you wanna know why so many lesbians lie and say we have boyfriends instead of girlfriends, or just refrain from saying we’re lesbians when creepy dudes are hitting on us? because 95% of those men don’t see lesbians as real women who exist and are exclusively attracted to other women. whenever they hear the word “lesbian” they automatically start thinking of an unrealistic porn category that was made for them, not actual multifaceted human beings. when you tell a man you’re a lesbian, he will most likely think you’re saying so to get him excited at first

and when you say you have a girlfriend, he either doesn’t take you seriously or gets even MORE excited because men like this are fucking gross. in his mind, women who exclude men from their lives and only date other women literally just don’t exist. its absolutely incomprehensible to him that a woman could live a good life without a man. and when he realizes you’re being serious, thats when it can turn dangerous, which is yet another reason why we refrain from telling men we’re lesbians

theres a surplus of stories out there about women who were sexually harassed, raped, abducted or murdered by men who were hitting on these women prior to them knowing the women were lesbians. i think a lot of people continue to either greatly underestimate how violent men can be towards lesbians or ignore it/don’t care. telling a man that you’re a lesbian and letting him know you’re serious could put you in an extremely dangerous situation

now, i realize that straight women who turn down men can also experience such violence that i listed above, but people love to strip away the homophobia and pure hatred of lesbians that comes with these hate crimes against us. people love to act like it was just another misogynistic crime and it had nothing to do with us being lesbians, and thats just not the case

my point is, men tend to be less aggressive when you lie and say you have a boyfriend. the reason being that i believe these men genuinely think a woman isn’t Truly Claimed if she’s “only” taken by another woman, because apparently a woman always needs a man in her life. and they will get extremely angry if a woman has decided she doesn’t need men for anything at all
