are you ever going to include other characters (killian, carey, kravitz, angus) or is it just going to always be the seven ipre members?

excellent question my dude-- the short answer is yeah, but not for a long time.

now the longer answer is that we are going to be playing the length of the stolen century so it's gonna take a while but we get that like. sometimes you need to shake shit up so we will be allowing our players to play npcs for the worlds we visit to help with different stories and character development. eventually, if and when we reach the end of the stolen century, we ( b & i ) have discussed how we would then bring the rp into the canon storyline and introduce the other characters like carey and killian and avi and johann and of course, everyone's favorite reaper kravitz-- but that won't be for a long while.

you’re tall even for a human—  a natural burly boy with interesting choices in facial hair. thick muttonchops frame your youthful cheeks, looking like a kid who was trying to appear older than they are. you’ve got more scars on your body than any young man should have, trophies and reminders of fights won and lost. the most important thing in your mind is being strong— it’s the thought that sits in the back of your mind: i have to be strong enough.

you’re a young man who has always stuck up for the little guy. there’s never once been a fight that you’ve backed down from, no matter how the odds were stacked against you. that itch for a fight got you into some trouble as a younger man but in the last few years, you’ve buckled down and decided that back alley brawls have no honor— so an adventurer seeking quests would be your lot. too bad there’s yet to be a party to really pick you up. jobs are scarce and everyone- including you- seems to be holding their breath for the Next Great Adventure- an adventure among the stars. when the call comes, magnus rushes in to answer it.

you’re still a kid despite your appearance, approaching life with open and child-like innocence, seeing the world through rose colored glasses and the only concern you have is whether or not you’ll have enough hard candy to last you two whole months outside the material plane. thinking is for other people. you’re young, foolish and inexperienced— all the odds are stacked against you. but that’s never stopped you before. you know that there’s something inside of you that’s worth something, you’re just waiting for a chance to shine. ever heard the quote ‘i wonder which will get you killed faster-- your loyalty or your stubbornness’? yeah, that was basically written about you.

strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet and every animal is a potential companion. you have rustic hospitality coming out your ass and and golden retriever energy—  it’s hard not to like you. at least at first. your juvenile sense of humor can be seen either as endearing or goddamn annoying and it’s a line you constantly walk. ( but you’re not joking not even a little bit about how badly you want to call the captain ‘cap’nport’. ) those big shoulders aren’t just for fighting bad guys and defending the defenseless; they also make excellent spaces to rest your head or cry on.

when you’re a high elf, beauty is just part of the package but you take it to a whole new level entirely. there are no rules when it comes to expressing yourself through dress and mannerisms, bypassing gender stereotypes for men and women and creating something that is wholly taako. and baby, you’re working it. ‘pretty boy’ is a compliment, you want to be the prettiest boy anyone knows. and when you look this good, you should feel this good, right? right? 

H E A R T

just because being beautiful comes naturally, doesn’t mean it comes with a necessarily easy life. years of let downs- growing up being passed around from relative to relative like a seasonal burden- taught you not to rely on anyone. it left you a little callous and closed off from others, keeping everyone you meet at arm’s length. your lack of desire to connect with people isn’t because you’re heartless but more out of self preservation. you wear aloof apathy like a stylish half-cloak, wanting to be wanted but not wanting to reciprocate—beloved by all but emotionally unavailable. instead, you focus all that attention and love into your passion: your cooking. natural talent was just the start and learning to use your magic to enhance your cooking has only elevated you to fantasy gordon ramsey status. 

M I N D

here’s the thing— you’re like, actually a bomb ass wizard. people might not initially think so and unless it directly benefits you, you’re not exactly jumping at the chance to show off but the fact of the matter is, you’re really good at what you do. you’re a pragmatist and you look at all sides of problem to solve it, usually finding something that others would have overlooked. it’s the finding the motivation, or rather giving even the mildest shit about the problem in question, that’s the problem. again, unless it directly benefits you, like, what’s the point? you could spend your time and energy thinking about more important things— like how being one of the first space adventurers is going to boost your brand: taako in space!

the only one who was going to look out for you was you— and your sister. she is your other half and you love her more than you have ever loved anything in this world, even yourself. your devotion to her is absolute, where she goes, you go— and if she decides she wants to go on a space mission, then fuck, i guess we better start calling you rocketman. you suppose becoming celebrity chefs can wait two months. as far as the other members of your crew? you really don’t want these guys to be the ones associated with your entourage.

you, my love, are beyond description. a young adult elf woman with an appearance that changes faster than your underwear do (and you change those bad boys every day!) you learned who you were early in life and found acceptance immediately. transitioning to a woman was easy, especially with someone like taako by your side. you’ve got resting bitch face that could make even the most cold-hearted karens question whether or not they really want to speak to the manager. but you spend just as much time laughing in joyous, raucous glee. you are gorgeous, the perfect yin to your identical twin brother’s yang. 

H E A R T

it’s no secret that you haven’t lived an easy life. you were passed from family member to family member, the only true home you ever knew was with your aunt. but you and taako always found a way to make things work. because of this, you’re adaptable, adventurous, and comfortable with a certain measure of discomfort. truly, it’s this ability to adapt to anything at any point that drew you to the mission. well, that and the sweet digs. you’re viciously protective of your friends and your brother. it takes a lot to push you over the edge of anger, but once you’ve been there, you love wreaking a little havoc (and blowing things up. yeah. you love that.) 

M I N D

how does it feel to not only be a beautiful woman but a fucking kickass wizard on top of it? pretty fucking great, huh. whodathunk that two vagabond elves with excellent fashion sense and culinary talent would kick magic nerd ass and sore to the top of the ipre academy ranks in science and arcana. like it wasn’t particularly hard, it’s a fairly new academy, they’re still working out the kinks but also, you and taako have always been gifted so it totally makes sense that you’d blow all those nerd lords out of the water. no wonder you were picked for this mission. how does it feel to be the fuckin best? goddamn, you really did crush this world-- whatever’s next better watch out.

every hero needs their sidekick- and it was taako’s turn to put the shortpants on. not that you ever doubted that he would be along for the ride- if there’s one thing you can count on in this world that’s served you more than your fair share of disappointments, it’s that taako would always be there when you turn your head. always by your side. these other people though? that was the only real hang up you had about this mission: the whole ‘there’s no i in team’ shit. you’re a little hesitant, that’s all. nothing big. you’re just not real comfortable with having to actively trust your, you know, life with someone else that isn’t taako. it hasn’t worked out that well in the past. but dammit, you wanna see that shit. you wanna know what’s out there. just to see that might be worth the risk-- so you choose trust.

you have broad shoulders, but hardly anyone would actually know—  they’re almost perpetually curved in, trying to make yourself small. you know you’re nothing remarkable to look at- plain face, plain brown hair, plain blue eyes hidden behind glasses-- but you don’t see what others see. those blue eyes spark with imagination and curiosity as you chase your passions in science and arcana, asking questions that no one dares to ask and chasing after the answers. your smile is shy but in moments when you’re not holding tightly to the reins and it catches you off guard, your face lights up with it. you might not see your body as anything but awkward, trying to force it into intangibility by pure force of will but the rest of us? we get to see the glimpses of something quiet and unassuming but still beautiful.

you see the beauty in what others don’t and turn them into something poetic in your heart. you throw everything of yourself into the things that you devote your time to-- they become a part of you, down damn near to coding themselves onto your dna. there’s little you wouldn’t risk to push even further, to test whatever boundaries have kept others from more. though there is another side of you that hesitates, afraid of taking a single step. sometimes it’s easier to run and leap into the unknown than to walk calmly into the face of it one step at a time. approaching this mission though? you didn’t hesitate for a second-- you had applied before the ink was dry on the advertisement. did you expect to be put on the short list and ultimately chosen to be chief science officer? i mean, you had hoped but that doesn’t lessen the absolute fuckin’ joy and pride that wells up in your chest when you think about how you were picked-- you. barold j. bluejeans.

ever since you were a kid, the second your mind grabs hold onto something you lock down on it like a dog taking a bite out of something. it’s never passed your mind if you should ask what if--  the answer is always why not? you spent your youth consuming as much as you could, wanting to learn everything you could about the world and how it works and the logic behind everything but your quest for knowledge didn’t stop at what could be explained by logic and science. your aptitude for magic is rivaled only by your scientific expertise-- it’s what made you such a good pick for the ipre. you were one of the scientists who was brought on early after the light was discovered, focusing specifically on the bonds that connect everything in our known universe and taking that knowledge to help design the science behind the bond engine that powers the ship that’ll take you further than anyone has ever gone. long story short? you’re smart as fuck, boy.

for someone who grew up surrounded by love, it’s not as easy for you to give it out as freely as you have received it. your attention has always been focused on whatever grand question was being answered next instead of those who were helping to answer the question. maybe there’s a part of you that thinks that you wouldn’t be welcome or wanted-- that it was safer to stay at arms length from those around you. the mission provides either a new opportunity or challenge: a two month mission where there is no getting away from six other people. it’s a weird feeling of anxiety and... excitement? an exploratory mission into the planar system to answer all the unanswered questions and maybe by the end of it, you’ll have a friend or two. what could be better?

surprises come in small packages and from the time you were a young gnome, you’ve been proving that. scrappy comes to mind when looking back through the years of standing head, shoulders and torsos shorter than most of the people you dealt with but time has earned you respect and taught others to not judge a book by their very small cover— especially when it might earn them a leaping gnome’s fist to the jaw. who would’ve thought those sturdy little legs held so much power in them?

always took yourself a bit too seriously, didn’t you? you always hated being the butt of the joke, seen as someone who was inherently goofy or juvenile because of his size. you had to work twice as hard, be twice as strong and twice as tough as everyone else just to be seen as something other than the comedic relief. it was so important to you to be seen as something more than a laugh that you have a hard time letting yourself enjoy the more carefree parts of your personality but there are parts of your gnome self that you can’t hide even if you wanted to. your endless curiosity to things higher and greater than yourself has been the guiding light in your life and an expedition like this is something of a soul’s quest for you. your life has become this mission and seeing it to fruition. 

M I N D

so much is hinging on this mission. there’s so many questions that can finally now be answered and you get to be the one to lead the charge into the great unknown and that’s goddamned scary. it’s not at all a lack of confidence in your own abilities to lead or to know your ship- a ship that you helped design and build-- you know that part at least is in the bag. it’s just the unquantifiable unknowns. there’s no telling what can happen once you slip through the material plane-- you could be taking six people, five of them still very young people- to their deaths. but it’s a small risk to pay for a peek of what lies beyond the reaches of your known universe-- what wouldn’t you risk for a glimpse at eternity?

people have a hard time getting close to you. that quest for respect and for people to take you seriously makes you a bit hard to approach. it’s not that you’re unfriendly but that no one quite knows if a joke will land around you. despite how it looks, it’s what’s on the inside that counts and inside, you care deeply for those around you and when you invest your time into someone, you have this unshakeable faith about their abilities and character. this team you picked has been cause for some whispers around the ipre- they’re all good but are they good enough?- and you have been a goddamn tree rooted in the ground of your decision. your faith in these people- however frustrating training and debriefing (no, merle, not that kind of debriefing) can get- is absolute.

you have a quiet grace about you that’s almost reminiscent of royalty. it’s not as if you demand attention, you’re unassuming to be sure, but you carry yourself with such poise that it’s hard for every eye in the room not to be drawn to you. your dark hands are soft- no callouses to mar them- and delicate, the kind of hands that create delicate brush strokes on canvas or dance across the ivory keys of a piano; however they spend most of their time grasping pens, writing in your tight but neat handwriting.

you want to be remembered for something grand and inspiring. most people have read the words you write but have no idea who you are-- you are just another faceless name in the back of people’s minds. it’s not that you seek out the spotlight- no, on the contrary, you’re more than happy to sit on the sidelines-- but just once, it would be nice to be remembered for something incredible. you’re tired of sitting completely on the sidelines- you can’t be satisfied with that when there’s unknowns out there to discover. new worlds, new planes of existence outside of what they know-- no one knows, but you will. you want to be the one to document it, to bring it back to your home and share it with everyone.

M I N D

the world is a loud place but you have incredible focus, able to take in the world around you and cement it in the written word. the amount of focus it takes to write with one hand when the world is carrying on around you, never mind two-- you’re on some next level shit. you’ve been writing for as long as you can remember, weaving stories and telling other peoples stories which is a fascinating work, taking a glimpse into the lives of these people, but the chance to tell a story that no one else ever could? the story that will answer so many questions about life, the universe and everything? that’s the story you want to tell.

maybe there’s a part of you that yearns so deeply to be remembered because you want to feel connected to people. it’s never come easy for you- connecting with people- but gods, you want so badly to be wanted and needed by another person-- for your presence in their life to matter. you want to be a part of something bigger with others who seek the same, bonded by that common goal because that’s the deepest connection you can have with another living creature. it’s a different sort of bond that comes from realizing that you will be immortalizing six other people who dared to do what no one ever had-- that your words can create half-forgotten bedtime stories or epic legends passed down from generation to generation. that’s a hell of a power to have.
