I have read “The real problem with “sexting”: Adult complicity in labeling teens “sluts,” “perverts,” and “criminals.” this week. From the website, sexting defined as “the practice of sending sexy words and images from cell phones from person to person. It has suddenly emerged as the newest social problem for American youth. News reports overwhelmingly describe sexting as a new teenage trend which is “alarming,” “dangerous,” and “shocking.” I have known this issue for a while, but I didn’t know this might be charged as child pornography. In the website, there were several case were charged with “child pornography”. These all of cases, they exchanged their photos among their peers and none of them were sold. However, “teens taking pictures of themselves, their partners, and/or their friends are now being labeled and punished as child pornographers by the criminal justice system.” I think this is very important to tell the teens that your “sexting” is illegal and it affects your future. It was sad to see the hope’s parents “practiced tough love on Hope, grounding her for the summer and suspending her cell phone and computer privileges”. I am wondering her parents let her know they are always there for her. She was already in hard situation and her action could no take back. I think she needed to talk someone always available. If parents have a hard time to discuss about it, they can ask her to talk with school counselor. Then, she might not take her life. I have heard this called digital harassment from common sense media site. “Digital harassment is the use of cell phones, social networks, and other communications devices to bully, threaten, and aggressively badger someone. Although it's a form of cyberbullying, digital harassment is a bit different because it usually takes place between two people in a romantic relationship.” As a parent, the kids need to know the online safety and responsible behavior.
