WIP 1

“Judah, can you remind me please to send a scathing letter to—” But Judah wasn’t at his desk. She stopped in front of it, staring at the empty seat, furrowing her brow. Judah was always at his desk. He had a superhuman ability to always be at his desk when she needed him to be. He had a superhuman ability to know exactly what she needed from him, at literally all times, ever. He was the closest thing to actually being legitimately superhuman she thought she’d ever encountered. So why wasn’t he at his desk?

WIP 2

“Well, there’s your answer,” she said. He furrowed his brow in confusion. She twisted her lips, trailing her fingers over the stringy blanket beneath her. “Plucking the information from my mind against my will would’ve been too easy,” she said, quietly. “Crucio-ing me for days to try and make me betray my friends in exchange for my sanity was probably much more fun.” Draco suddenly found himself unable to look away from her.

WIP 3

“Wait a second.” Pansy raised a hand, looking between Harry and Fleur. “Are you telling me The Chosen One is going to be one of the boys prancing around here in swim trunks for the next six weeks? And there’s public voting involved? How disgustingly unfair is that?” Harry stared at her. “I do not prance.” “Not yet he doesn’t.” Ginny smirked. “If you want him to prance you have to slip your finger—” Harry shot her a panicked look. Ginny stopped herself, chuckling quietly.

I have about a bajillion other silly little things I'm working on but nothing set in stone just yet.

WIP Wednesday Friday

Thanks for the tag @sage-pages!!!!!!! By the time these go around I’m always like two days late because of Timezones but here goes

The woman stared down at her desk, chewing her cheek as she began clearly floundering to come up with an excuse. Hermione knew what it would be. Privacy, rules, regulations, policy, et cetera, et cetera. The fact was, Edgecombe could let them in, if she wanted to. It was a judgement call. She glanced over her shoulder, toward the door, and smiled politely at Theo. Inviting him to help Marietta make some questionable choices. Marietta wasn’t an unattractive girl. Her hair was dyed a little too dark for her skin tone, but her eyebrows remained pale, giving her a rather washed out appearance that had always made her fade into the background a little. But she was, to be fair, decent looking. Decent looking enough for Theo to be likely to agree to what she was asking him to do. Theo saw. His eyes widened with realisation. Then they shone. .....(redacted) He stepped out from behind Hermione, biting his lip as he caught his target's eye. "Theo!" she blurted out. "Oh, um... Nott, hello, it's been— um—" Hermione hid her smile. "Marietta," Theo's voice curled seductively between them. "Circe, aren't you looking stunning today?"

A proposal

Sometimes, in fandom, we just want to write id-tastic fic that rolls around in tropes that might be viewed as problematic. But we don’t want to address the problematic side of things in this particular fanwork; we just want to roll around and wallow.

It is considered courteous to give readers a heads-up via use of AO3 tags. I propose a tag that signals that a given fanwork is for rolling around, not giving a measured evaluation of anything. The MCU has carved out a space for this sort of fic with the “HYDRA Trash Party” tag, for which I commend them. Trash Party is a bit too specific to cover all of the ground I’m thinking of here, though; I propose “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.”

For those of you not familiar with Arrested Development, Michael Bluth finds a paper bag in the freezer labeled “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.” He opens the bag, finds a dead dove, and reacts as follows:

The “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” tag would essentially be a “what it says on the tin” metatag, indicating “you see the tropes and concepts tagged here? they are going to appear in this fic. exactly as said. there will not necessarily be any subversion, authorial commentary condemning problematic aspects, or meditation on potential harm. this fic contains dead dove. if you proceed, you should expect to encounter it.”
