@sethclearwaterhere-blog
-They’re just finishing up with dinner when the doorbell rings. Leaving Peter to clean Catori up from where she’d murdered a whole plate of innocent spaghetti, he opens the door to find Seth and Allison…and Derek and Leah. Confused but pleased, he gives Allison a kiss on the cheek as he lets them all in-
Hey, Sweetheart. I didn’t think we’d see you guys until tomorrow for family dinner. Where’s Max and Evan and Isaac?
-Seth is practically bouncing in place, his grin so wide Chris is almost afraid he’s gonna cramp his face, but Derek just says calmly, Max is at a movie with Isaac and Scott, and Allison calls over her shoulder as they make their way to where Cat and Peter have migrated to the living room, Danny and Stiles and Jesse are watching Evan. Practicing for when the monster comes.
She says it fondly, though, so monster sounds more like an endearment than the insult it could be. He blames Ruby, who refuses to call the impending arrival anything but, so that it’s managed to rub off on almost all of them. It’s done a lot toward normalizing the upcoming birth, although Jesse still looks like a panicky mess when he doesn’t think anyone is looking, and Chris has too much experience not to be prepared for the worst possible outcome. But despite it all, things have been good for the last few months. As calm as they’ve ever been for Beacon Hills.
As soon as he thinks it, he blocks it out. He doesn’t want to jinx what they have going on-
Not that this is unwelcome, but what’s behind the visit? Is something wrong?
-Allison opens her mouth but then Seth goes Wait, wait, wait, and whips out his cell phone. Allison rolls her eyes fondly but lets Seth turn on the video function. Okay, okay, you can go.
Chris gives Peter a cautious look, but no one seems upset, so whatever it is, it can’t actually be that bad. Cat clamors over the couch and into Peter’s arms as Allison smiles and starts again.
Dad, I’m pregnant.
Oh. Oh! The camera suddenly makes sense. He’d thought she and Seth would wait longer, especially with all the work she’s been doing with Argent Arms, but he can’t say he’s upset about the prospect of another grandchild-
Oh, honey! That’s wonderful! When are you–
-He doesn’t get to finish, because Seth butts in.
And Derek’s the father!
The fact that Seth is grinning madly as he says it doesn’t register at all, because as soon as the words leave his mouth all Chris can see is red.
Things had been good. Good. Everyone getting along. Even with witches and demons and werewolves and antichrists and monster fetuses, they were all at peace. Happy. And somehow, somehow, Derek had done something to fuck it all up.
The thought barely passes though his brain before he’s launching himself at Derek, reaching for the knife tucked in his belt as he goes-
-The laughter that erupts out of him is nothing short of maniacal. He probably shouldn’t get so much joy out of this but well...Chris has launched himself across the room, tackling Derek to the floor. This is high entertainment.
Derek doesn’t want to actually hurt Chris, though, so all he does is sort of push Chris back which Chris just uses to pull a knife out all graceful like he’d planned it that way.
Leah gets a look on her face like she’s intrigued by watching Allison’s dad straddling her husband. Which, gross. But when the knife comes out her wolf reflexes kick in and she wraps her hand hard enough around Chris’ wrist that he can’t help but drop the knife. She uses her other hand to catch the knife before it hits the floor or Derek.-
Niiiice.
-And he got it all on video.
Peter, still holding Cat, clears his throat. Would someone care to explain this delightful little situation? Because as lovely as it would be to welcome a niece/nephew slash grandchild into the world, I’m hoping our family’s not quite that incestuous.-
-She calculates how quickly Seth can steal the cake if they strike fast and hard, and it’s the deciding factor in her decision to just go for the kill rather than break it slowly-
I’ll do it. -she says abruptly- If you want me to. I’ll be your surrogate. You won’t have to worry about an outsider finding out, and you know I’m capable of protecting myself if the shit hits the fan. Which, lets be honest, it probably will.
-It takes a lot longer than it probably should for the meaning of Allison’s words to sink in. And he thinks, no one could have prepared them for any of this. No one could have prepared them for a world in which a hunter would carry the child of two wolves. No one could have prepared them for a Hale to look at an Argent and see anything but a murderer.
To see, instead, a friend. A fellow warrier. Pack.
He trusts her. And he will never find a way to thank her for this.
But, in the end, it’s not his decision alone. Leah’s face is frozen in shock, staring unblinking at Allison. The pads of his fingers graze down Leah’s wrist until they slide between her own, her palm hot against his.-
Leah?
-She looks blankly between Allison and her brother, who looks back at her with such gentle, encouraging compassion. And then she feels Derek’s hand slip into hers, and the whole world comes back online again.
She knows she should ask more questions, get more clarification, think through it more, but she doesn’t do any of that-
Yes. Yes.
I’m gonna be an uncle again!
-Seth crosses the room and pulls both Derek and Leah into a hug.-
C’mon, Allison, get in here!
-Seth kisses his *wife* slow and sweet, tangling their fingers together. There's a glow to her tonight, a mix of a healthy amount of dancing and (Seth hopes) serious happiness.- Ready to make a break for it?
Yeah. Think I’m ready to have you all to myself. -She looks to where her dad and Peter have a sleeping Evan, and while she’d planned on leaving him with them for the night, they have that certain look about them that says they’re gonna be involved in…other things…if Catori cooperates and goes to sleep. So she squeezes Seth’s hand and goes to Leah instead-
Do you and Derek mind taking Evan tonight? We have all his stuff in the car. Dad was supposed to take him but… -she waves vaguely in her father and Peter’s direction and Leah nods understandingly.
Say no more. I think I’ll see if they want us to take Cat tonight, too. Max will like the slumber party and you know Mom and Charlie will spoil them all rotten-
You’re the best sister in law ever. -She hugs Leah and kisses her cheek and returns immediately to her husband. Her husband-
Let’s get out of here so I can have my way with you.
Right behind you.
-Of course it’s not quite that simple. Allison wants to check on her baby and Seth is perfectly okay with kissing his son goodnight. Then his mom wants to hug him and Allison and this seems to cue everyone to think it is hugging time. Why did they invite so many people to their wedding?
He’s in the middle of being arm punched by Emmett when Nessie appears out of nowhere and captures his attention. A soft hand slips into his and grips. Allison’s voice, amused, breathes against his ear.
Run.
She pulls and they quite literally make a break for it, laughing all the way to the car. Tangling his hands in her hair, Seth chases the taste of her laughter.
He’s never been happier than this moment. Each day with her is finding a new reason to love her. And he gets that for the rest of his life.-
-The sanctuary is full of people. If Seth had ever had a dream wedding in mind, and he never really had thought about it much, he would have wanted to get married on the beach in La Push. But when they’d picked November to get married, it’d kind of kiboshed that idea. The more supernatural of their family wouldn’t have minded so much but Allison had flatly said she wasn’t having a bright red runny nose on her wedding day. Let alone Evan being whiny and cold.
Speaking of supernatural, Seth’s not sure he can even count the number of different species at his wedding. Shifters, werewolves, demons (with little hybrid baby in tow), witches, and a cambion in a pear tree. Sam had even joked that it would be him managing to surround himself with every type under the sun. Seth’s pretty damn proud of that.
A hand suddenly smacks over his eyes.-
Um, Jake?
-Allison’s peaking out of the back.
Seth breaks out in a huge grin.-
Really???
-He tries to get out from behind Jake’s hand so he can see her but Jake suddenly has a million arms and is screeching like an old grandma about bad luck seeing the bride before the wedding. Seth straightens his coat when he finally gets free, Allison being long gone.-
Yeah, I’ll remember this when it’s you getting married.
-They’re finally here. After everything they’ve been through, after everything they’ve survived, they’ve finally made it to today. In just a few minutes they’ll become something entirely new. Something she thinks they were always meant to be.
She snickers when she peeks out at the assembled crowd (and it is a crowd, full of all they’re La Push/Forks family, and all their Beacon Hills family, and all their UU family to boot) and Jake lunges to cover Seth’s eyes before he sees her. She knows there will probably be a tiny part of her that will always worry the imprint has taken any true choice away from Seth, but she’s not stupid enough to let it keep her from being happy, not anymore.
Almost time. You ready?
She looks up at her father, holding his arm out for her to take. He has a small smile on his face and tears trickling out the corners of his eye and she lifts up on her toes and kisses his cheek. It leave a red imprint and Lydia hisses and darts in with a tissue.
Allison! You’re going to ruin your make up and the pictures!
She rolls her eyes as Lydia wipes the mark away and reapplies Allison’s lipstick before returning to her place with Leah and Nessie. Then the music starts up and Catori, with just a little nudging from their father, skips and wanders her way down the aisle, throwing flowers as she goes. Allison hears her dad snort, and when she follows his gaze she sees Peter in the front row, madly coaching Cat with her hands as she goes.
The crowd’s awwws only get louder when Max and Evan appear, Max coaxing Evan along as he toddles unsteadily toward Seth. When he reaches him, he wraps his arms around his leg and steps on his shoe and refuses to be untangled no matter how Max tries. Which is totally okay as far as she’s concerned. It’s as much his wedding as it is hers and Seth’s.
Finally, Lydia and Leah begin their walk, calming the air of levity that had arisen during the kids’ antics, and when they take their places, Allison slips her arm through her father’s and nods-
Ready, Dad.
-He grins at her through his tears and she steadfastly ignores the prickles at the corners of her own eyes.
Alright. Let’s go-
-Literally everything disappears when he sees Allison. Her eyes are locked on him and she’s smiling and she is so beautiful. From his side, Seth hears an amused Breathe, Clearwater.
He does. And then Evan spots Allison. Seth’s leg is forgotten as his son toddles back down the aisle with a chant of Mama! Mama! Mama!
Laughing, Allison picks him up and kisses him on the cheek. Chris takes him for the rest of the walk and Seth really hopes someone got a picture of that. Then Allison’s hands are sliding into his.-
Hi.
-Her smile, if possible, gets wider. Hi.
Seth’s sure their minister, Mattie, starts talking but he doesn’t hear a thing. Way way too lost in this beautiful woman who’s crazy enough to marry him. Hopefully Jake will kick him when its his cue.-
-Allison hears Mattie talking about joining names and new beginnings and how each generation is a new hope for the one before it, but all she’s really concentrating on is Seth. Seth whose smile is big enough to light up the whole room. Seth whose hands are shaking and who is looking at her like she’s the entire universe. The way he’s always looked at her, even when he’s giving her a noogie or cramming cookies into her face. Seth who is her past and her future and her always now. Seth who is her everything.
Surrounded by the families they were born with, and the families they’ve made, Seth slips her ring on her finger and she places his on his finger. She wishes her mother could be alive to see this, because she thinks that maybe, just maybe, Seth could have changed her mind on the supernatural. But they can’t change the past, they can only write the future, and she’s more than ready to do that.
Mattie asks them the all important question. Together, because that’s how they’ve promised to face anything that comes, and Allison grins as she joins Seth in saying-
I do.
-Then I now pronounce you husband and wife.-
-Seth doesn’t need prompting to kiss his new wife. He’s wanted to do it since the moment he saw her at the end of the aisle. Hoops and hollers rise up around them because their families are totally classy bunches. They end up smiling into the kiss and then laughing, foreheads pressed together and Seth brushing thumbs across her cheeks.
Her eyes are welling up just a little and it makes his do the same. She wipes away a tear that escapes, still laughing, and Seth kisses her palm before she can pull away.-
I love you.
-She kisses him again. Ditto. Now let’s party.-
Yes, ma’am!
-The sanctuary is full of people. If Seth had ever had a dream wedding in mind, and he never really had thought about it much, he would have wanted to get married on the beach in La Push. Luckiest guy in the world!
Yeeeah, remember that whole telepathy thing? It sucks sometimes. But what goes around finally comes around if you wait long enough. I may or may not have just purchased and given the perfect gag gift to my sister and brother-in-law.
Safety first, guys!
