A worthy project for sure. I would think about adding in local law enforcement because they encounter the homeless population during the hyper vigilant night period when the social organizations can not safely engage with them. The hidden nature of the homeless population along with the fact that a fair amount of the homeless population need services despite willfully avoiding support organizations and shelters. It's a tough problem and as a veteran I hope that a viable design is implemented.

It is still early in the shift to 3D printed clothing, but I think designing services for the next evolution of brick and mortar retail is going to be exciting.

Social for all Service Designers on the roof at Churchill's at 8pm this Thursday. This will be the last time we get together until next fall so come out and have a drink or some food with your fellow Service Designers. We are such a small community this could be your last chance to network with the those of us who are graduating. No matter how crazy the quarter is for you everyone has to eat so take a break and relax. If you under age or just don't drink, the food is pretty good and it is an affordable place. The social will start at 8pm and probably be done by 10. If you have any questions inbox me.

A quick prototype after a meeting is a way to show the client you are listening and also a way to jump start an iterative and rough prototyping process.

Telling a good story is the key to any presentation. I am fortunate to have the help of a great organization for the social innovation part of my thesis project.

Using lo-fi paper sketches and the iPhone App “Prototype On Paper” We were able to quickly sketch out an interface and make a very quick idea testable.

Short and to the point. Some simple principles to employ during prototyping services and procedures.

JC Penny is yet another example of an established company's failure to treat innovation differently then other business processes. In my opinion, JCP made two critical mistakes, they abandoned the customer base that made them old, but profitable. Second, they brought in high profile people that had success at Apple and Target without embracing the culture of either Apple or Target inside JCP. When organizations are attempting to shift from business to design leadership it is often untidy and failure must be embraced. In the end, JCP tried to change more aspects of their company then the company was ready to absorb. Lower prices everyday should not be hard to embrace, but when your customer base is in their 50s and older, coupons are how their shopping culture interprets a "good deal." Finally, innovation is exciting yet rout with great risk. I believe an organization can mitigate transitional risk, but understanding your core user-base might keep an organization going in the right direction as it seeks to gain a new core customer-group.

several people have asked before how i draw expressions and i never really know what to say except to just study the faces other people make. look up references on expressions like shock, anger, surprise, etc. or, as i usually do, take photos yourself and use those as reference images. sometimes a mirror is a surprisingly good reference helper.

one thing i try to keep note of are the wrinkles on the bridge of the nose. whenever someone is snarling or making a disgusted face, there are going to be tons of wrinkles around the top of the nose, and at the corners of the eyes. but the problem is that even an angry face can look different without the wrinkles. adding in those few lines, regardless of the expression, can make a world of a difference with the look the person is giving, so keep those in mind.

This is the beginning of my thesis wall in the Grad Space at the Gulfstream Center for Design. My research question at this point is : How can Service Design improve Quality of Life for Returning military Service Members and their families?
