Newt turned back to face them, but his face showed anything but fear. He stood, silently, just staring at them. Thomas stared back, wondering what was going through the older boy’s head.

“Newt!” he called out, running to catch up. “You have to listen to me.”

Newt stopped so suddenly Thomas almost ran into him. The older boy turned to give Thomas such an annoyed look he thought twice about saying anything.

“Make it quick,” Newt said.

Thomas almost balked, not sure how to say what he was thinking. “You’ve gotta let the girl go. Teresa.” He knew that she could only help, that she might still remember something valuable.

“Ah, glad to know you guys are buddies now.” Newt started walking off. “Don’t waste my time, Tommy.”

Headcanon #5: 2003 Leo still struggles with his depression post season 4

This is something I wanted to touch on in Too Many Turtles, but I’m a throw it here: Leo needs a break from being the eldest, dammit.

After season 4 and Leo’s whole depression arc, he isn’t magically recovered. He still has Bad Days ™️ where he becomes very depressed. Mikey, always observant to emotion, sees his brother try to hide this and instead sets aside the day for Leo to have a full spa treatment. Face masks, massage - it starts off jokingly but Mikey sees that Leo actually really needs this (and Raph is scarily skilled at giving massages).

Ok, so maybe Mikey eats the cucumber you are supposed to put over the eyes. But Leo sees the effort his family are doing for him and that matters the most. It isn’t just spa days, either. Mikey just knows when Leo is hurting and makes it his (and Raph and Donny’s) mission to dedicate the day to him. From watching bad soap opera marathons, to even just turtle piling in the pit, it becomes routine.
