Honestly, these books? I don’t remember them. But I will tell you this: I make art that’s disturbing. And I hope to inflict it on children. And all people. And I hope that, through the disturbing, we get to some place better. Hansel and Greta? Fuck em. But... if we can’t see stories for what they are (especially within their generation’s time frame), then guess what? We are fucked. This is not the way forward. The first step towards building a future where all are welcome, where we can draw from the strength of our diversity, where we can all walk into the light of a better tomorrow together does not start with Doctor Seuss. It starts with Donald trump. And if we aren’t smart enough to handle that, if we are too fucking ignorant and illiterate (of letters and history and fairy tales) to be able to see these things for what they are... then we are lost. We are lost. NOW THAT BEING SAID (and damnit: yes im drunk and yes I’m angry): works that “otherize” (especially for children, who are not mature enough to judge such subjects with the meta-semiotic eye of historical context)... those are bad things for children. I think that (at least 60 percent of America) can at least agree that children shouldn’t be fed stereotypes of people that might not look or speak or act like them from grade school onwards, especially until our young ones are capable of understanding that such grotesque stereotypes are wrong and that their depiction in allegory, song, and fiction were so hurtful, and not to be a emulated, but were a product of their time... We should not CELEBRATE this jarring and difficult cognitive dissonance, but we should explain it. This is the only way forward. I find it so remarkable, how many of my fellow white entitled peeps-like-me want to just “magically undo” so many of these moral abs intellectual failures, as if we (with our 21st century eyes, and GOD WILLING IF THERE IS ONE, hopeful intent to shield people from things that attack and otheri4 them, that denigrate and insult them for the very things that make them inherently who they are from birth)... so many of us think that w would be against slavery. Now my emulsion drying box (rack space for between 5-10+ frames, using cheap plywood and $20 of 1/4-20 1-1/4-inch bolts nuts and washer) is square! ISH. Point is: it holds the frames that make the emulsion sing. Tomorrow, it goes into a giant garbage bag that gets nail gunned like a tarp to the top back and bottom, and will be put into use!

Ermagerd: I love my little power planer. For those of us who don’t have the money, the space, or the workload necessity for a frigging planer or joiner (I don’t even have space for a table saw for fucksake; how am I gonna spend like $4k for a frigging planer and joiner), the slightly more affordable ($50) https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OW5AJTG?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title handheld power planer is great for DIY/crafty alternative.

Here are three photos of the mini workbench I am working on. The first two, look at the far board (the one furthest from the camera): that board had a twist on the end of it that made the last 1/3rd look like a hump. 6 passes with the planer and see how flat it looks now.

The third pic is front ortho of the middle of the first board; notice how flat it looks?

Obviously, not gonna get perfectly squared lumber this way, but for this little bench, I don’t need it perfectly squared, just close enough for jazz (it’s a mini workbench for Christ sake, not the moon landing), BUT: this would have been at least an hour of tedious sanding (belt or orbital, it still would have been brutal). I love my little power planer!

Got a Christie statue (capoerista daughter of Eddie Gordo in Tekken world). She’s 1/7 scale, and good lord!!: she is amazingly detailed. Check out her little fingernails and also, the casual observer might notice her gigantic boobs and delicately shaded ass crack and cheecks.

But the biggest news from today: I took the measurements for the exact space in my studio where I wanted a vacuum platen to go. Over the intervening weeks and months, I designed the plans, learned to rip plywood with a circ saw, and a thousand other things including finishing wood and etc etc. over those three months, I had only been back up to the studio 4 or 5 times and only ever to get something; no printing, no looking at the area, nothing. Well, today, I finally took the machine up to the studio, certain that with all the sanding and the janky cuts and the redesign halfway through and my total suck at woodworking that it would be grotesquely fucked/not square, blah. I mouthed “oh my god” when after 3 months of everything being totally fucked, I saw the exact object I had taken the measurements for slot into place perfectly. Blind squirrel FOR THE WIN!!!!!

I have to quit for today; too tired to put the bins up and find all the power tools and put them up, but holy fuck, this was some work (not so much the shelves as everything else in the garage was someplace else in the garage when I began working on creating the space in the garage to add real replacement shelves TO the garage... 6 days. At least 3 hours a day. Good lawd! Been one hell of a merry go round, but shelves are up; bench not yet cleared, and needs to be straightened and stuff, and then need to put my sawhorse table back up after I park my car again but yeah: done for today.

Ok took this screenshot earlier today (which was many work hours ago) but Joke there being (iirc, cause that was a... lot of garage time ago) that it arrives in the distant future, then ships to arrive in its past, and like a fuzzy quantum delta, arrives at my door 15 days in its past, which is still my future, but requires a shitload of quantum chicanery to accomplish.
