It’s #blackhistorymonth right? Here’s a #blackhistorymoment. I attended this event the Sunday before last that led many of us to get closer to a higher power right? Well I performed at this said event and although we didn’t speak to each other at the event she found me here on IG and expressed her love for the poem I shared. Fast forward to the night of the super blood moon, a night where I had a bonfire to release any energy we didn’t want to carry. It was at my home. The space we have is a safe space for people to be themselves so a group of us got to know each other a little bit better. That led me to find out that she’s a biomedical engineer. That’s dope to me. But anyways the super moon bonfire brought us closer in a sense. I performed another poem. This time from #theseductionofyourmental Books. Last night she came thru to the meal prep party. Made tacos, which is dope cuz I love tacos and I can save on spending money for taco Tuesday lol. She also copped two of @chelleamber and I’s books. Y’all ever sat around and questioned intelligence? Like some of us will get aggravated because of improper word usage because of homophones (witch or aye waist of thyme), or incorrect spelling or grammar usage. Etc etc. as if English is the only language. Try to hold a conversation with someone who’s language you do not speak. Man it’s hard. Not because You’re stupid but because you simply do not know. And that’s okay. Or or “common sense” we often say people lack “common sense” because they don’t live their life like the majority. Or do they? Because we hear often “common sense ain’t common” I believe true intelligence is what we do without thinking or what intuition tells us. How our bodies communicate and respond to other things. Love. Water. Sex. That’s intelligence to me. #ByeJohn

This is a photo of Bayard Rustin. Some of you may not know but this is the guy who organized the march on Washington where Dr. King delivered his famous “I have a Dream” speech. ••••••••••••••••••••••••• Rustin was an advisor to minister Martin Luther King Jr. of the Baptist Church. When King was organizing the public transportation boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, which became known as the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Rustin said, "I think it's fair to say that Dr. King's view of non-violent tactics was almost non-existent when the boycott began. In other words, Dr. King was permitting himself and his children and his home to be protected by guns." Rustin convinced King to abandon the armed protection, including a personal handgun. We don’t hear much about him in history because he was an openly gay man but he was really influential during the Civil Rights Movement. ✊🏾 #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth

Last night one of our neighbors warned us of a potential fine for burning wood in our back yard. I told a few people not to come because of temporary moment of fear. I still wanted to release some things under the moon, fear being one of them. I write the things I wanted to release and let them burn. It immediately worked. I let it burn. Didn’t text anyone else not to come and allowed them to come and release as well. @chelleamber made a taco bake. @imjalisaroberts sage’d and sprayed everyone with lavender water. The moon showed love. It was lit! Shout out to @bitterclearbelly, @thadimplezz, @marinajazelle, & @chailascott (and Michelle) for coming and allowing themselves to be vulnerable. It was love. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••• As the wood turned to embers we were trying to figure out what you see pictured looks like. This morning I realize it looks like lava. One of the essential building blocks for Earth and life as we know it. We all released and received things, made some connections, I even spit a poem lol. I think it’s safe to say everyone left feeling better than what they felt when they arrived. ✊🏾🔥🌑 #byejohn

• Selfish • ••••••••••••••••••••••• I feel like the idea of being selfless is just conscious selfishness... ••••••••••••••••••••••• That selflessness doesn’t really exist because if you remove self from any service who’s doing the act? ••••••••••••••••••••••• I used to be caught up with the whole idea of being “selfless” that I’d burn myself out or beat myself up for wanting to do something for myself instead of others. I ended up being no good to anybody cuz I didn’t think of myself first. I was empty. •••••••••••••••••••••• Today, I’m selfish. If I’m not right outside and within, I can’t help anyone. And it’s not that I don’t care. It’s that I care enough about you that if I know I cannot help at the moment, I’m going to take care me first and share that energy with whomever or whatever is attracting it. ••••••••••••••••••••••• Love yourself. Then everything else. #ByeJohn

#WCW continuing what I started last week, I wanted to use this day/hashtag to bring more awareness to #sexualassault and how it effects so many women we are close to. ••••••••••••••••••••••• It was extremely hard to listen to my mom, my grandmother, the women I have/had sex with explain to me that men that were close to them. Family members would use their power to sexually abuse them. ••••••••••••••••••••••• I want us to continue to champion women with an abundance of love and light because we really don’t know what they are going through or what demons they are facing behind those smiles we love. ••••••••••••••••••••••• If you are a victim of sexual abuse and would like to have your portrait taken by me to share, contact me.
