Given the nature of their last encounter, Anzu wasn't entirely sure she'd hear from him. Not after embarrassing herself, and yet here she was, azures glued to the screen of her phone that had recently gone off in the middle of a recent Christmas movie binge. Christmas wasn't that important of a holiday to Anzu nor her family, but it was one of the better holidays to end the year with before New Years.
Instead of hastily replying, she was currently seconding guessing herself. Yes, she did want to see him, but all the same was she far too forgiving? Perhaps, but as is her nature. Annoying as it was. They left on..decent terms to say the least, and since he was in town for the holidays, what harm could there have been? Even if he didn't celebrate, it was definitely a nice surprise.
[ ✉️ ]: Yeah, I have no plans today.
[ ✉️ ]: 2 it is. I'll see you then.
Anzu half expected an apology, but it wasn't necessary at this point. If anyone should be apologizing, it would have to be her. It was an awkward exchange, and despite her efforts to forget about the whole ordeal came to a fruitless endeavor. It hurt to be shut out, but perhaps that was her own fault for getting too close.
Oh well, it was too late to change her mind.

“No matter how dark things may get, the special bond I share with my friends will always find a way to shine through!”
Tea Gardner/Anzu Mazaki from Yu-Gi-Oh!
dewanetjer·:
It’d been a few weeks since he had raised the idea with Anzu and if he were honest with himself he had begun to suffer doubts. However long he reasoned with himself that she was genuinely occupied with her studies there were too many other factors at play to let him rest in peace of mind. Somehow the word had gotten out (he’d received quite a few uncomfortable messages from their other friends, well intended or not) and there was every possibility that it had given her cold feet. After all, to someone as observant as Malik, it was no secret that her affections were already promised to another.
What no one seemed to understand was that this wasn’t about cultivating a serious relationship. He had questions that needed answers, value experiences to explore, and a person he could trust to help him navigate the unknown (provided she was still on board).
The text message that at last came was therefore a private relief. A few brief exchanges sealed the deal and the next day he was waiting for her in the cafe she had mentioned. Half a drink was on the table by his phone, keeping him company. He tapped the electronic device, one brow arched. No new notifications. She wasn’t late yet though.
In truth his sister had made far more fuss over what was to come than he had. Despite her advice, which he valued, he was against dressing up for the occasion. He didn’t want to appear that he was trying too hard (or overly investing in what was meant to be casual).
It would have been easy to claim that studies and work were the main focus of Anzu’s attention as of late, but it’d be a cheap excuse and would only make her appear as a coward. Truth of the matter, she was nervous. Word had gotten out about the “date” coming to fruition, and although she did her best to play devil’s advocate and claim it wasn’t anything of the sorts, it didn’t stop the messages that flooded her phone from close friends or the second-hand doubts. Maybe he wouldn’t show..and she’d been taken as the fool.
No, she knew Malik better than that. Or, at least she thought she had. It wasn’t the beginning of a relationship, nor would it be anything besides a chat between friends. To think it could have been anything else was foolish. She was just being a good friend to someone who needed help and advice. Anzu could only hope that this wasn’t a mistake.
Between the texts and the desired place to meet, Anzu could feel nervousness settle in. It was no different than meeting her friends, this wasn’t any different. So why was she suddenly so nervous? Checking the time on her phone, signifying that she wasn’t late just yet, it kept her in somewhat high spirits. Better to be on time than to make him wait and assume she decided not to show up, not after she promised that she’d be there. Curse her kind nature.
Stepping inside the café, azures glanced about for familiarity; the small amount of hope that she wasn’t being set up. Once her eyes fell upon Malik, a breath that she wasn’t aware to be holding released and she stepped forward. Noticing his attire to remain in the casual sense, she almost felt even more stupid for dressing up for the occasion. Oh well, it was far too late to change her mind now.
❝I hope I haven’t kept you waiting. ❞
Malik:
❛ Its not what my father would have wanted for me. ❜
Therein lay the heart of his problem. It was no easy feat to live up to the expectations of the dead! He couldn’t beseech his father, seek advice from or explain to, by fault of his own hands. What few prayers he offered were solemn and always without answer.
PERHAPS HE DESERVED THE SILENCE?
Yet shunned as he was Malik was averse to thinking himself helpless.
❛ I thought the same thing. There’s no way to know without trying things for myself. ❜
He could take this matter into his own hands. The path required more humility than courage for the matter was a delicate one. Dark deeds weighed much, often threatening to crack the ground beneath his feet and swallow him, and there was no shortage of ill in her company. She was one of many that he’d wronged in the pursuit of freedom.
However that was precisely why he felt there was a chance to be understood. A new face would have too many questions, too soon, with answers too difficult to hear.
❛ …If I’m asking too much, you can just say no. But if I’m not, if this is… okay… would you spend a day with me? Like that. ❜
On a date.
❛ …Please? ❜
❝Maybe it's not, but you don't always have to live by the expectations of your parents.❞
For all their differences and diverse upbringing, the brunette knew there were unspoken expectations. That from not only his siblings, but also from his namesake. Anzu knew little of his personal life, what she knew only came from the few times he took control, manipulating her mind but all the same, her knowledge of the Egyptian was limited. Malik wasn't an easy person to read, and she supposed that's what made him interesting.
❝Somethings you just have to experiment for yourself before you know for certain.❞
Frankly, Anzu must've been considered crazy to believe something in this exchange would work in their favour. The pains of the past could heal, she could overlook them, it wasn't entirely his fault. He had his own aspirations for freedom, and although small, Anzu had some part in it. That much, she could be proud of.
Blinking slowly, Anzu could see the nervousness within him, how unsure and scattered his thoughts were. To see someone usually so confident so nervous all of a sudden was a surprise in itself, but to hear him practically asking her out..even more so.
❝You're not asking too much, Malik. I'd like that.❞
damn ishizu's a savage
dewanetjer:
❛ My sister thinks I’m gay. ❜
Regrettably this wasn’t the first time he’d had to strike the same conversation with Anzu. A curious bystander turned their eyes toward them only to be rebuked by Malik’s glance alone. His countenance was stern, almost frightening to be pierced by, such was the strength of his will. While the stranger thusly thought better of their interest (and curbed it whilst moving along) Malik remained toe to toe with the promising ballerina.
This time he wouldn’t let her brush it off in the same casual manner Ishizu had.
❛ …I know that’s a sudden thing to say but there aren’t a lot of ways to say something like that without being vague. I just want to know if that’s what you think about me, as well. ❜
Had this been any other person, or any other random encounter, Anzu would have brushed it off as some..sort of joke. A laughing matter that she could have easily forgotten about within the next few moments, but judging by the expression Malik wore and the sincerity within his tone, it was far from being just a simple joke.
❝Your..sister..thinks that?❞ She questioned, natural curiosity and confusion mixed together but it was clear she understood the situation. It was obvious that he wanted to see if she believed the same, but the fact of the matter was that Anzu didn't know him all too well. Save for the fact he's been in her mind only once before, but still, who was she to judge someone she barely knew?
A comforting smile graced cherry lips, hues softening as she stared at the other, somewhat frazzled and unsure of himself but that was nothing new to her. Wasn't like she didn't see this sort of thing before with her friends, except in a much different situation.
❝Personally, Malik, I'm not one to assume things about others when it comes to their sexual preferences. You..probably haven't been on a date with either sexes to really determine what you're more attracted to. It's..something you have to find out for yourself, really. It shouldn't matter what other people think of you, because whether or not it's true still doesn't define you as a person.❞
"---Ishizu thinks I'm gay."
@dewanetjer
❝–Well, are you?❞ It wasn’t necessarily a question to be asking someone who probably had no idea considering he lived his entire young life in a tomb underground. Then again, weren’t they technically on a “date”? Was it safe to call it that? She didn’t entirely know.
❝I’m not here to judge you, Malik, but if you are then that’s okay.❞
He knew he did not need an excuse-but he couldn't miss the opportunity that presented itself. Gently taking her hand, Yuugi pulled her close-his lips clashing against hers gently, free arm wrapped around her waist as he held her closer to himself.
@kingxhearted
Unexpected affection was by far Anzu’s favourite form of love, especially when it was coming from someone she actually loved. While giving him a great tour of where she was currently living, seeing as he was planning to stay for a little while as a surprise visit, Anzu hadn’t anticipated him to suddenly grab her hand. Shutting her up but also grabbing her attention rather quickly.
❝Yuugi?❞ She asked, but his name was short lived on her tongue when he pulled her in close, feeling his heart pounding within his chest. The little space between their bodies didn’t last too long before she felt a pair of soft lips encasing her own. Instead of pushing him away or pulling away, Anzu stayed and felt her legs quiver as if about to collapse from her weight. Wrapping her arms securely around the male’s neck, light pink fingernails found their way inside of his hair, as if pulling him closer.
Anzu wanted this moment to last forever, and of course there were always going to be more opportunities to steal kisses from him, but none as amazing as the one they were sharing now.

Summer in Japan was always rather..unpredictable. Were it not for rapid heat waves or sudden rainstorms, no one would be able to tell what was going to be the norm for today. While the weather said it wasn’t going to rain, everyone took relief, seeing as it’s been raining the last three days without a break and for once, the sun beaming down was better than the bitter chill of rain.
Until, of course the sky became darker and Anzu could feel just sprinkles of what eventually turned into a downpour. Having gone out without her umbrella, the brunette, now drenched to the bone was seeking shelter under a sun shade in the hopes that it’ll lighten up just enough for her to get home. After fifteen minutes, it didn’t seem to be doing it like she hoped.
Just her luck, huh?
With the sound of rain smacking against the pavement and the rapid traffic, Anzu was barely paying attention to her surroundings, eyes of sapphire lost in thought as she stared off into seemingly nothing in particular. Not really noticing someone coming towards her out of the corner of her eye, but she didn’t really need to notice them to say something, seeing as they would have found her pathetic for not bringing her umbrella and seeking temporary sanctuary.
❝Go ahead and laugh, but I’m not the only one who forgot an umbrella, you know..❞

There was definitely no place like home, especially when she lived abroad for the last six months. Finally settled back in Japan for the summer break felt like a relief, being around people she's known all her life and not having to worry about speaking a different language for once. It was a relief, really. Even more when she spent a lot of her break either working or curled up in Yuugi's bed, watching him play games or watching whatever appealed to them at that moment.
It was only when she had to get ready for work that the male had alternative plans for her. Immediately, she felt strong arms snake themselves around her waist and pull her back down on the bed, keeping her in place.
❝Yuugi, c'mon..I can't be late.❞

Anzu was the type of girl not to hold grudges, but rather to let the past go. When it came to certain people, experiences varied and it can (and will be) become more difficult. In Malik's case, though he tried to make it up to her, or so she wanted to believe. How was she to know he wasn't planning another malicious intent? Funnily enough, Anzu wanted to believe the Ishtar had..changed.
Please, don't let her intuition be wrong..
❝So, what's the real reason you called me out here, Malik..? I don't think you specified when you asked.❞

❝I didn't think the great Seto Kaiba would come visit New York just for a dance recital.~❞ A delicate tease left the brunette, somewhat out of breath from both having to catch up and finishing the recital that counted a heavy amount of her final grade. Then again, Anzu could have mistaken his rather..unexpected visit for a business inquiry.
Whatever the case, Anzu was..thankful for his presence. They didn't know each other well, and no doubt did she consider him an ass at times, but she was..happy to see him here.
Like for a random starter!
