The Secret of Good Posture launch date

The Secret of Good Posture: A Physical Therapist’s Perspective on Freedom is a 16-page altered pamphlet that depicts the relationship between twenty first century freedom and personal postures. Several processes have been employed in the making, such as détournement and Oulipian constraints. Available in 2 versions. Recommended to be used in stereo (both pamphlets) for best results. Includes easy-to-follow diagrams and instructions. Buy a copy here. Published by Manchester based Team Trident Press (publishers of NOUS Magazine, amongst others). There will be various launch events in Porto, Manchester & Bristol.

Following on from Servant Drone (KF&S Press 2015) experimental collaborative work by bruno neiva and I has gathered pace and we’re very pleased to say Team Trident Press will be publishing The Secret of Good Posture.

Bristol launch for Servant Drone

As bruno was unable to travel to Bristol last Friday, Paul and poet Sarer Scotthorne read nearly all of Servant Drone, Sarer reading bruno’s text. We read at the Bloom & Curll Bookshop to a lively crowd, well supported by Bristol/Porto Association members. Liz Gamlin, the BPA chairwoman introduced the readings, and the event was filmed by Jason (Bloom & Curll).

It was an intimate, improvised reading to which Sarer really pushed bruno’s poems into new dimensions. The Buddha Box made another successful appearance.

Many thanks to all who attended and improvised with us. Cheers to Jason for letting us loose in the Bloom & Curll Bookshop. There will be film footage to follow.

Gato Vadio launch: Porto

bruno and I had a fantastic launch and improvised collaborative reading for Servant Drone night at Gato Vadio on Saturday 19th March. The event was filmed and will be available in the near future. We read the whole of the experimental text book with a break in the middle and took questions afterwards.

The audience were receptive, engaging and generous in their feedback, and took part in the performance with gusto!

It was one of the best poetry readings I’ve ever taken part in and both bruno and I were very happy with the evening and with Bristol Porto Association for their support.

Gato Vadio is renown in Portugal as being an important cultural landmark for its promotion and support of experimental and radical arts, including cinema, poetry, writing and art. Xerox/experimental poet/artist Cesar Figueiredo and lsabel, who run the bookshop/gallery/performance space were gracious and generous hosts and this was the first time they had had a launch and reading of experimental work given in English. The shop is a well-known stockist of experimental literature and art, much of which is rare and hard to get hold of in Portugal.We were given a stirring introduction by Rui Torres, who is Associate Professor at University Fernando Pessoa, Portugal. He is the Director of the academic journal Cibertextualidades, and member of several editorial boards and scientific committees of other Journals in the field of electronic literature. He is an author of digital poetry, having his poems published in several Anthologies (ELC2, ELMCIP) and CD-ROMs. He was the Principal Investigator of the project PO.EX’70-80 (funded by the Portuguese Science Foundation and the European Union), and is the coordinator of the resulting Digital Archive of Portuguese Experimental Poetry (www.po-ex.net), a member of CELL-Consortium on Electronic Literature. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Electronic Literature Organization. It was an honour to meet him and the three of us talked up plans for collaborative work. bruno had work on exhibition at Gato Vadio as well . . .

There is another Servant Drone launch on Friday March 25th in the UK at Bloom and Curll Bookshop, 72 Colston Street, Bristol BS1 5BB. Paul will be reading and poet Sarer Scotthorne will be reading bruno’s poems (in his abscence). It starts at 6.30 pm and is free.

Steve Spence reviews Servant Drone

Over at Stride Magazine, Servant Drone was reviewed by Steve Spence;

‘There is humour, political suggestion, fragmentary  sequencing and splicing to create strange juxtapositions. These are 'naked'  texts in the sense that the texture of the writing is foregrounded and any  'aboutness' is as much supplied by the reader as the author.’

A Servant Drone poem was published in the Dada journal, Maintenant 9. The spirit of Dada continues to thrive in this stunning annual collection of provocative and disruptive Dada-inspired art and writing culled from a plethora of top international contributors, with 50+ color images. MAINTENANT 9: A JOURNAL OF CONTEMPORARY DADA WRITING AND ART is the latest edition of an annual collection of contemporary Dada work inspired by Dada instigator and Three Rooms Press spiritual advisor Arthur Cravan. This year’s theme, “Tech-No Prisoners,” features art illustrating the increasing dependence on technology taken to its most dystopian and absurd extremes. It features work by a wide range in internationally-renowned Dada artist and writers including Fluxus leader John M. Bennett, punk rock legends Grant Hart, Mike Watt, Exene Cervenka, and Alice Bag, poet and Zapp comix founder Charles Plymell, world-renowned contemporary artists Raymond Pettibon and Mark Kostabi, provocative outsider artists Claude Pélieu and Mary Beach, controversial Japanese artist Rokudenashiko (Megumi Igarashi), and many more.

Servant Drone collaborator Paul Hawkins has a new avant-guard poetry/collage collection out on November 12th on Influx Press.

PLACE WASTE DISSENT is a book that takes the aesthetics of poetry as seriously as the occupation and protests that inspired its writing. Having spent three years in the early 1990s occupying properties and protesting in Claremont Road, east London, poet Paul Hawkins maps the run-off, rackets and resistance along the route of the proposed M11 Link Road.

Using the voices of Dolly Watson and many others in avant-garde experimental text and lo-fi collage, he explores place, waste and dissent; the stake the Thatcher/Major Tory government was driving into the heart of the UK.

From Claremont Road to Cameron via surveillance culture and Occupy: transient-beta memory traces re-surfacing along the A12. This collection is an important reflection on a historic site of resistance, offering us illumination, ideas and inspiration for the future.

The collage is taken from photographs by Julia Guest, Maureen Measure, Steve Ryan, Sarer Scotthorne, Susan Worth and personal photographs by Paul. On each page of the book text and images have been hand-cut and pasted together by Paul, and, in a long sequence of text/image called Flea, by poet Sarer Scotthorne.
