased. "Alright. I'll see you when I get back. Kisses."
He presses two obnoxiously loud kisses against the speaker before sending it off with a grin too satisfied.
A/n: thought this would be cool.
I literally can't stop writing for Enjin lmao.
